1:48 that one I counted around 1.5 seconds from the click to thunder which means that bolt is less than 600 feet away, btw that click is electrical arcing thru your mains wiring causing one or more of them to snap, also if you can hear thunder you are within striking distance
Thanks for your comment Nemo. The strike was even closer but I think the click was static as it blew papers off my desk! Fortunately the wiring was not damaged.
Wow, that static snap at 1:48 was frightening in and of itself! It and the following thunder were insane! I like the quality of this video because, for one, your reactions are very real. (and similar to how I would have reacted) That, and the camera picked up the true magnitude of the loudness. Some cameras "equalize out" the thunder, but in this video we really can hear how terrifying those claps were. On a side note, I remember having a storm like this one, and our fusebox did the same thing. As soon as I heard the crackle, I tried to plug my ears with my fingers. But the thunder came before I could do it! It wasn't quite as loud as this one, but it sure was scary! Thanks for courageously filming this even though you were scared - It's one of the best thunder videos on UA-cam.
Lightning clips are pretty loud if you're underneath them! The sound is caused by static and arcing between 2 points. A word of caution to Meade918. Please DO NOT SWEAR on my page.
I was at school in Portsmouth when a thunderstorm happened at lunchtime, i saw a triple, 3 in 1 CG bolt, followed by a massive thunderclap, I didn't stay outside for long...
I just made my mate from the states watch this and he lives in a thunderstorm prone area and he said he's never heard thunder like that! our English storms are pretty good sometimes!
Thanks for your comments. We live near Handcross, which seem to bear the brunt. It WAS overhead which is why I couldn't film much lightning. Apparently it cooked one of the electricity poles! As for storm chasing, I got too scared!!!
@joe65TVS Hey Joe, I am really sorry. That message wasn't for you but for someone else whose message I removed. Please accept my deepest apologies and love. I should have separated the two messages. You ARE welcome on my page!!
Great video.. next time if you are there get in to your car before the storm gets too close. With rubber tyres the car acts as a faraday cage protecting the occupants even from a direct strike. That looked very scarey and too close. Thanks for sharing.
A year ago i was hoping for a storm like this we had one friday night just gone and the lightning was unreal i did get sum footage on my phone :) took years for a good one
Great storm, well captured, good sound. One thing though, do they not get many storms in the UK because your reaction wouldn't that of us yanks that would be outside filming it. Maybe you're a little feminine? Maybe the company of another man would have made all the difference in the world for you?
janepolly Hey good video!! it's quite rare but this sounds like a positive lighting storm . Where the lighting travels right from the top of the thunder cloud all the way down to strike the ground . Hence why the explosive bangs. Well captured thanks for sharing
Meso. some people are brontophobic, have you ever taken into consideration that this guy may be so? Not saying he is, but his overwhelming anxiety clearly suggests he was scared. So next time please think before you judge someone.
I keep returning to this vid, defo one of the best thunderstorm vids on UA-cam for sound

You sounded real scared!! Great video and classic storm, thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Holy guacamole! That thunder sounded apocalyptic. Enough to give anybody the heebie-jeebies!
Love thunderstorms, that sounds pretty much overhead as the thunder is pretty much straight after the lightning, nice one for capturing that!!!!
Did anyone now about that huge thunderstorm in hull-bridge essex it was so loud it hit about midnight in 2013? anyone re call that storm??

It certainly was a noisy one. Strangely, we've had hardly any since. Thanks for the kudos
