Well, I’ve been doing it completely wrong. Glad I found this. I always felt like a good guy going around fixing random ball marks but nope, just me fucking up the greens
This is excellent, having someone repair a ball mark properly and describing the healing time of two weeks for the incorrect repair and over night for the correct repair. Well done.
I repair every pitch mark I see every time I play, just wish more people would repair other people’s. I have my pitch mark repair tool on a retractable lanyard on my belt, so no fishing about for it in pockets or losing it, just instantly available ! I once lost 3 pitch mark repair tools in a week lol
hahahahha it sure will be soon :) here is a different persecutive to the video from a Superintendent of a course who shows us how he would do it. ua-cam.com/video/_Dwvkh04Q3Y/v-deo.html
😂 Hahaha in all fairness without bashing myself too much I’ve hit a few recently and although I tried my best I’m worried I made the same mistake as shown in the first part of the video ... a lot more confident now I’m repairing in case it happens again!
Great point! I have a Superintendent of a course who explains how he would do it. Check out the video when you have some time ua-cam.com/video/_Dwvkh04Q3Y/v-deo.html
I remember a poster in the golf shop when I was a kid playing with my Dad. It said something like "It takes less than 24 seconds to properly repair a pitch mark. A properly repaired pitch mark will heal in 24 hours. An improperly repaired pitch mark will heal in 24 days."
This is a really good video. I watch alot of Pro golf tournaments and I am always amazed how many of the pros do it wrong. For years I did it the wrong as well, but when it's explained properly it just makes sense.
Pitch mark repair information should be made clear to all golf club members and prominently displayed for all green fee players to see, it's surprising how many "golfers" don't seem to know how to repair a pitch mark correctly
I rarely make one (obviously from missing the greens 90% of the time) so I get excited when I actually get too use my divot tool. It’s crazy how many dead spots I’ve seen on even on private courses!
@@GatherYeRosebudsWhileYeMay Great point which is why on my Channel I have now made 3 videos specifically on etiquette and covering all kinds of things. This is the latest video on Golf Cart Etiquette and where you should place your golf bag ua-cam.com/video/EuReAcu7oDw/v-deo.html
I used to play golf with a couple of friends. One was a greenskeeper, and one liked to take 15 practice swings complete with divots. It was sometimes a battle keeping one from beating the other.
For some reason the golfers in my area rarely tend to their pitch marks and simply leave them unrepaired. So, when I am playing I repair my marks and one other one near my putting line that was left by someone else. Seems to me to be a good steward of my home course and possibly creates good karma to help me hole more putts. 😇
Really they just jump u in the alley and take ur money? Or do u willingly give it to play the game? I'm gonna walk out on a limb and guess you are just trying to coy... If not you got alot of growing up to do...weekend warriors to pros we all play the game because it's pure man, golf is lessons in life, and I will help you here....fix your divots on the green...dont be like that...if you see someone else that don't fix theirs, fix it for them or show them how....

Now I just need to be able to land a green while creating a ball mark instead of always having to chip on.
Edmund Davis lol same
Sounds like witch craft
I mean you could always fix someone else’s divot. I’m sure there two or five arses that leave a few.
nah, fix them for the lazy or unable to bend over crew, creates good karma!

"The next time you hit a green..." Oh okay, this video isn't for me.
Deadass 😂

I FEEL YOUR PAIN! :)
😂 Hahaha in all fairness without bashing myself too much I’ve hit a few recently and although I tried my best I’m worried I made the same mistake as shown in the first part of the video ... a lot more confident now I’m repairing in case it happens again!
🤣🤣🤣
Great video! Thanks for showing us the right way to do this... I've been doing it wrong for years. Now I know.
Another point to make is this: while you're lifting forward, do not press so hard that you hear roots breaking.
Great point! I have a Superintendent of a course who explains how he would do it. Check out the video when you have some time ua-cam.com/video/_Dwvkh04Q3Y/v-deo.html

I love it! Thanks for sharing this Jim!

