  • Island students attend classes from September to June. The average school day is 7 hours with breaks for lunch, play and socializing. Schools are organized into levels for different age groups, beginning with kindergarten for children who are five years old, elementary school for grades 1-6, junior high school for grades 7-9 and finally high school for grades 10-12. There are alternatives to the public system. Options for private schools or home schooling are also available. Every child under the age of 16 must go to school in PEI. There are great schools located across Prince Edward Island. All schools on PEI are publicly funded and available to all eligible children equally. Where your child will go to school is based on where you live and whether you choose an English school, a French school, or an English school that offers French Immersion. You can find your child's school by looking up your civic address online with the Civic Address Locator (www.gov.pe.ca/civicaddress/loc....
