    You hit it right on the head: "Brilliant!" My 2018 Sport Glide is amazing, and I can't imagine having anything else. For me, it's been perfect.

    I have had the same experiences with my Sport Glide and am absolutely convinced of this motorcycle.
    Since 1977 I am also a BMW motorcyclist. It wasn't until 2012 that a Harley was added. I had concerns about reliability, but I was pleasantly surprised. As long as you don't "fumble" on the machines unprofessionally, things don't cause trouble.
    So I bought the Sport Glide in 2019 with full conviction and have not regretted it so far.

    My taste in Harleys has changed dramatically from when I first started riding. I used to think slimmed down Sportsters were the only good looking Harleys and now I am so over my Sportster phase and the Sport Glide is exactly everything I'm looking for in styling, convenience and comfort. I love the chrome offset on the black and that fairing is sexy and unique! I would just add a higher windscreen to get some more wind protection for longer rides. That air filter cover is the best looking I've ever seen on a stock Harley and I think I may just machine out some cuts on the sides for more air if I take it up to stage 1. I absolutely refuse to black out the bike and change the appearance of it besides maybe changing to fused lo mini apes in chrome. I'll add heated grips and a chrome flat out bar. That stock seat is one of the best seats I've seen come from a stock Harley. It's beautiful and very comfortable when I sat on it and I wouldn't change it. I don't hate that it has a 107, I actually love the 107. I think if I need more I'll just stage 1 it and that's it. I want smoother as I age and honestly the Sport Glide does everything I'm looking for. I'm hunting for a 2021 with under 1k miles.

    I have 4K on mine now and I agree with everything you’ve said. What a great review. Thank you. The Stage II torque upgrade closed the gap for me on the power difference between 107 and the 114, but a 114 would have been great. Keep up the good work.

    I just very recently purchased a 2021 SG with a little over 1,000 miles and had a lot of extras already added to it. Coming from an iron 883 I am in heaven. It feels like I'm riding on air, it handles like a dream, the power is great, leaning the bike is almost effortless. I could go on and on. I was looking hard at a street glide but am so glad that I went with this bike. Absolutely love it

    This model was really strong contender when I was on the market for new M8. I ended up with Heritage but SportGlide suspension is way better set up for sure I just went for more classic look as I like old school. No doubt these bikes are awesome. Not without flaws but great bikes.

    Have to pretty much agree with all you said R.A. Have owned my Sport Glide for 5.5 months and love Ms. Zwerte Zers now more than the day I rode her home. I have changed the front turn signals / running lights to LED's (well worth the cost), added an engine / crash guard, changed to a 5.5" dark smoke screen (perfect height), changed to a K&N high air flow filter set-up (plus catch can) and added 2" risers to the stock risers (which allowed me to keep the stock top clamp). The additional 2" to the bar height makes a huge different to comfort (I'm 5'.8" tall)
    I find the stock seat fine, no issue with comfort, but would like a bit more back support, but have spent some decent km's in the saddle with no comfort complaints. The bags are excellent and I pretty much just leave them on full time. I was like you and thought I would ride mostly with them off, but the bike handles so well with them on, why take them off. I find the faring with the 5.5" screen is fine and blocks just enough wind for me. Heck it is not a Street Glide or Road Glide, so I am NOT expecting that type of wind blockage, so people need to temper their expectations in that regard, for me the wind protection is a good in-between no protection and a decent amount.
    Bike handles great in the twists or on the highway at 130KM's and cruise control works fantastic.
    In 2021 will look at exhaust and or a saddleman seat, but really the exhaust is fine, its more of a "look" change I want vs. sound. The seat I would change if it added a wee bit more back support.
    I had no plans to get a Harley in fact was not even looking at Harleys as I did not see myself as a HD biker... But I stumbled across the Sport Glide and after much searching and watching many of your videos and others, I was the bike which seemed to check all the boxes for what I wanted in a bike at this stage of my riding life. It is truly a Swiss army knife of bikes.
    Also one other point, the weight / balance ratio of this bike is awesome. I went from a Honda rebel 500 to the Sport Glide, the SG is quite a bit heavier in actual weight, but I can honestly say the bike I so well balanced, you don't even notice the extra weight, in fact pulling up to a stop at a light, it is smoother than the Rebel and easier to handle.

