Hi everyone ,, thank you all for you positive vibrations. we have all worked hard here and have something special ,, i love workin' for ya folks and comin' here ..
thanks for the info. ive been using a hookeroon for a while but i have never seen pulp hooks. im gettin some of them. your videos are great. keep it up
Buckin Billy thanks for the demonstration of the pickaroon, I need one of them for my dad for unloading firewood from the truck bed. Thanks for the great videos my friend! Peace!
For 11 years, in the Kootenays, and in my 70s, I managed to stay safe in felling & splitting our fire wood. Now elsewhere & caregiver to my wife in long term care with Alzheimer’s, your show helps me to deal with our terrible journey. Thank you.
I’ve never seen another group on UA-cam that is as positive as this one. It seems as though the internet often brings the worst out of people but this group and these videos fly directly in the face of that and I am thoroughly enjoying it! Thank you all and let’s be kind to one another!
My Pop introduced me to this one word and I will never forget it, I am 70 years old now and my Pop is long gone. Thanks for that one Pop. The word is “tough”. Look it up. “Strong and durable; not easily broken or cut, not brittle or tender.” “Capable of great endurance; sturdy; hardy.” This to me is the very definition of being a man. Respect for your fellow creatures and never be afraid to call a lier a lier to there face. Lying I consider being a major breach in any interaction with humans. Lie to me once we are done.
Hi Billy, my name is Will and I’m from Ohio in the United States. I just wanted to say hi and thank you for what you do. What I like most is how upbeat you are it make me want to be a better kind to man. Thank you for all you do keep it up. Love you man.
Hey Buckin!! Man I really love watching your video's!!! Your attitude and energy towards life is infectious!! I've only been watching for a couple weeks now, and you're my favorite channel BY FAR!! Also, I've been going back and watching some of your older videos and came across one where you talked about turning your life around and getting off drugs and alcohol. Proud to say that we have that in common. January 2nd will be 12 years for me without one drop of alcohol or any drugs. God bless, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! I will keep watching!!
Thanks for putting together this channel Billy Ray. I just bought some acreage of timber and my first chainsaw, your videos have been very helpful to me as I get my property fixed up. God Bless.
Buckin Billy ray, I have been watching you for quite a while now. Hands down the best UA-cam channel it's like watching a tv series you can't get enough of. Thank you sir.
Man, it doesn't matter what you post, I just genuinely enjoy everything you post because of your outlook on life and the positivity you put out in the world. Your attitude brightens my day regardless of what's going on. So thanks.
Thanks for the inspiration Billy Ray.You remind Me of my Late father who died 24years ago and he's my Best Friend! Following in your footsteps. Rock on Brother.🏆
Merry Christmas to the Buckin family. Thank you for this place. Everyone here has been very welcoming to me. Thank you all for that! Keep up the goodwork biggin
Thank you, Buckin, for all you do. For a guy who just wanted to show chain sharpening and sell 20 axes 😄, you've created a movement to make the world a better place.
Thank you once again for another great video Billy! Can't have enough wood management tools, so my "go to's" are a regular old hook like yours, a 12" hookaroon, a 28" hookaroon and a 36" pickaroon...all get fairly equal use, depending on the task... Peace all and Billy, keep the positive vibes coming...
Watching your work really makes me appreciate my forklift, tractor, splitter and 20 ft flatbed with a lift gate. I am just starting out and here I'm whining about not having a dump bed or trailer. Much respect. I have one of those hooks for hay I'm going to try and I'm definitely going to buy a pickeroon thank you for demonstrating as both tools have their place.
I like the pickeroons for the truck picking too... if the dump gets some stuck on the side and it just makes you look like a professional wood guy!!! Keep er movin'!!!
Good morning from N.C. Buckin and Army!! I'm also working up fire wood today along with working on a echo cs-3000 top Handel saw and getting ready to make my 044 in to a ported 460 big bore hybrid :) I'm just happy to be doing what I love to do! Peace love and kindness going out to ALL!!
hey buckin' , ive been a subscriber for a VERY long time but i rarely ever comment and i dont know why....but i would like to thank you for everything because i have learned oh so very much from your videos. This channel is good for my soul...living in southern california can be hard on the mind and i use your channel to escape. Thank you brother!
You’re welcome Buckin!!! I have a lot of fun being here and being kind!!! Looking forward to the Roarin 20’s with the Army and fellow soldiers of kindness!!!
Good morning to ya Billy Ray.I thought I would share a wood trick my Uncle Rondell taught me when I was 16. Always stack your wood bark side up to shed the water when it rains and your wood will be dry enough for the fire. That's the same day he tought me the flick. Thanks Uncle Rondell,I will never forget you. RIP 😔
great stuff.. ya when we wood do big jobs and buck all the wood i wood keep the rounds down like a log and not flip them for splitting until the time came .. uncle Rondell was a good man
those stacks are beautifull in many ways. security. warmth. aesthetic. stature. just the beaty of the wood. i bet the smell is great. what a life u got there man.
