Hey I love your videos!!wanted to chime in on something… I am québécois. And a good amount of my familly have identified with separatism in the past. I think there’s a big distinction to be made that is rarely aknowledged by foreigners between the separatism of the 70-90s and the separatism of today. In the 70-90s the movement was widely anti-imperialist, and was a result of Quebec being severely underdeveloped and exploited by the rest of Anglo-Canada and the Catholic Church . Today it is mostly a (generally) xenophobic «Quebec first movement » which has completely different aims from its previous radical movement. It’s not revolutionary by any means and it’s backed by the rich career politicians on the provincial level. Quebec is a thriving province today, culturally, economically and artistically, mostly because of that what happened in the 80s. I love forteresse, and have been a fan for years but there’s something incredibly bogus about the The interview with Moribund when he mentions First Nations peoples in Quebec. The Canadian « Indians » as he inappropriately calls them, have been victims of centuries of abuse, exploitation and genocide ever since « quebecers » were a thing. These communities are the true victims of anglo-imperialism and are still facing the consequences today. While it’s true that many « white » Quebecois have native blood, make no mistake here…this is still native land we’re on, and it’s hard for me to take their nationalistic stance seriously. How are you going to claim a right To independence when you’ve taken that freedom from other peoples….This is the reason many people in Quebec and Canada (rightfully) consider them a "sketch" band. I am a fan of the band, and I can manage to separate the art from artist, but I think historical context is crucial here when you’re talking about a band that celebrates the history of a land that is still complicit in genocide. Love your videos, I hope this didn’t come off as too preachy but I thought your audience could benefit from a little more context. :)
Not too preachy at all, and we’re glad to have more information and context from someone who’s actually québécois! Context is important and I appreciate you explaining it clearly and providing us some additional context.
It's so cool that you take interest in quebecois bands, and francophone bands in general, it makes me feel proud as a frenchman. Your pronounciations are fine by the way, perfectly understandable, thanks for trying !
"Thèmes Pour La Rébellion" is one album that was heavily recommended to me when I got more & more immersed into Black Metal. I purchased it while I was still in my 1st listening on youtube, I was lucky enough to get it as it was just reprinted a few weeks before that... Still in my personnal Black Metal Top 10 !!
Im waiting for Wyatt's explaining Roman Saenko video, the guy from Hate Forest, Drudkh and many other projects, explaining Drudkh would be a great video too!
Did you hear the album “One Nightmare unto Another” By the band called “Profane Order”. Tracklist: 1. In the Shadows of the Past 2. No Light Here 3. A Sombre Passage 4. Suppression 5. Pernicious Scum 6. Seething 7. Of Bile and Malice Total runtime: 25:20 They are from Montreal and I think you Might Dig that album, it was released in 2023. Your channel kicks ass, keep it up man!
A solid overview of the best Quebecois black metal band by my count. The side project of Matrak, Cantique Lépreux, is excellent as well and Serment from Moribond is superb. I wasn't aware of Sacrenoir so thanks for pointing that out.
I'm from Montréal. Thanks for the discovery, I had no knowledge of that band. Also, I'm thinking Québec is pretty solid in the history of metal: Voivod, Cryptopsy, Gorguts... Something is going on here!
Forteresse is truly one if the greats in black metal. A really raw but epic take on atmospheric black metal. Stand out song writing such great aesthetics. I really love the two variant album covers for Metal noir Quebecois. Both nail down the tough history and pride of Quebec. Also the Moribond's side projects Serment carries that forteresse sound but more synth heavy. Fantastic album
Forteresse is a Great Black Metal Band it’s great to see you give them praise and rightfully so…. I found out about this band from CountBlagoroth i love nearly all if not all the material they’ve released…..
I was lucky enough to pick up the 'Une nuit pour la patrie' cassette demo, limited to 100, at a metal show in NYC. It has 4 tracks on it. I have the Traditionalisme 7" as well. That's all. Just flexing a little.
whats' the song in the back at 20:00 until the end? Awesome video, I think Serment is a very good followup to Forteresse... same atmosphere ! I love it
Wyatt, you could have reached out to one of your Quebecois buddies for any pronunciations, translations of their lyrics or interviews if you were interested. You know we’re not shy to talk for days about metal noir Quebecois
Checked and none of their shit is on Spotify man I think they took it down smh. I don’t mind UA-cam when I’m on my desktop but on my mobile it’s so awkward to listen to with ads as well
I've lived with black metal since the beginning of the 90s here in the forests of Finland, and I also like "nsbm" a lot these days mainly musically and for its own culture, which it presents in its own place. It's not Nazism, it's the worship of one's own place and one's own culture and nature.
@@wyattxhim 🧐 pikku kakara vinkuu, et ollu nääs edes syntyny siihen aikaan.. ja tiedoksi sinnekin, Peikkoja ei ole olemassa, ei edes täällä pohjolassa.
I tend to be really skeptical of "nationalism" as a concept, but Forteresse are for sure not far right. Nationalism in Canada as a whole is more of a left-wing thing, mostly because of anti-americanism. So yeah, they're not sketchy, just a little silly
Just because I haven’t listened to them doesn’t mean I’m not a fan of black metal. Don’t think your knowledge of music is further along than anyone else’s. That’s immature of you. I like your videos and have watched a lot. Be more mindful of people exploring genres on their own pace and enjoy what they like. Because at the end of the day music is subjective there are no yes or no to anything. Get your head out of your “experienced knowledge” but nice try for making me feel not as knowledgeable👍 it won’t work. “Elitist” will not stand for it?? Lol 👎👎
Wasn't Wyatt's introduction clearly a hyperbole to say that he loves the group? It's just a variation of the standard rhetorical form: "if you don't know xyz you need to change this immediately".
@@SeregethRysgil imagine being so ignorant over a band that doesn’t even know you exist. But criticize people for not knowing they exist. Hey look his wife replied. Not him. Interesting. I’m not trying to be rude or anything.

I can’t stop pissing all over the place from drinking all this water on Wyatt’s command
That new Brodequin record 🔥🔥🔥

For me forteresse is the best Canadian and Quebec black metal band. They have an extremely good and consistent discography.
they'd have an aneurysm if you called them Canadian IRL
Great opening statement! Hitting the like button at 0:30. Best bm band!
Good review of a great band from here!! Québec’s back Tabarnak!

Whenever I feel like getting amped the fuck up and charging into battle I put Spectre De La Rebellion’ on. The beginning has never once gotten old.
I remember being a little bored listening to their earlier albums maybe I need to give these a spin again
Themes pour la Rebellion is a good place to start
They're still boring and the idea of NS French Canadians is hilarious. They sound like Texans and their "we'll secede!!"

Butchering the pronouncing of French words is normal for us Anglophones.
Very typical entitled French to expect any of us Anglos care about how to pronounce your peanut butter mouth language
They aren't on Spotify unfortunately
This must be a recent development because they used to be not so long ago. They’re on Bandcamp though

Pretty sure I still got La Mort du Prince Noir on LP

Une nuit pour la patrie
