I lived here my whole life, you are right about everything, it is beautiful and charming, you were spot on about the taxi service too, it is exactly how you described it "not good".
Charlottetown is wonderful and I live in this fantastic little city! There are many privately owned restaurants besides the MHG restaurants who also own the Great George! Slay maker and Nichol, The Pilot House, Receiver!, Casa Mia! Sea Rocket, Cedar’s and on and on! Glad you loved it. It rocks in mid summer!

Alina, with the population that Canada has, it might be "impractical", but Charlottetown is about what ever Canadian city should be. Apparently, that province wants to preserve its best, not "redevelop" things and drive up costs to unaffordability.
Charlottetown's vacancy rate is dangerously low and housing costs are unattainable. There is a lot of homelessness and drug problems including fentanyl. Crime is going up too. What the tourists see is the shiny facade of the city. Charlottetown has the same problems as every other city.
So glad you enjoyed my beautiful province! couple things that you may want to know for your next trip here. First Cows Ice Cream is fantastic but my favourite is actually Holman's. It's a small family run business in Summerside where the ice cream is homemade. If you don't make it out to Summerside they often set up at the farmers market in Charlottetown on Saturdays. The other is that's there's actually a uber like alternative here that's locally owned and operated called Kari that's also expanding into New Brunswick so hopefully that helps with your taxi issue next time you come.
That is so true. When I landed in Ontario, I was disappointed with Canada so much that I wanted to leave immediately. Then, when I was exploring the GTA more and more, it was getting even worse. That is, until I moved to Charlottetown having literally 0 expectations after what I’ve seen before. You can’t imagine how shocked I was with how outstandingly cute and cool this town is! It reminds me of Norway, but is even brighter and friendlier. Please preserve your town and your culture forever! Actually liveable places in Canada are very rare, as it turned out.
This video makes me regret my decision of not visiting Charlottetown this summer! Definitely have to visit next year. Truly the most insightful video about this part of Canada 🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed your visit in town (as Islanders call it). I hope you got outside of town and went to explore the coastline and some of the beaches. That is what is truly special about the Island - you're never 20 mins from the ocean. And next time you visit - get in touch! I'm a Realtor with Exit Realty PEI and am happy to give you some tips of where to go.
I must commend you on this video. You researched your information well and articulated it beautifully--most videos on PEI are superficial and full of inaccuracies. A note on the well kept properties of PEI: some think that the only reason people take such care is because they are afraid they might end up on Compass, our local CBC production, or have their names published in our daily newspaper. My own theory is that there are thousands of men who, like myself, grew up on small farms and mow a large lawn just to justify owning a tractor. Keep up the good work!
Your taste and selection is nice to go through.., your sweater colour is beautiful as well

thank you for creating Such a great video truly awesome very well said.... I grew up about 45 minutes from Charlottetown where my grandparents lived and you really presented an honest great take of your experience there and it brings back so many great memories as I live in Ontario now thank you for the video and the great memories very well done 👍😎😎
It's like a small get-together with friends versus a party that gets out of control. That's my analogy for small towns (40k) versus huge cities. They're both fun in their own way.
Always love a trip to Charlottetown -- best small city in Canada. Have seen lots of shows at the Confederation Theatre -- Anne of Green Gables, the Musical -- at least 4 times. Years ago, my two daughters and I did the whole Anne of Green Gables pilgrimage round the the island as well.
Charlottetown resident here, the only thing you missed is the very vibrant musical options that we have here. You can hear amazing live music practically every night of the week at various pubs, theatres and other musical venues. Plus we have lots of festivals all year round, which includes more music. 🎶 ❤🎶
Charlottetown seems delightful. I adore the stunning architecture featured in the video. I live in Washington, DC and have only been to Toronto. It was fun to visit this lovely place vicariously.
Been 4 times to Toronto, a couple of times to Vancouver, zero times to PEI. I think now I'd trade any of those visits for one to PEI. Of so many places I've seen on video, it really seems most perfect.
Love your videos of this area, Alina! My husband, sister and I are planning to go to Nova Scotia, PEI and St John! I love all your recommendations and cannot wait to see this beautiful area!!! Your videos are absolutely wonderful! Keep up the good work!
Happy Thursday Alina! Thank you for sharing this video and I love Italian food. If I ever get the opportunity to visit Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, I would visit for sure. Sending love from Miami, Florida, United States

Well as a coincidence I bought today a book of orations. The very first speech in this book from 1906 - is John Macdonald's "On Canadian Confederation" !!! What a lovely coincidence - thanks always for wonderful video
Incredibly beautiful city!Charlottetown is really a surprise for me, as I didn't know it. What a pity that it is considered an underrated city! Thank you Alina for another awesome video.
@@AlinaMcleod I've been to the Maritimes, Toronto, and Vancouver. Sorry to say, my Maritimes memories are best. I was on a family excurson including my mother who insisted on being there because we went through New England on the way.

My degree will be completed in December and i wish to immigrate in 2025 to only canada (no other country)... Brief me please madam....❤❤
I wouldn’t say it’s underrated. Only that it’s the smallest provincial capital but it’s known to be quite a pretty city. As a place to live it may not be the best as not much goes on in the winter and before May but actually May and June and September or October are great on the island. If you don’t care to swim on the beach the beaches are walkable in those months and there are less tourists everywhere and hotels are much more pleasant than late June to early Sep when it is more a tourist trap
It is like a butterfly , may be small but beautiful, small is always beautiful. You did a tremendous job finding this. I am from India currently in Canada , I wish I could go and visit this but unfortunately I am going back to India. Have a great time.

Visited Charlottetown twice. Relaxing, beautiful city. Stayed at the Holman Grand. Nice hotel and if you like books visit the Bookman on Queen St. Great little bookstore! PEI is a perfect province for a relaxing vacation.
Very beautiful presentation of PEI. I was there wanted to drive the long Confederației bridge and I stayed în Charlotte town at Best Western hotel. I went to PEI also because while în Montreal I always eated oysters from PEI . Thus, I said to myself why not to go to PEI and eat fresh oysters ? But the big surprize was that in Charlotte Town there were not a lot of oysters like în Montreal. Even difficult to find. It seems that PEI is exporting almost all oysters. But PEI is indeed nice, with good roads and only a few people in large space offering a sensation of true liberty.
Charlottetown looks amazing, but I can tell that Alina is at least 35 years younger than the next youngest person in that town. 🤣🤣 Those Charlottetown's citizens saw the Titanic being built, it looks like. But on a more serious note, that hotel looked really cozy! I'll celebrate my 119th birthday there. Sorry guys I couldn't help myself this time. The food seemed delicious and inviting too. Thanks Alina for the video.
@@AlinaMcleod Missed my chance in the 80ls. But I did get to see New Brunswick and about half of Nova Scotia. Totally worth it. By the way, when WE were in the northeast, the lobsters, they said, were "molting". No lobsters!
In a perfect world, the taxi companies and car rental places would have more taxis & cars available for when we get over a million people visit within a 4 month period, but is it practical? As an Islander, I can tell you that the taxi service goes way down hill during the summer because we have literally hundreds and hundreds of tourists every day - especially when the cruise ships come in - using the taxis for day-long excursions. The drivers can make more money driving tourists around the island rather than waiting for someone who wants to go several blocks. I don't blame them. It's the same with the car rentals. Hey there, I’m from the island. 1 bedroom apartments are 1200-1600 nothing included. Have to register the vehicle every year and pay for it. Cost money to leave the island. It use to be the best place ever. I had the best childhood here.