I wanted to take a minute to thank you for your chain sharpening video's. The difference is night and day the way my saws cut through a piece of wood. I've tried every gizmo and gadget and came to the realization that they are mostly a crutch and the lowly file does the best job. Once I spent the time to get a good straight stroke and know what to look for, WOW! Chunks are flying. I have several saws, some are cheep home owner saws and some pro grade, and they are all awesome tools to get the job done now. Thanks again!
Haha. Love it. You bail out of the truck without shutting the door. I'm so the king of not shutting the truck door. Yes this comment was kind of random. Man I have alot of catching up to do on your videos. Some say I work way too much. Great video once again.
After I saw your first video showcasing pulp hooks for firewood, I searched Amazon and found picaroons. Then I was confused about which to buy and searched a hundred videos only to find your comparison video on the two in the end lol. Pulp hooks it is haha thanks!!
@NH-Hill Billy I was wondering about that. I just received it yesterday and it seems pretty blunt! I live in Missouri and cut mostly hardwoods. The tip is not sharp at all. Any suggestions?
Hi billy Mike from Ireland I use a shorter handle pickeroon for picking logs up off the ground I wouldn't go no where without it stay safe love your vids
I've been using a pickaroon to unload my truck for several years now. Best use for the tool that I've found, saves a lot of jumping in and out of the bed! Lookin fwd to what's in store for 2020! Cheers!
Merry Christmas Buckin and Family!! I use a picaroon because it works for me. But I am not flicking the wood. I pick it and stack it right after it gets split. It works for me but I see how the hooks could be beneficial for other situations.
Watching this was kind of nice. I saw little gestures and movements you used with you pulp hook that I use when I use a spike back tomahawk for the same purpose. What works for you is the best way. Glad you are happy with your method I'll get a pulp hook for next season and give it a bash
Hey there Buckin, Billy. I'm a new subscriber. I came across your channel about a week ago and after just a couple of videos I am a fan Sir. I'm a single Dad, with two incredible boys. I blinked, and they are already becoming young men. I hope to introduce them to you - certainly some of the simple pleasures of working hard and smart with our hands - but especially to your influence as a good man who has the courage to live out and share his values. "LNF"
Thanks for your videos. I just watched this one and really enjoyed it. I don't know if it would make any difference but the point on your pickaroon is very straight. The hookaroon should a curved point. It could make a difference. Using either the pickaroon or hookaroon will still be slower than just using your hands. They really seem more useful for bringing things in the front on the truck bed to the rear of the bed. I really liked the way the pulp hook worked for you. That was the first time I've seen one used. Thanks for sharing it. Thanks again for your videos.
Don’t know how I came across this channel but I love the positivity& interesting content. My grandma used to tell me be kind all the time so i got it tattooed recently pretty cool to see it in your videos . Keep up the great work . Jamie from CT
I find a pickaroon pretty handy rolling logs on a firewood pile or dragging heavy pieces back so you have room to cut again. Also handy if your picking firewood in the woods in some brush. Grandpa would always grind the tip like a sharp hook. Sticks better on hardwood. Nice for standing big pieces on end for splitting. Lots of different tools for different applications. A day on the firewood pile is a good day. Enjoy the content on your videos.
Man, I’ve always pined after a new truck but after seeing what you can do with an old beauty of a beater, I think that’s the direction I will go! Great feel on the drums, can’t wait to learn that myself
Can’t wait to see what you’re going to be doing in 2020, hard to top what you’ve been posting so far. The best part of your videos is the real content and heart you put into them. It’s obvious you enjoy making them and I/we enjoy watching them. Thanks for your channel. Happy New Year to you and your family and the whole Buckin’ Army.
Buckin, we in Europe (Germany, Swiss, Austria) are using the „Pikeroon“ very often. We call it „Sapie“. There are normally 2 handle Sizes. Short and Long . You are using a Long one.
Buckin' Billy Ray Smith Yet another great video. Love it all, if only the world had more people like you. Merry Christmas to you and your family and all BC. Keep them coming the TV is xhit over here in England. Ps liked and subscribed as requested. You have just shortened the longest day Thanks Mark
I get what you mean , the pickeroon makes you half stoop , guaranteed back ache , the hook makes you keep moving , easier on the old hinges . Great video 👍🇬🇧
I use a pickaroon all the time to skid wood to, and to pick up wood onto my hydraulic splitter. I'm only in my 40's but, I have the back of someone in their 80's. Repetitive bowing kills my lower back due to prior back injuries.
I've stared making my own wood. I'm looking for picking tool for me. I think that hook supoused to be longer. To reach split and stay higher. I think you are right. Hook looks better and I had the same thoughts when seller show me in store. Now crazy stuff. I feel like I have been using this tool a lot:) like axe. I grab it as a teenager and first hit and I felt the same. Father was proud of me when he saw that after few hours of work I was like like a pro. Proud of my father was more courious than my abilities;]
Hi Billy over the last 25 years i have tried both the pickeroon and the log hook and i much prefer the pickeroon unlike you I don't mind stooping. I also noticed that when you load logs into the truck most times you use both hands, so not a great advantage you can get the pickeroon with an 18inch shaft, worth trying, 5 years ago i was involved in accident which broke my right femur in 4or5 places and completely smashed my hip i was 11hours on the operating table and i am lucky to be alive never mind still have a full set of limbs but it has been a long hard painful road back ,so I like to try to keep active we burn about 20tons of logs per year so it's hard going. I am 64 years old so it's not getting any easier, this was not to be a criticism of your choice of tool we each have our own ideas, keep making the posts i love them take care. J Steven Anderson Scotland (God's country)
I like the idea of a pickaroon for unloading firewood, I'm always having to climb up and down to unload where I could just snag them to side or back. Great advice thanks buckin!
