I wish most of the complaints weren't of the "comparing it to the original" variety. It's a re-interpretation for a reason.
I loved it. It's a perfect reimagining. It doesn't try to copy the original and it is its own thing while staying faithful with the cenobites and such. Loved all the cenobites. Loved that they used a lot of practical effects. This may be my 2nd fav hellraiser behind the original

This is the most entertaining review for Hellraiser so far hahah. I personally loved it. Definitely not perfect, but I wouldn't mind adding it to my collection.
New pinhead is like a calmer version of DBZ frieza. Sinister. Calmly menacing, obvious double meaning in each promise. The cenobites obviously beleive that what they do is liberation the flesh and not an evil act.
When the lead chic decided that she wanted nothing more to do with the cenobites and their promise for her to rejoin her brother, hell priest legit told her that she chose the path of the worst type of suffering, the one where she would have to face her consequences in life, the lament configuration.
One of these, guys in the video clearly remembers the original films with rose tinted glasses. In the first two films the cenobites were hardly the focal point of the films or hardly what one would consider fleshed out. Chaterrer was never second in command. Butterball just stood there. Female cenobite bearly ever spoke.
Bradley had a theatrical presence about him. That was Bradley. The objective was not to do what he did. Hell priest in the hell bound heart is literally closer to this 2022 depiction than anything ever displayed on screen and therefore it's arguable what's cannon and what's not.
Canon in hellraiser has never been set in stone from book to film to comic. If I recall Even the elements of the scarlet gospels contradict the original literature. Could be wrong. Read a long time ago.
Imo film had its weaknesses but would not nitpick and compare to anything that has been done before. Overall was quite a good entertainment.
Halloween Never Ends!
Great stuff guys, halloween never ends! I thought this was my favorite hellraiser. I've seen a few and none were that good to me but this one came the closest to what I wanted from this franchise so I'm hoping this gets a sequel with the same hell priest actress.
I thought this movie was fucking dope! Cenobites can be sacrifices, the lore expansion, I thought the lead was good, the juxtaposition of pain/pleasure and the box and addiction was all mostly well executed. Loved the morphing wall effect, atmosphere, the opening was slick, I thought this was better than H-18 and Kills(talk about terrible writing and cringe acting). Great as always guys.
The cenobites were amazing! The new designs were the best part. A lot of the gore made my skin crawl! I'd give it a 6.5!

Hellraiser was fine. The lack of gore and the ending bothered me at first, but when I thought about it it made sense to me, especially considering the previous lore of Hellraiser. I especially loved the change to the BAWX.

In the original Hellraiser, Kristy was about to bargain her life for Franks...soooooooooo.
In the same way, Riley was going to stop feeding the box, so The Priest forced her to bargain her life.
So that part of your complaint doesn't hold up to me.
pause 23:14!!!!!!!!!! Pinhead was never the bad guy until 3. In the first 2 he wasn't evil he was the priest of hell so if you connected to hell you were taken. He was doing evil things, but it was always because of the people that put themselves in these situations Pinhead was basically just doing his job and in the first one he is even a good guy trying to undo what Frank started and punish him for it.
I wish we saw more gore and kills instead of so much talking between characters, plus this movie had bad lighting on some scenes for me
Pinhead needed to be established as a dominant force here, and she wasn’t. Instead, she was legit negotiating and letting people survive. This movie should have started with Pinhead being the only cenobite. As she picks off these flawed characters one by one, she morphs them all into the new crew of cenobites to work with her. Pinhead needed the W here and I don’t think that happened at all.
I agree with both of you guys. It had good and bad points but overall wasn't a bad film. I'm hoping to see more at least and just thankful we're getting a comeback this year with some classic horror icons!

My dad died a few weeks ago and I’ve had a tough time with horror lately. I was kinda scared to watch this because of my mental health of late. Fortunately AND unfortunately it was not good enough to give me any intense feelings. I agree with Jay in pretty much all of it. Glad we got it though
Am I the only one that thought that the movie was extremely dark and the sound was mixed very low? I’m not sure if it was my TV or if other people are noticing it too
It seems to me like more and more movies have their audio and sound effects mixed way too low anymore. Both this and the batman i had to turn my tv almost all the way to up to hear and then another sound effect hits thats too loud then its right back to being way too soft.
I would give it a 7 but because of the leviathan scene visual look I’d give it a 8
Why did Doug Bradley say "Trick us again, child, and your suffering will be legendary, even in hell"? Kirsty, AFTER OPENING THE BOX, game them an option. The priest was intrigued with druggy girl and saw an opportunity to exploit her yearning for her brother. That's why she was given a choice. I'm not gonna bash your opinions, as they're yours and, as such, valid. I LOVED Jamie as the priest and the movie as a whole. I just separated the two timelines, no comparisons, no side-by-sides. Also, I was really into the source material. I also enjoyed Judgment, good flick! #JusticeForChatterer

