- Hi everyone! Here is a little tutorial on how to make a foundation double crochet. It is a really good way to start your work as it has a lot of stretch to it and it is much more accurate when working with made to measure patterns. It is also a fantastic way to start off a blanket and will prevent your blanket from curving.

When I saw craft and cuppa, I knew I had to click on! From US but my precious Lil Muma was from London, The East End, "Up Chapel Market" She was taught to crochet by the Nuns in the Air Raid shelters during WW2 as a young girl. She lived in America 65+ years and never lost her Cockney accent. She was phenomenal crocheter. Love love love your channel, you're a great teacher!
That's amazing!! Did she develop a mixed accent? My Uncle moved to Canada when he was 16 and lived there 60+ years. He ended up with a Canadian/British Norfolk twang 😆❤️
Thank you. You just taught an 83 year old how to do a foundation double crochet. Hello from Tempe, Arizona.
You are so welcome!
Hi Kelly, just wanted to say how much I love this. I think I'll be using this for future projects. It's perfect for short waisted tops and it's so neat and tidy as a hem line. Thank you yet again for making your instructions so user friendly and keep those new ideas coming. Love your work. Xx
Aww thank you so much 🥰❤️
Oh my god. I did it. In me do it. Wooohoo. Thanks for the tutorial! I finally got it and it's so much better than a chain and work into it. First I thought it'd take so much longer. But tbh... Once I have to chain and then work in over 20 stitches I always hate how wobbly it gets. Also the feeling of oh no... I don't have not enough chains to crochet into even after counting five times to make sure and having to unravel everything which makes me not want to start again. This solves that. Haha. Thanks so much.
Yay that's amazing news! Once you get the hang of it more, it does get quicker as well! Very well done! 🎉🥳❤️
@@CraftandaCuppa thank you for the encouragement! 🤗 I had one hangup in the fourth fdc and then went on with the rest of my 110 fdc without any more problems. So cool. Feels so much more relaxing to do for me.Ð Currently on row four of your Odds and Ends jumper which I needed the fdc for. My neurospicy brain is a fan of your way of talking, explaining and showing things. So happy! 🥳🎉 Okay now I'll stop gushing haha. Have a lovely evening.
@FrolleinMiez that's great too hear as I struggle so bad with public speaking 🙈 My words come out wrong or in the wrong order or I go completely blank and forget which word I'm trying to say! I hope I don't annoy people with my errors so it's great to hear good feedback 😆
Thank you so much. You are delightful! I love how you “crack on” and show us how things are done! I really appreciate your tutorials. Now I off to start the Odds and Ends Sweater (or jumper as we call them here in Australia!) Cheers 😊
Ahh amazing! Yes we actually call them jumpers too but I've been "training" myself to say sweater as I know jumper often means a playsuit in other countries 😆
I'm about to make your pick and mix and almost opted out of learning this stitch. I'm so glad I slowed down and took the time to learn. This is cool! Fyi: I did it with black yarn! 🤣😬
Yikes well done for that!! Yes it can be fiddly at first but once you get the hang of it, it's like riding a bike. It's a fantastic method for garments as it's super stretchy 🥰
OMG, at first i couldnt get it at all but then i listened to your voice over and over and hey presto i have grasped it, not very neat but yayyyyyuu. Thankyou soooo much
@@lunastitch333 that's amazing! Don't even worry about it being neat, mine is always a wonky mess but by the time I've added more rows on top of it I don't even notice 😆
That's good to know, your tutorials are amazing and it's also nice that you actually respond to people's comments as alot do not ❤😊
@@lunastitch333 aw thank you! Yes I try my best to respond to everyone 🥰❤️
@@CraftandaCuppa You were sooo right I'm on 3rd row of trebles and it's looking amazing, can't wait to see how it turns out, I have never made anything like this before. Thanks again.
You made me laugh! Thank you for your happy tutorial.
😆😆 You're welcome!
Thanks so much Kelly, love your explanation xx

Hi!! You are very welcome! I hope you enjoy the videos 🙂
I now know how to do a foundation double crochet. thank you. 😊
Ah amazing! You are very welcome!
Am so glad I subscribed a few days ago! Have been looking for new things/ideas to try, and you have truly helped in that department. Am going to try your hexagon cardie before this....have not seen either before. There goes my summer since I may end up not working in the garden now...😊
Amazing! Well you could take your crochet outside in the garden and put your feet up! 👍🏻😆
@@CraftandaCuppa All mud here-would drive me batty if I got some on my started cardie!! Wonderful vids-thank you for the tutorial. Very well done!
Love this - I’ve watched your foundation single crochet video too - if I was to do a foundation hdc, would you suggest doing a chain 2 or chain 3 right at the beginning?
Possibly a ch2 but I would do a few stitches and see how it sits 😀
That is such a cool trick😊
Thank you ❤️
Thanks xxx
You're welcome!
Can you also make a foundation single crochet?
Yes I can totally do that ❤️
TY
Your welcome 🤗
If you hold your hook vertically and have your work coming off the side (like a flag on a post) You can work in the top as it is the bottom of your row. the yarn tail from the start will be at the top.
1st attempt - failed miserably!
Keep practising! You will get it! ♥️
My wool was very dark, I’ll try a lighter colour. I’m starting your latest odds and ends sweater, so I need to keep trying!
