John White moves so well for a big man...Saw him play live in Sheffield once, he hits the ball harder than anyone in the game(as far as i know!)

never played squash before, it looks as if they were hitting thin air lol, where did the ball go between 2:36-2:44?

@justinp5960 the reason i prefer squash over racquetball its because squash requires more thinking, more positioning, more on finding space, rather than just hitting the ball with all u got.

  • @justinp5960
    @justinp5960 13 років тому

@XxmcdxX Racquetball involves so much thinking. there are so many different shots to take, and it takes a good player to really know when and where to hit each shot. and racquetball has so much to do with court positioning.

Yup, a great example of Greg playing to win the match - not just the point. Look at the shots he plays ...
    - 1:32: working John back instead of trying the obvious kill to the front left
    - 1:35: again, working the length rather than going for something shorter (especially tiring since Whitey has to fight his momentum which is carrying to him forwards)
You can see how telling Greg thinks the rally has been by his celebration!

These guys must be closer to the center of the galaxy, because time doesn't go that slow when I play

    i like racquetball much more!
its more agressive, even though it would be interesting to play squash :)

  • @philoux

That's because pro player can see where they want to play the ball as soon as the opponent touch the ball with the racquet.
Just look, as soon as the ball touch the racquet, the other player moves to the strike zone.
So, they can move quietly and "slowly" to the strike zone...without stress.
    That's why it's seems so easy ;)
When you play a game the next time, just consider how much time you need to know where you will strike the ball...
    This point is crutial.

David Palmer also has some serious power in his shots, but White has the world record of 172mph for a squash drive.

It is a good rally, dont get me wrong...but you should watch the willstrop vs white video in the 2007 finals at canary wharf ( i think). Theyre proper rallys where both players give it their all!!

@katarie222 but assuming your physically fit, it is strategy! and even if you'r not - you can stratigise to avoid having to move too much!

@XxmcdxX what you just said also applies to racquetball.

Every single stroke, they go to the T. That's how at 1:17 Greg took control. That amazing play totally un-footed White. After that, it seems obvious White felt at the current score he was out-classed and folded. He had a chance later on. Gone are the days of the Khans and Hunt used to play. Well actually, thats how Geoff won so many games. A bit like Glen McGrath with his bowling. It's also why a squash coach keeps drilling the "T", and "down the walls". Willpower n fittness

Mitzula is simply making an observation from his point of view. Of course he's wrong but to call him a moron or to say his comments are stupid (like Ovandal0) makes you look pretty "stupid".
Notice Drew's commets, constructive. Everyone I know who plays this great game is pretty classy, it's a class sport.
We should all do what we can to support London 2012.

It's strikes me as funny to see that even the great players forget where to serve after a long rally. I thought it was only me.

SWEET! 2bad you cant really see the ball though

  • @mitzula

what I don't like in squash is that you can't really build a point or keep an advantage, players are equal in chances to win the point at almost every shot,no strategy. But playing squash just for fun is nice, anyway.

its hard to get john white tired because his reach is so long,he just has to make 1 step, unles the rally goes for a while he'll get tired.

  • @Doggieman1111

heh interesting sport, .. kind of cramped though.. you guys should think about widening the court by 2 feet so you're not always interfering with one another.

This is typical body language from Whitie when he's tired... Long rally into an already grueling match. No frustration.
