This has to be one of the best videos on YT showing clearly, how to change brake pads on this car and similar cars in the VAG group. I am going to buy some VW brake grease as a result of watching this video. Do you have the part number for it? Thank you so much.
before I change my brake pads left/behind, should I let it be on the hand brake or free on handbrake? or (N) gear! or it doesn't matter? I have been in the store and they didn't know which brake I needed before they see it! so they asked me to open and bring the brake pads to them so they can see it! I live in Norway! I have Audi a1 11/12.
Hey, yes always best practice to do that if the brake fluid level is already at the max, if you leave it with the cap on, some fluid can still leak out if it’s going to overflow. Best thing to do if the level is high, is to draw some fluid out first. Doesn’t need to be loads to empty the reservoir , just enough to stop it over flowing and causing a mess.
@@GarageTechAutomotive Thank you for the clear answer! And wow, what a fast reply! I'm going to change my discs and pads tomorrow first time. Your video and comment helped me a lot! Thank you for that
Hey Tom, not on this occasion, manufacturer’s recommendation is every 2 years, but there’s no harm in change the brake fluid whilst changing the pads etc. nice to do it all whilst you’re there. I’ve got another video on bleeding brakes if you’re interested.
Hey, it’s a torx T30. I’d use a a socket and ratchet as although there are not that tight, it will be if just using a screw driver, they are only there to hold the disc in a central position. Good luck 👍🏼
Hei, regards from 🇳🇴 nice detailed video. Do you have one on changing the calipers on a Audi A1? also what type of lift did you use, looks like Hyd lift? 👍😂
Hey, for the main carrier so you can gets the discs/rotors off I think it’s a 16mm socket, just going from memory. The caliper bolts are 7mm hex socket or Allan key.
Came here to see about that pad sensor delete. Wasn't disappointed. Thank you, a very helpful video. 👌❤

Hello to change discs do you need to remove the carrier attached to the hub cheers
Hi, yes you do, there’s two large bolts on the back, remove these two and the small screw which holds the disc to the hub 👍🏼
Hello, did you say 7mm hex bit for removing the slide pins ?
@@davidwalker4800 correct 👍🏼
Thanks I’ve seen various videos on this and can’t seam to find correct bit another video says a T45 hex bit
@@davidwalker4800 all VW group cars are 7mm hex, a 45trox may work but last thing you want to do is round out one of the slider pins
Ok mate I’ll give it a try thanks
Hey mate great video keep it up! Did you bleed the system for the pad change?

Tysm! I managed to do one side but forgot to grease the caliper pins😅, gonna take the pins apart and do it tomorrow
I just bought some bosche pads but all four have the retaining bracket that sits in the pot. Am i able to still use them for the outside?
@@_wimza_7983 some setups have the clips on the inside and outside pads, but I would say they are the wrong pads for your car.

Do the 2013 A1’s have a directional wind back?
What size and tool do i need for the carrier bolts?