Interesting how regionally names for tools vary. In Maine my grampa used 2 different pulp hooks. The first was called a birch hook. It was made from round stock was very sharp. They used them to toss white birch for the tooth pick mill. The big risk was the hook diving into a punky heart wood and wouldnt let go on the toss. The other pulp hook was usually made from flat stock ground to a point on the end. I have one of each that he passed down to me. Kinda cool!
Oh boy, Billy has new editing software to play with...all these messages on the screen it's like I'm cracking open a visual fortune cookie. Just wish he showed what my lucky numbers are. BTW, your driver side brake light is out.
Pickaroon is awesome for rolling logs over so u can finish cutting thru. He'll I use it to gather brush n make brush pile. They work good to just grab a big log n drag it closer to trailer to split
just started watching your channel about a week ago . ..stumbled upon it you could say...older gent from BC , , doing firewood , handsplit shakes and fence rails .. you bring a smile to my face and your great outlook is inspiring ..your love for the outdoors shines through and the knowledge you are sharing is great ..all the best to you and your family and be safe . did you ever do any shake blocking ? Got about 4 inches of snow is all, so i think i will get out and buck me up some firewood logs. The rain shes a coming.
Hi Buckin ! From what I see the pulp hook is superior to the hook/pick a roon for loading up ... I have a homemade one with long handle I use to get those pcs by the front of the box so u don’t have to jump up in the cab ... works nicely ... the STIHL hook a roon I own is 30” long , I use primarily for moving rounds from the bucked position to an upright position for splitting ease ... it has a sharp point and really gets good purchase on the wood ... when in position a kick with the toe “pops” it right out ... I personally wood not use it to load a truck , geometry of pick wouldn’t allow a “flick” ... on a side note you gotta demo the new 572xp ! ... when properly modded it WILL outcut the older beloved 372xp by a fair percentage !!!
Buckin' Billy Ray Smith I’m serious about the 572xp Buckin ... I know you’re “old-school” and luv the 372xps - great saws for sure ... comin from a STIHL guy that saw , the 572xp, is primo and I like it as much as me 462c ... Husqvarna has been developing/testing it since around 2011 and hit it out of the park imho ... check one out Buckin , ya won’t be disappointed sir !!!
Hi everyone ,, thank you all for you positive vibrations. we have all worked hard here and have something special ,, i love workin' for ya folks and comin' here ..

I ordered a pulp hook based upon your recommendation and it will be here Tuesday.
@NH-Hill Billy I was wondering about that. I just received it yesterday and it seems pretty blunt! I live in Missouri and cut mostly hardwoods.
The tip is not sharp at all.
Any suggestions?
@NH-Hill Billy OK, so I was coreect in thinking the blunt end should be almost knife like in appearance?
@NH-Hill Billy Thank you, and have a happy new year!

Thanks @@Woodman_Custom_Sawing I love that log loader. It's small but it does a lot of work.
Kinda cool!
very kool Mr lunt .. charish those
Oh boy, Billy has new editing software to play with...all these messages on the screen it's like I'm cracking open a visual fortune cookie. Just wish he showed what my lucky numbers are. BTW, your driver side brake light is out.
Another fantastic video! 👍👍
Well this video settled it. No money spent on a pickaroon. I’m going to give the hook a go. Thanks. Love the truck
Pickaroon is awesome for rolling logs over so u can finish cutting thru. He'll I use it to gather brush n make brush pile. They work good to just grab a big log n drag it closer to trailer to split
Your my favourite lumberjack person I love your vids soo so so so much please makes more❤❤❤❤❤❤

Good show mate have a good new years 😆👍👍
Dude, those quotes touch me way to deep, thanks man
Glad you like them!
I personally wood not use it to load a truck , geometry of pick wouldn’t allow a “flick” ... on a side note you gotta demo the new 572xp ! ... when properly modded it WILL outcut the older beloved 372xp by a fair percentage !!!
good stuff
Buckin' Billy Ray Smith I’m serious about the 572xp Buckin ... I know you’re “old-school” and luv the 372xps - great saws for sure ... comin from a STIHL guy that saw , the 572xp, is primo and I like it as much as me 462c ... Husqvarna has been developing/testing it since around 2011 and hit it out of the park imho ... check one out Buckin , ya won’t be disappointed sir !!!
GOD bless you sir your a good man
and thanks for the wonderful videos
With you at the wheel steering this channel I guarantee it's going to grow and it's going to be one hell of a ride! Pease love and power saws!