Always fix your your pitch mark and for good measure, fix one more. Numbskulls need love too.

So true...
Spot on mate! I was thinking the exact same thing. Also a class on etiquette would be nice as well, some really need it.

Why I came to this video lol not trying to be that guy
That green repair was incredible. I am always amazed at how fast the pros are able to do it. People that don't repair the greens are A holes.
nice one ben, lets get a video scene in the club house to demo all the things you want the members to do. happy to help with creating this work flow
Been taught the right way.
good to know i've been doing it correctly.
Everyone feels relived when they aren´t the ones destroying the course :) ua-cam.com/video/_Dwvkh04Q3Y/v-deo.html
I feel like the only person in the whole club fixing pitch marks. I might make two in a round but I usually repair 40+ in a round.
I’ve been doing this wrong, thanks for the info!
Welp, I'm that first guy. I've never known there was a certain way to fix a ball park. Thanks for the info!
Thanks a lot for this video
Thank you.
I forwarded this to my caddy. She better be doing this right.
Glad I checked this out because I had been doing this incorrectly but not to horrible.
How do you guys feel about the spider style divot tools? Is that a better option than a classic two prong tool?
I used to play golf with a couple of friends. One was a greenskeeper, and one liked to take 15 practice swings complete with divots. It was sometimes a battle keeping one from beating the other.
15 swing guy wouldn't be welcome at some courses. Delaying the game is not the attention you want.
Much simpler than what I did until now.
That is how I was taught. Amazing how many people don't even TRY to repair their mark.
I don't often make these as my thinned 8i approaches the green from 3ft of elevation. But good to know.
I'm just trying to hit the green lol. I'll keep this in mind for the day it finally happens
This is by far the bane of golf. I don’t give a shit about slow play, I care about selfish pricks who don’t repair pitch marks.
so what is worse, having someone do their best but in the end doing it wrong or someone not bothering to even attempt a repair in the first place?
I’m pretty sure no repair leaves it worse

that's a good practice. I'll repair any I see.
I actually have no problem hitting the green. My problem is getting my ball off the green & into that little hole.
Not sure why he poked in the middle of the crate!? I thought just around the mark only.
Gophers?
Correct me if I'm wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the gophers, they're gonna lock me up and throw away the key.
I see pros on TV doing this wrong every weekend. Why dont they start giving out some penalties for golfers killing aspont on the green for 3 weeks?
This is horrifying as someone who apparently has been scarring greens all over the place for years 🤦🤦
Bull man 87 at least 3 weeks
Subtle product placement?
Squatting like that must be awkward and painful
Darren Higgs
You should ALWAYS repair your ball mark and at least one more.
Anyone not like the way he fixed the mark?
People who don’t repair their ball marks are on the same level as those who do not return their shopping carts
There's a special place in hell for golfers who don't fix pitch marks.
My pitch marks on wet days are massive and this technique doesn't work at all
at 00:58, course manager is so dramatic, now it's going to take 3 weeks to recover! oh no now your triple bogey will be a snowman!
Here is another perspective from a Superintendent of a course who might seem a little less dramatic :) ua-cam.com/video/_Dwvkh04Q3Y/v-deo.html
I paid attention more because of the English accent. Don’t lie, you did too
Selfish people who don't even attempt repair of theirs and others deserve to have a hedgehog as their next poo....
it pisses me off that people dont know how to fix ball marks
That wasn’t helpful at all just went at it with literally one piece of information.
Cop a squat tho
It is not on the players to maintain the course. This is why groundskeepers exist.
No it's not.
It's a courtesy to the other players after you
The prices they charge for green fees today, i aint fixing shit
Fuck that. I just find my ball and keep going. Golf courses take too much of my money for me to give a shit
Really they just jump u in the alley and take ur money?
Or do u willingly give it to play the game? I'm gonna walk out on a limb and guess you are just trying to coy...

Damn I’m honestly upset with myself that I’ve been doing it wrong for the past year. Fuck man, I genuinely feel terrible now
It amazes me how many people don’t even bother to fix them.