    G’day from Oz and thanks mate. Enjoyed your review and found your videos uncompromising and of great value, thank you. I just took a 2021 Sport Glide for a test for a couple of hours down the Wollongong area last week and was stunned at what a lazy, easy ride it is. It handles so very smoothly up and down Bulli Pass, a great test for any beast, plodded happily at the speed limit down the freeway and seriously, the electronic throttle and electronic cruise control are totally brilliant. Didn’t speed up even 1kmh over the set speed going over the crest and down a long hill and with the amount of cameras here in Aus now, well worth it. I’ve just turned 60 and with a plate in my neck after 4 spinal ops, I think it’s time to say goodbye to my 2015 1299 Ducati Panigale, oh with so many tears because of, damn what an insane bike the Duke is, but 3 hours on this beast and I could have happily just kept riding the rest of the day and into and through the night. Sadly, getting back on the Duke with my beat up old bones for the hours trip back up through the National Park to Sydney, well, the pain almost brought tears to my eyes and decided me in the first few km that a Sport Glide must live under me soon and my beautiful Panigale can go to live with some fearless young fella that will enjoy and appreciate it as much as I do. Now, the only thing to decide, can I really live without the 128ci stage 4 upgrade because as nice as the stage 2 sounds, the stage 4 sounds like a true screaming eagle and I’m only 60, not 90 lol. Again, thanks for the great reviews and your open honesty, it’s much appreciated, thank you. Maybe if you could get a hold of a Stage 4ed beast a review would be neat. Watched an Australian one, only one I could find and he said, oh, yes, go for it!! So ….. Keep the shiny side up, rubber side down brother and keep riding to live and living to ride 😎👍

    Great review.....thanks Alf. Love my Sport Glide. My second HD (first a 48). I'm just gutted that these HD dealerships seem to be closing right left and centre. My local is Bowker Preston (closing at the end of December) and they have been utterly superb over the years. A lot of the wonderful HD experience is tearing into the local dealership on a Saturday am for a brew/butty and catch-up, with like minded mid-life crisis suffers. Importantly, I feel for the HD staff (who become friends). Not changing my bike though, just need to travel further for the admin.

    Maybe too late now, but anyhow, to whom thinking buying this model the sport glide think twice then. The engine is down tuned a bit. It is a 107 engine of course but the power output is slightly lower than a regular 107, hence the lower price. Just worth mentioning it, as most of videos here in UA-cam never mention this information.
    Enjoy what ever bike you have !!

    Couldn’t agree more. Great all round bike. On my sportglide the rear brake seems almost useless other than for stability around corners etc and a dual disc up front would be good, however the single disc works well. I love mine and with some V&H pipes on it always puts a smile on my face

    • @kobyk9681
      @kobyk9681 2 роки тому

      @Matty Cook absolutely! On the other hand, they're two different kinds of bikes, uses and postures..... depends on what kind of a ride you are looking for.....sport glide is more of a laid back cruiser/Dyna that works perfectly well as a tourer as well. Fatbob is more of a upright sit and more of a modern aggressive look. I was looking for a bike with all the modern accessories/extras down to speed/cruise control that could be utilized as a cruiser for everyday city use and also as a tourer with saddle bags etc. ..... at the same time had that 70s/80s Softail look......in fact I have gone long ways to change/added to the look and accessorise it and thrown it back in time....... It barely looks like a sport glide 2018 model.....more of a 70s/80s chilling chopper with the extended front wheel (not too long).....high handle bars, added a little bit of chrome etc.....I couldn't do that with a Fatbob.....sport glide is one of the few HD that affords one to go back in time and customize it that way.....of course, as is, it's still a great ride...and when test rode it back in 2018, I still preferred the feel and it's ride over all the other cruisers..... including Fatbob. You have to decide what kind of a ride you want.....do you go on long rides? If so, sport glide is perfect as a tourer as well.....that is another aspect you have to bear in mind .....there are other issues ...

    • @kobyk9681
      @kobyk9681 2 роки тому

      @Matty Cook My pleasure. Enjoy the process. Don't rush it. Take it beyond Saturday if you have to. If you want a true cruiser ride Sport Glide is the way to go.... it should be the SG since the ergonomics of a SP are more geared towards the kind of rides you are describing. Both operate with forwards controls but with Fatbob you're going to bend forward over the tank which tires one quicker versus SG which tends to lay rider further back .....the seat is actually 2" lower....also the front wheel on SG is raked at 30 degree versus Fatbob which has a 28 degree....making you sit more upright.... ... The SG is more of a stretch posture......if you look at their images, you will see the difference in the sitting. That should tell you which one you are more likely to enjoy more.
      One thing you should not get fooled into......the pride of having a 114 versus a 107 engine......both are very capable.....in fact quite a few of the new touring bikes are 107s. Many people's pride makes them think that they have to have the biggest engine out there......pretty foolish.
      Plenty of power with a 107. In fact the sport aspect of the SG makes the 3-4 horse power difference very minimal...
      For the test ride.....try to stay on the Fatbob for as long as you can.....You will tire quicker due to a sharper bend on the hips

    Wow ! Alf I was about to trawl through all the video reviews on this bike and I now don't need to as your one is so comprehensive. My story is that a few months ago I traded my 1200 GS in for my first ever Harley a Pan America Special. Now I am not about to slag it off as I know many like it,. and interestingly enough you mention about first production bikes having issues .as much as I tried to like it it just didn't float my boat as I missed the low down torque of a GS and its character so what to do !. I was now in the Harley family and had made some good friends and I was loathe to leave it. I then traded it in for a 2014 Fat Boy which had running boards and that huge back tyre. Long story short I struggle with the running boards , feet forward and cornering on that big fat tyre so I think the SG could now be the answer to my problems given your review. Ok feet forward will take some getting use to but many have done it before me so it shouldn't be an issue. Just as important as this is that home maintenance shouldn't be a problem either. Great review thanks Ted