I do wanna say something about the design that some people say it’s too clean. In my opinion, the style fits the tone of the world. It’s more Modern instead of watery and gluey type of old gore. The old design fits with the old technology and stander for gore back in the day. But nowadays film cameras have improved so much, the gore would look too cheesy if they chose the classic style of design for the look and gore. Also, if they chose the old style of design and gore, you would still hear people complaining about not much of new idea goes into the reimagining version. No creative choice can please everyone. However, I do appreciate they gave us a new look with a more modern design and style. It’s refresh and still gory as f*ck. They feel they were once humans instead of born as cenobites. The design team use skin to replace a suit make the design look more realistic, gory and painful. I think it’s a good change in many ways, but using “boring” to describe is quite an understatement in my opinion. Btw, English is not my first language. I probably have many errors in my writing.
While I enjoyed Judgement, we have been so disappointed with Hellraiser sequels that when one shows just a little promise we're hyped. I do like how this focus is on the cenobites finally. Make a proper trilogy that wraps up a decent story and I'll be incredibly happy.
I enjoyed it, but watching it right after coming home from Terrifier 2 in theaters, it felt remarkably tame. I dug the Cenobite designs and Jamie Clayton as Pinhead (she was fantastic), but agree that it felt too clean. Even the Cenobites looked rubbery and dry. The mythology was also intriguing, and I wish they'd expanded on it some more, but the main protagonists were largely forgettable.
Inferno has always been my favorite one actually. I'd love to see another sequel similar to that one.
I liked it. Some of the rules seemed inconsistent but that's pretty much all hellraiser films. It was a solid 7 out of 10
I thought the movie was average. The problem is, there have been over 25 years of terrible Hellraiser movies, and anything slightly better than doggy doo doo is regarded as amazing in that franchise. It is getting far too much praise for what it was though.

I like it and I love the new pinhead as a female. It was perfect in todays time. Y’all getting way too deep and critical about it fam. All I wanted was more gore.

The new "Hellraiser" "sucked" !? What a shock !
The movie was ok. Not horrible just average to me. Didn't like the lead at first but she kinda grew on me by the end. The actress that played pinhead was fine I guess but not intimidating at all. I'll give it a 6. Glad I watched it but probably won't watch it again.

Personally, I loved it and would love to see a new continuation with Jamie Clayton... Well, as long as they're done like this and not like the previous sequels

I have to say the film had its problems but I strongly disagree on Jamie Clayton not having presence or the delivery that's expected with pinhead, she was literally ripped straight from The Hellbound Heart, Doug Bradley's portrayal although iconic wasn't as accurate to the book at all, (I love his performance also btw). in the book The Hell Priest is seductive, not really a "general on the battlefield" more a demonic yet angelic figure that offers those who open the box an experience which is beyond any human threshold ,enjoying the review though as always! , interesting to hear different takes in the same review

It’s not that bad, yes I would have put Vogt as the main character and the actor did a great job even though he did not have much screen time. I agree I was not a fan of the main character.

It was good, effects were great all round be practical and cgi. It was too long and a bit boring at times, needed more in your face excitement. I did like the expansion on the lore.
All round though, I want a sequel to this.
The only part I hated was the way they treated Chatterer in the movie that is about it.

I thought the movie was alright. Definitely not terrible but wasnt anything worth writing home about. Probably going to stick to just watching the original when i want my hellraiser fix as to me this doesn't merit a second viewing.
What I didn't like was how In the Last act it turned into a monster movie where they are running from the monsters and trapped in the scary mansion. There's other complaints...but that's the most glaring
I thought the movie was decent, but I might be the only one that missed the black leather s&m suits!

It was better than it should have been and yet not as good as i was expecting. The designs for the cenobites looked a bit too plastic to me. I enjoyed the score a lot and the emphasis on the lore. I didn’t feel ANY sadomasochism vibe in the film which is disappointing.
Also, the Hell Priest just felt like the female Cenobite from the original without Pinhead. They even have a similar voice. I don’t think they did enough to make her intimidating, and even though i liked her overall design, the makeup is so thick that her face is covered and you can’t see any emotion from the actress. Seeing a human face show no emotion is scarier than having facial features covered up to show no emotion by design.
What I hope we get a Hellraiser stream
It was just ok for me. A bit slow for sure. I guess we have to remember that it is a re imagining and not a re make. Good for what it was and had good things about it but overall it was just ok.

