I did not know this 'trick' ... thank you so much for sharing. BRILLIANT cant wait to get going ... and use up all those bitz and bobz that I have saved for years and years.
You yarn goddess, you! I tried to learn the Russian join before and could not get it, but this is magic! I am now rolling right along, making my scrap yarn ball and I am having fun making these knots. Once you get it, this is a breeze to do. Yay! Thanks for sharing.
Magic balls for use in lapghans, Langwarms or even little Ugly Sweaters for Christmas decorations. Very good . I use light and then dark, light and then dark.
WOW … well that was fun to watch!!! GREAT explanation! I’ll have to try that one!!! Tanx!!!🎉 … but you need a cone ball winder to wind all that new yarn!!!
Enjoyed your video. Wish I'd seen it before I started a scrap ball of yarn. Your knotting technique was interesting. I had a bunch of scrap yarn and I was bored the other night, so I started knotting all the pieces of yarn together with just a square knot. I've been leaving the ends on thinking it might give it a very nubby look. If I don't like them, then I'll cut them off as I go along. My ball of yarn is currently 4" in diameter. It is all different colors and I actually enjoyed the process! I have a long way to go if I ever want to make a blanket out of them, but I'm patient. 😺
Lovely! I do this with the ends I cut off after I end a project, as well as my little balls of scrap yarn. I cut my ends to about 4-5 inches, allowing me to do this :)
I do something similar, but do it a bit different, called a magic knot.I too use up my scrappy bits to make new balls of wool and have used them to make blankets
I used to use the magic knot too but was never keen on cutting the yarn close to the knot so would leave the ends to weave in and secure them. This one you don't have to do that! 😍🙂
Hi! I was searching for ways to add a cuff and found an older video of yours. I enjoyed it so much that I watched this one and WOW! What a neat way to join scrap yarn together! I will definitely use this. I have subscribed and I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos! Wishing you a great week!
I always get nervous of knots that are so easy, like it blends together so beautifully. What would happen after years of washing and such, do you think the knot would come loose then? I’m super hard on clothes and would hate to have something unravel cuz I’m like a full grown toddler 😂 Please and thank you
I literally yank on it so hard and it's not going anywhere! I use to use the magic knot and weave all of the ends in as well as I was super parotid about cutting close to that knot, but this one is different and much more secure ❤️
I have been doing magic knot too and I never could quite trust the knot to snip the ends down to nothing lol. Too much of a disaster if it comes out! I need to try this knot!
You can do it however you wish! I don't like long lines of one colour so I tend to keep snip longer balls and make them shorter, then add some more of that colour in a bit further into the scrap ball 😊
Okay 👍 Just looking at other videos on scrap blankets, they always seem to make sure that each row is one solid yarn or combo for the entire row. Anyway, scrap is scrap, lol 😂
This is going to change my life - thank you for teaching me this technique!
@@YvetteRobinson-d7w you are very welcome 🤗
Not the Knot! Haha! Thank you for this tutorial. It's much more convenient than the invisible join.

Yes, it has taken me a while to make mine. I've been keeping this yarn and adding to it for over 4 years 🤣
I want to learn how to make the sweater you're wearing in this vid. the Sleeves are amazing!!

I knew youd have a brilliant tutorial on this! I want to give it a try. Have you tried it with a ball winder? I might do that 😊
@@trishbresolin8212 no I haven't made it with a ball winder as I just found it easy to wind it by hand ❤️😊

Yes I cant get on with the magic knot either! This one is brilliant though, just be sure to give it a really good tug to test it out!
Could you use a yarn ball winder after joining each yarn? There must be a way!
Possibly but it's probably easier just to wind by hand 🙂
I use a winder because I get more consistent tension on the wound yarn as opposed to balling up the yarn.
Great tutorial but I’m surprised you don’t use a yarn winder, it is so easy and less time consuming.
@@Donna2177 thank you! It's because it's tiny scraps that I'm adding together so there's no need really, it would probably be more of a hindrance 🥰
I do this with all my odds and sods but I cake it all up with my ball winder😊
That is extremely helpful and saves your hands❤️

I LOVE making balls using all of my leftover yarn - but I heard it called MAGIC YARN, not scrap yarn. It sounds a bit more fun. =^.^=
Yes I've heard them very called magic balls too. I decided to call my scrap ball so everyone was clear on what it was 🙂
Why not start with the biggest scrap ball and go from there instead of starting with the smallest piece of scrap??
You can do it however you wish! I don't like long lines of one colour so I tend to keep snip longer balls and make them shorter, then add some more of that colour in a bit further into the scrap ball 😊
