Baby Luce is so attentive and intelligent. She is trying to raise her upper body to sit up and picking tomato with one hand. I love the way she responds to her dad singing to her by her also trying to do the same to him. Is her sleeping bassinet’s top part detachable from the bottom part? If so then you could just lift that part and put it in the space you created in the van for her mattress and you will have her head and the sides comfortably shielded/supported. You will soon need a bigger van. Loving, adventurous, and brave parents. Thanks for sharing.

Think about a baby hammock, perhaps with a rigid bottom and some type of soft side netting that attaches to the sides or ceiling. It could easily be taken on or off using carabiners. Something that allows her to see out. Maybe even some bungees that will allow some jumping.
Luca and Sarah, a possible solution: create a fold down board, hinged at the left side of the picture (18:01), that can be lowered to the height of your sink countertop or level with the main bed, then cover with seat cushions. The board need to be only 2 cm thick at most for her weight, and that would hold some thicker screws to attach the hinge. Mount a wooden trim piece as a stop for the loose end of the board. Hope this is a workable suggestion. Love!

When Luce gets bigger, you can use two bamboo poles across the width of the van with material that slot into 4 half round cups to use as a bed about a foot above your bed (if that makes sense) + loving the home cooking ❤
Luca & Sara, you two are such creative people. Great solution for Luce now. As she grows “longer”, what if you create a modified hammock for her. It could suspend from above, perpendicular to your body’s length, right across your legs, so if you needed to get up, you could still maneuver to do so. The “hammock could be rectangular in shape with sturdy base and netted sides to protect her from falling out. Each corner would be held with a strap attached with a carabiner to an strong eye hook in the wall. And theoretically, you could rock her in her little hammock complete with her favorite mattress. This is a project for a good seamstress. 😁 🌹🌷👶

You need to have something more secure to protect Luce's head against the water tap. There is also a gap between the two pillows that you put under her which might not be good for her spine.

We used a similar arrangement initially but placing Moses basket in space not just mattress. You can then use it at other times and safer. Stroller can go in front overnight. You have got this.

You do see those shutters occasionally in the US, but not often. You see them in high crime areas. They make sense in areas with vacation homes. Houses without people living in or near them tend to get robbed and vandalized. We just installed security screen doors on our home. They are on hinges and have a doorknob and deadbolt like regular doors. We live in Southern California near the coast. We get lovely ocean breezes in the evening. We have been in a heat wave for the past few weeks. Now we can open the doo, but keep the security screens closed and locked, but we still get that lovely cool air from after in until morning! Your screens are a wonderful idea! I love all of the changes you have made to your home and land!

You have a small window of time to enjoy the van with your 6 to 9 month old baby. It will be more challenging when she is a toddler as she will need space to move. Of course you can tire her out with lots of parks during the day. Seeing a place with a child is a different experience than seeing it as an adult and it will be wonderful. It looks like your van is doing really well for what you need right now so enjoy it. Maybe you can find a few Airbnb stays along the way. Personally I don’t know how you could leave your beautiful home and garden… It is extraordinary!

So happy for you that you are able to accommodate a bed for Luce in the van, though she definitely will outgrow the space very quickly. We used a similar arrangement initially but placing Moses basket in space not just mattress. You can then use it at other times and safer. Stroller can go in front overnight. You have got this.

You do see those shutters occasionally in the US, but not often. You see them in high crime areas. They make sense in areas with vacation homes. Houses without people living in or near them tend to get robbed and vandalized.
We just installed security screen doors on our home. They are on hinges and have a doorknob and deadbolt like regular doors. We live in Southern California near the coast. We get lovely ocean breezes in the evening. We have been in a heat wave for the past few weeks. Now we can open the doo, but keep the security screens closed and locked, but we still get that lovely cool air from after in until morning!

You have a small window of time to enjoy the van with your 6 to 9 month old baby. It will be more challenging when she is a toddler as she will need space to move. Of course you can tire her out with lots of parks during the day. Seeing a place with a child is a different experience than seeing it as an adult and it will be wonderful. It looks like your van is doing really well for what you need right now so enjoy it. Maybe you can find a few Airbnb stays along the way. Personally I don’t know how you could leave your beautiful home and garden… It is extraordinary!

So happy for you that you are able to accommodate a bed for Luce in the van, though she definitely will outgrow the space very quickly. You may be able to order crib bumpers to place alongside her bed to protect her from the back door.