I thought this was just average you. I wouldn’t tell anyone to NOT watch it, but I wouldn’t encourage anyone to watch it. I couldn’t agree more about Pinhead not having any presence. I also didn’t care for the voice modulation. I would have rather just heard her voice, and I did miss the British accent! I also thought the cenobites were too clean, and because of that, they looked like they were wearing elaborate costumes. I didn’t feel flesh was really torn up create them. I also hated Riley. I did like Matt and Colin. Nora wasn’t seen enough to really care about but I felt for her. And it was way too long. At the hour mark, I started checking time!
I’m a huge fan of the first 4 and enjoyed the ones with the bad cops - Inferno and Hellseeker. I would rank all of those before this one, but that’s JMO. Maybe I was too hyped given all the rave reviews.

It wasn't perfect, but it's the best Hellraiser movie that we've gotten in a long time. Loved the cenobites in this one, they were the best part. They all were great.
Hot take:
After seeing the original a few months back, I'd say the reboot is better than the original.
I liked it a lot. Out of the extreme crap we got out of this series, this is a "masterpiece" when compared to some of the s.h.i.t we got. Pinhead was great. The main lead was extremely realistic to me, as I knew somebody in life like that.
I loved it but the first half was definitely slower and I think the film would benefit from cutting 25-35 min from it. I do wish it was a bit nastier but overall I really enjoyed it. Best we’ve had had since the original imo.
Well, I think it’s the third or fourth best Hellraiser. Take that for what it’s worth.
Welp, now that that is out of the way, im looking forward to the HBO series. It cant be worse. As you said, Pinhead just wasnt scary or intimidating in any way. If Ian MacDermid can still play Palpatine, Doug can still be Pinhead. Somebody needs to make that happen. The best thing they could have done, was to just make a new lead Cenobite, and not try to replace Pinhead. It just didnt work. Plus, i think they looked to "futuristic" and not nearly dark and intimidating as the originals. It was meh. Maybe 6/10.
Definitely the best since the original trilogy imo. A little slow in the first half and could've used some more gore but production value was great. Jamie Clayton is a fantastic PInhead, hope she stays with the role and I hope to see her in more stuff too.

Great aesthetic and effects, cenobite design superb, pacing slow and too much emphasis on human story. More cenobite focus next time please, even better would be more Leviathan involvement. Just my take.
This plot was TERRIBLE. Besides improving the The design of the box, it brought nothing to the table.

Watched it after the stream last night and its the only Hellraiser I liked... sorry J but this franchise is rough
Plus there was no hellraising.... no escapees resurrected.
Didn't care for this updated/reboot Hellraiser. Primarily due to the annoying main lead drug addict chick that fucks up all lives around and involved with her. Nowhere near interesting as the original movie's lead. In fact, got into an hour of this one as best as I could, paused it and never returned back to finish it. Instead, popped in my dvd copy of the original one. Now...there's a good, highly entertaining movie. A lot of the times, best to leave well enough alone.

I agree with jay. the main chick was a piece of garbage, and they want you to feel bad for her. I did not like her at all. and the fact that you can make trades and in the original pinhead wasn't phycological everybody could always see him and what he was doing. I do love that they went to the labyrinth, and we saw leviathan. I like it more than most sequels but nowhere close to the original 2.

I just finished watching it. I did not like it. This film was way overhyped IMO.
I thought it was great other than the main character - DAMN she was unlikable as hell imo, I just wanted her to go away. The whole "broke female" trope in movies needs to go away to be honest, it sucks already. She basically got everybody except her brother's boyfriend killed and only when she finally got it through her thick damn skull that they were screwed, THEN she suddenly wanted to leave. I loved Jamie Clayton in this - didn't know she used to be a man - but anybody having a problem with Pinhead being feminine obviously never read the novella because that is how the Hell Priest is described as looking - Doug Bradley only got the role because of his friendship with Barker. Definitely could have been used a little better but I thought Jamie Clayton KILLED IT as Pinhead. The look was great, glad they got rid of the creepy and rather ridiculous S&M leather outfits. I thought the cenobites outfits being made from their own flesh was pretty sick. I liked the story - I just wish they would have written a slightly more likable main character and possibly even cast another actress, that chick just did not do it for me, her whole look and her facial expressions just annoyed me every time she was on screen. And her bf - I saw what was happening with that douche-bag from the get go. Overall though, I gave it a 3.5 out of 5. Glad to see you guys are still going strong with the channel too.

Yeah I just watched this one it was pretty bad the characters sucked especially the final girl the plot was extremely predictable and the cinnabites were criminally underutilized. Very mad that they could trade a cinnabite for themselves when they're already fucking in the other world. The worst part is all the changed rules.
I watched this. I was disappointed. The cinobites looked latex. The characters were weak and I didn't care for any of them but the gay brother, and he died first (after Joey, wink to part 3?).
Just not feeling it.

I might be in a small minority here but I rather disliked this film a lot, tried to watch the og hellraiser and thought that was a rather bland movie aswell
