    M’Baku roaring “THE BLACK PANTHER LIIIIIIIIVES” and leading the Jabari in their war chant, followed by Shuri being on the verge of tears as the Elders bless her, crying and singing in rejoice, and gratitude for her bringing back their hero when all seemed lost. And on a meta level, showing that Black Panther WILL continue as we bid farewell to Chadwick Boseman one last time.

      Additional point: while Shuri decided Namor's fate the same way T'challa did M'baku's, she said that vengeance has already consumed 'us', including herself (contrary to T'challa saying that he will not let it consume him) - she is definitely walking a different path than him, yet she is still able to choose not to have that vengeance consume all of Wakanda. Extremely fascinating nuances

      I got emotional when I considered how they saved TChalla in the 1st one, so as a character part of Shuri would't believe he was really dying or that she couldn't save him because they already brough him back once. So it makes sense it took her a whole year and war to let it go that he wasn't coming back and now she had lost her mother as well which is what get's me at end when Queen Ramonda appears in vision and tells her show her who we are.
      This is why the MCU needs to really capitalize and make Shuri one of most persevere character in MCU like what sold us on Nebula on last saga.

      That's a trait borrowed from the comics iteration of T'Challa. Also they wouldn't have had time for an internal monogue it's already 2 hrs long. Being Black Panther was the quickest and surest way for Shuri to get the support of the ruling tribes and go to war against Namor so even if she thought it was a relic... it was still the best vehicle to her revenge. Same as Killmonger actually... he burned the herb because he thought the Panther was legitimately evil and it killed his dad... but he still saw the value of the mantle in getting people to do what he wanted.

      @@afnd4603 It's funny, I felt it didn't come soon enough. These two civilizations need each other for defense (even though we know Namor will try to manipulate it to be offensive), so watching their people kill each other was really painful. No matter how technologically advanced they are, there's a legit chance history will repeat itself and they'll be colonized and destroyed. They can't afford to fight.
      Given the stakes, with so many deaths, where they each almost had to die - it *still* came down to Shuri having a spiritual revelation and Namor making a strategic choice. It took a lot to reach that tentative 'unity'.

    • @kahoots7724
      @kahoots7724 Рік тому +37

      I felt like Shuri's acceptance of the mantle on her own terms was more about coming to grips with her grief, rather than her relationship with spirituality and tradition. I read Shuri's refusal of the crown (and even skipping the ceremony) being indicative of that including her choice of Haiti to do the ritual. I think she's willing to accept the presence of spirituality, but I felt like they were setting her up for a future arc where she takes on her difficult relationship with Bast later on down the line.

    it always moved me, how actor Letitia Wright's and the character Shuri's path mirrored each other. Letitia was cast as a supporting character when she was still young and though I, of course, have no clue what the future of her character had been had Chadick Boseman not passed away, I don't think she'd have been expected to step up into the main role of a character which means so much to so many people. thus just like Shuri had to pick up the mantle of the Black Panther and the crown of her country after her father died, after her brother died and finally after her mother died, so did Letitia have to pick up the lead role of this franchise.
    and she did an excellent job and I do like her version of the Black Panther.

    I loved the first one so much, and I absolutely loved Chadwick Boseman and was heartbroken when he paseed (made all the worse by the fact that my mother and step-father were battling cancer when he passed). I thought that there would be no chance that I would enjoy the second film. Instead, I found it so powerful, respectful, and well done on so many levels. I cried during the funeral for T'Challa, and when the Queen was kiilled (made worse by the loss of my mother not long ago), I started audibly sobbing and pretty much just had tears going through the rest of the film. I felt so deeply for Shuri, and it was so well written. The emotions in this film were so real and moving and not used in the way that so many films do where they use it as a weapon agains the audience. Rather than using the deaths of both Boseman and the characters as ham fisted tools, like so many films do; they depicted grief as a true thing in the many different ways that it affects us all; while giving powerful topics on ethics, racism, politics, etc.; and the gorgeous action scenes were not distracting or detracting from the heavy issues. I liked this film as much as I did the first. I rarely go to the theater anymore, and I was glad that I did. It was so worth the price and effort, even with the terrible chairs at our theater. I was glad I could then watch it again at home so soon after, thanks to streaming.

    This is my favourite Marvel movie tbh. Using grief as the main theme throughout and having almost every conversation and character interaction be underlaid with it made the storytelling and investment so much stronger than other Marvel movies for me. It had to be an incredible amount of pressure juggling so many goals with one film and needing it to be a proper goodbye and tribute to your friend and colleague, this had every reason to be a sad incoherent mess we would all want to put behind us, but they threw so much effort and heart into it and made a fantastic film. I did cry during the Marvel logo when they showed silent images of Chadwick.
    I know some people thought Shuri's build made her seem comical as a fighter but like....they have magical metal and spirit visions and she drank a magic flower elixir that creates superhumans, and Atlantis is real. You can't suspend disbelief about a skinny girl being tough? I went to public school, I've seen skinny girls go absolutely feral, they can fight lol. I can't wait to see what Black Panther 3 brings.