    I love my sport glide (2019) last year 12k this year 18k so in two seasons 30k + runs perfect has a stage 2 . I live in the US east coast been to Sturgis and Yellowstone. Tennessee for tail of the dragon this bike does it all. I buy a road glide in 2020 and took delivery of it in January of this year got 10k on it now next season the road glide will be my touring bike and the softail will be my daily one. Hoping to get a 100k on both bikes. Enjoy the ride and stay safe from a old guy on a harley

    Hey Alf, i too love the Harley sport glide. I bought mine in April and have put over 16k in it to date. I have changed a few things like the rear shock. The stock unit is crap in my opinion i opted for the progressive in 13.5 in.
    Offers better ground clearance. Also added a taller wind screen and a better seat. Not much else I would change.

    I suspect Harley wanted with the Sport Glide to target riders that have been disappointed with the Switchback. It may explain why this bike came later and updated than the rest of the first models on the line ... at a lower price point.
    They took the time to make it as good as possible to regain this rider type, especially after the Switchback fail or semi-fail ...
    And they did great I think. Now with the matching paint on the saddlebags, if I wasn't already commited to modify my Heritage, I would surely swap.
    As Sir Richard once said to Henry Jones Jr, "you chose wisely" :-)

    Great review. Bought a used 2018 Sport Glide last November. A big change from a 2005 Deluxe stage 2. Still getting use to it and am about to go stage 2 on this one. I have read that the early M8 has cam and oil pump issues? Regardless, love the bike and will love it a bit more when it is a bit louder. Cheers

    Hi Alf! Thanks for the vid! I to just hit 10K on my sport glide and I would have to say I totally concur with your opinions. Man this motorcycle never gets ridden without a Huge sense of satisfaction. It can get you into trouble though ;) I've done some minor mods with the appearance, comfort and motor(ss breather, tuner, rinehart 4" slip on)wind screen etc. with a bit more to get to where I want to be. one note: when long distance touring(over 200 mile/trip) with a pillion, I do desire a larger more comfortable platform for my passenger and myself. This bike can feel a little cramped when on tour in two up mode BUT still an absolute joy as is. question: do you ever feel the single disc front brake will direct the steering at times depending on road surface ??? I do. Anyway Thanks again!

    I have to agree with your review. My bike is a 2018 and I have to admit I have only managed 7000 miles, due to an operation and Covid. It is bog standard and intend to leave it that way. I fitted 4 inch risers and that did stop the slight pain between the shoulders. I would like to get rid of the lurch when slow riding and that may mean buying a tuner. I have had no problems either. Original tyres lasted 6000 miles and have also fitted Cobra Chromes. They do allow the bike to turn a bit quicker. I thought of swapping it and tried a KTM Super Adventure S. Great bike but too cramped for my 6'2" frame. The SG is an easy 70 mph on a motorway with the very occasional 80+, so the fairing suits me. I very rarely ride motorways anyway. Living in the Yorkshire Dales I have enough bends and twist to throw the bike around and it copes really well. Don' think I will be swapping for a while yet either.

      Which bike is this for and where are you seeing rust or water inside? Do you mean surface rust? Check for any drain holes in the underside of the frame in general to see if any are blocked with dirt. How old is your bike and do you ride in the winter months. Do you protect it with any moisture repellent?

    How are HDs out of the box now? I rode a 1200 sportster and a Dynaglide back in the early naughtiest and was very dissapointed. The 1200 just vibrated and the Dyna was just a naff riding experience for what was at the time an expensive bike. The brakes were rubbish and wooden, the engine was gutless and it ground out everywhere. Is there a HD with the M8 engine that doesn't have forward pegs on it? Most riders have a secret itch to get one if they're honest but I couldn't justify buying an expensive bike then having to spend loads upgrading it. Cheers

    • @RevelatorAlf

      The new ones with the M8 engine are far better and the Softails are just the best overall package. If you're looking for mid pegs then the Street Bob or Standard is what you're looking at with a better power to weight ratio too. Cheers

    • @Evirthewarrior
      @Evirthewarrior 3 роки тому

      @@scootjockey The guy comments on it in the video I linked. There are different types of braking, some brakes are designed to slow you down, so you can corner better, such as on sport motorcycles, some brakes are designed to bring you to a fast stop, such as on Harleys. There are always trade offs with whatever you have. There is no motorcycle or motorcycle part that is perfect or best for every single situation.
      You also have a lot more weight shifting forward driving your tire into the ground harder, giving you more of a contact patch. and Harleys tend to not have their back tire come off the ground giving you more friction on the stop also.
