yeah, he looks great, but it is the actually the standard typical next door good looking dude. I used to look similar to that with his age . Dark buckled hair and all. Now at 50, things changed a bit, lol.
7:55 The main language of the core of the medieval Kingdom of Burgundy (the area around Lake Geneva) would actually have been the forerunner of Franco-Provençal, the Romance language which is related to but separate from both French and Occitan (in modern usage, Provençal refers more narrowly to a dialect of Occitan, but Provençal historically referred to Occitan as a whole). Today, Franco-Provençal is severely endangered in France and Switzerland but still is spoken by many in Italy.

This was the first video of yours that I've ever come across, but I do have a few comments! The face reveal was good - coming from a first-time viewer, it felt more like a conversation and relaying information. As a historian myself, I know how important face-to-face communication can be and sometimes that conveyance is much easier and straightforward when you have a visual connection. I think a balance of face-to-face as well as whiteboards, maps, diagrams, whatever, works really well. I really like this video because I learned something new that I didn't really know a tonne about before. Despite having studies (partially) medieval studies during my master's degree, I wasn't hugely familiar with the Kingdom of Arles beyond the name, general geography, and a few notes. But this has given me some interest in doing a bit more reading. Do you have any books you'd recommend on the kingdom's existence, if there are any? Thanks for your videos! Saúde!
Hello, Gil! It's good to see you after all this time. I've been here for many years but, I usually have refrained from making comments. I should probably comment more. It does help. You do such a fantastic job with this channel. I am always impressed with the work you do. My first thought on seeing your image was, "Wow! That hair!' If I had just half the amount of hair that you have I would be happy. The hair on the top of my head started disappearing when I was about 24 y.o.a. I also thought you were in your mid 30s but, you look like you might be about 26. Keep up the great work and I will see you in your next video!
Super cute face reveal and my home town (Valenciennes) on a map? Win I think the various Spanish kingdoms would be a good idea for a video, your map already showed some like Leon and Navarre!
I’m shocked no one told me about this kingdom in university and I study Romance language and literature and literally had history of France classes that covered everything since Roman times… and it’s great to know I’m in what used to be a cool medieval kingdom for holidays right now! Also, when you said their history goes Like partition partition partition I was like “is it Poland’s twin or something?”
YOUR FACE, nice to meet you properly, love your videos as always. I have a great book can't remember the name that looks at the lost countries of Europe and it's such a fascinating topic.

I will say, I enjoy this new format, as it truly does allow for a greater exploration of the topic and a more in-depth explanation of historical events and trends.
Loving the new format, it's great to hear that you will be delving deeper into specific topics. You have a distinctive voice, and excellent manner of speech, your face (and facial expressions) now just adds even more personality to your videos.
Brittany could be an interesting video - another one consumed by France. People in the UK don’t know much about its Celtic origins in their country so it could make a great video if you wanted.
@@MrMalcovic they’re Celtic and more related to Cornish and Welsh people, Cornwall is technically part of England but England is more associated with the Germanic Anglo-Saxons who pushed the ancestors of Brittany out of Britain.

Related to this, the one I find funny is the history of Savoy. How when given the chance to become the King of Italy, Victor Emmanuel simply said to France "Sure! Here you have the keys to my house and the WiFi code, oh, and keep Nice please, needs feeding twice a day! Off I got to make Italy!"

I really enjoy this format of video. Information barely scratched the surface, giving me a superficial understanding in your previous videos, but this in-depth video has me coming away much more informed. The only potential problem with this is its length. I personally really enjoy 20 mins videos, but sometimes, I just don't have the time and the majority of people won't have the attention span. Glad to see your face and great video about a fascinating topic! Very interesting the origin, the existence and the history of Burgundy! This kind of stories fascinates me and makes me wonder how the people felt about the disappearance of such land, how they dealt with their identity, the remains of their culture, etc, etc...
