Best yellowbelly fishing session at Lake Nillahcootie yet this spring

  • This was the most intense yellowbelly fishing session at Lake Nillahcootie so far this spring. We caught more than I did when I was fishing off the bank a couple of weeks ago.
    The downside was that there was a real absence of size though. A couple of yellowbelly may have been legal, but only just, and the rest were all undersize. We threw them all back. We were after the big fish that never turned up.
    Dad did catch a Murray cod early in the session on a bunch of worms when I was getting set up and was not filming.
    What an amazing and eventful evening of yellowbelly fishing at Lake Nillahcootie this really was.
    The stand out lure for the evening was the Pontoon21 Beta Vib (61mm).
    Here is a link to the Pontoon21 Beta Vib that I was using. Use the DISCOUNT CODE ROBBIE10 to get 10% off at the checkout.

    Ol mate in the background boat may as well be fishing from the shore. Bit of rain and things do get murky water. in Nillicootie (albeit I have never been there) We've had numerous hail storms across the past few days up here in SE Qld and bucketloads of rain. The dams and rivers will be filling fast. Thanks for taking the time and posting. Regards Pete.

      You can't access the shore from that particular spot so a boat is needed to get there.
      Strangely enough, people fishing from the shore are catching just as many fish as those fishing from boats anyway.

      @CalaisRider 3 роки тому

      Yeh Robbie as usual I wasn't havin a go, just an obsevation ol mate. I often think it strange, when your bank fishing you want to cast to New Zealand, When your in a boat you cast as close as possible to the shore LOL. I've been guilty of it myself on many occasions (so I'm actually laughing at myself) but is a weird human nature response as far as I can tell. To make it simpler, "the grass is always greener on the other side". Having been a roustabout on a big sheep and cattle stations ages ago I can still see the cattle and sheep always pushing their heads through the fence to get what they obviously thought was better pickings LOL. @@johnskelly2542 First mistake, it is not illegal to release them in the ACT and NSW. Second mistake, there is no good reason to arbitrarily kill any animal, but especially carp. Most of what you know, is completely false. 1/ They do not muddy rivers, cause algae blooms or in any other way negatively impact water quality. In fact, in medieval times, they were stocked into moats to prvent stagnation and to provide the castle with food. Which leads us to 2/ The are not inedible and are the most widely farmed animal in the world for food. 3/ They do not force out natives, poor water quality, lack of structure and habitat and low oxygen does that. None of those things are related to carp. However, they can survive in the manky sludge we call waterways, whre our natives cannot, thus Old Mate who used to catch cod but now catches carp, assumes they forced out the natives, when in fact, the area is just simply not habitable for natives? So, what does muddy the water, lack of roots from the non-existent riparian vegetation allows the water to scour out the banks, and they collapse, at which point the carp move in to feed on the worms and other food items in the new smorgasboard. They are there, they must have caused it. right?
      There is no good reason, if you have one, please present it to me. I have thought long and hard about this over 30 years. I used to ill them, until I thought about it logically. Sadly, no-one else seems to do this simple thing. Our carp are montsers, while in the rest of the world they swim with the other fish in clean water and are eaten. What BS. Fact is, there were no natives when Carp were introduced large scale, the carp we have are only a recent hybridisation, from Bolara, Victoria. Thus they are an Australian strain of the fish, found nowhere else. They had free rein in the rivers from the 60s when they were released, until the 80s when some breakthroughs at Wagga and Albury breeding facilities led to large scale breeding and releases of our natives. For 20 years, the carp spread like wildfire, because there was no competition. Now, however, there are very big cod and yellowbelly. How did they get so big? Eating carp and redfin, which are the only 2 self replenishing sources of fodder fish in our lakes and rivers these days. So, remove the carp, have a stunt fishery of starving natives that are eating the restocks, as there is nothing else for them. And then there are the birds. A pelican who has no carp to eat is eating reasonable sized cod instead.
      Anyway, enough said. Like I say, I have presented a few reasons that they are not the problem people say they are, please, refute anything if you have factual evidence to back you, and please, tell me the GOOD reason, just one, to kill these wonderful fish WE introduced to our artificial habitat.
