STRAIT TO THE POINT! No bunch of bs or off topic chatter to wade through here before seeing what you came for. Wish all DIY videos were like this one. ★★★★★
Other method to use while truck is running, and if you have decent hearing is use a hose like a stethoscope but hold the hose near manifold not on it. Or just take a huge bong rip and blow it on the exhaust manifold and see the leak is blowing the smoke, then promptly forget which side.
Well I started the video, hit pause right away, ran in the house and hit the bowl a couple times, resumed video...I felt the need to be higher so I can be as laid back as you, great video but I'll try it tomorrow cuz I'm not looking to fix shit at the moment
I've watched 5 or 6 videos on "Finding Exhaust Leaks" before this video and and they all used this method but this is the only one that actually showed the wetting and the bubbles so we know what it looks like. Damn cool rock music to boot!
Thanks , I really need to remake this video, this was way early in my UA-cam uploads , I had no Idea how to make UA-cam videos lol. Thanks again for the great comment and for checking out some of my latest videos.
@@Donnythelatemodeltech I just fixed the problem I was having for weeks with my O2 sensors and fuel trims by tightening my header bolts. Where can I find that cool guitar music? Cheers
After the first few seconds, you already know where your head should be, you got less than 5 min to get there. Seriously, you saved me a massive amount of frustration🤣🤣
H2 same ticking starts/ stops after running a while ... engine light on, put gas in on a fill up takes a long time to start, two mechanics say smoke leak detection test needed ... no engine performance issues ... codes P0496, 442, 455, 449 flow, small leak, large leak, solenoid....then I had a problem ticking sound on highway months later would not go above x3000rpm couldn't go faster than 35 mph. Codes P0700 transmission +P0752 shift solenoid valve stuck on. So changed the transmission fluid.. ran fine after that ...one place told me I needed a 4500$ to 5100$ trasmission fix .... I think the ticking sound just as you described it and the codes seem to suggest the same ....
Some of those codes are evap system codes, "fuel vapor system emissions stuff" you cant use this vacuum trick on those. You got to smoke it. I'm editing a video on smoke testing currently. Let me know if your still there and we can have a conversation.
Fair point, but I would imagine the pressure being so low it shouldn't be a real concern. If a valve were open there would be high pressure in the cylinder and any debris should want to follow the air out of the leak. Just my opinion, of course.
looks like I have to duct tape my 2nd tip since i have dual exhaust. I'll try that method. problem is my exhaust manifold is on firewall side which makes it harder to check.
Did you get a P1174 code for that leak? Or did you monitor Fuel Trims before and after this repair? Trying to trouble shoot my truck... Just fixed my leak but the code remains. Thanks.
Thanks for the idea man I’m gonna try this! This is like testing for Boost leaks on a turbo but backwards. My car has been running like shit and the exhaust note has changed. Now when you put the vacuum tube in the tail pipe does it need to be sealed all the way around?
Hi great clip. Is there any preparations before u push the airhose into the exhauste pipe, except of course tape the pipe with the hose for no leaks ? I have a leaf blower. 1. For ex could u hurt, damage the manifold or engine by blowing air into it 2. Is it bad or dangerous too use too much airpressure depending that a leafblower with vaccum have some high airpressure even at the lowest level, level 1 3. Should u use sucking / vaccum stage first soo u suck out dirt or any lose particals in the whole exhaustepipe 4. Could that damage silencer internal materia or catalyst internal materia by airpressure if its too high 5. Whats the normal "watts on air" u should use if point 1-4 has a factor of taking pre-caution? Thanks for answers even if the questions seems stupid Sorry for my bad english glosses too not using the right technical terms on internal plates in silencer plus catalyst
I used a leaf blower before had no other issues after of course it was on a G37 and not a Chevy but Ill try it again because my GMC may have a leak. You should be good but Im not a pro mechanic jajaja worked though, as the man stated simply and fast way to check for a leak
Oh yea, the shop vac isn't strong enough to cause any damage, just dont use compressed air - super destroyer. I had a headlamp explode on me using compressed air to dry it out.
TheLateModelTech2.0 i have 2006 lexus rx330 with p0420. So i replaced the bank 2 cat oem lexus n reset ck engine light. After 500mi p0420 code came back again. Bank 2 O2 Sensor 2 downstream detectd it.
If you replaced the cat the next step would be a scan tool.. but if you don't have that i would throw a bank 2 sensor 2 o2 sensor at it. just make sure your getting your banks correct.
Probably. Thanks , I really need to remake this video, this was way early in my UA-cam uploads , I had no Idea how to make UA-cam videos lol. Thanks again for the great comment and for checking out some of my latest videos.
nice method! I installed headers and have a leak, assuming its the crappy replacement flange gasket, I ordered better manifold gaskets so doubt its there, but driving me crazy hahaa.

Man I got so wrapped up in that guitar solo that I forgot why I even came to this video.
Same here. Who was that?
Dude seems like he is hella chill or hella high. Regardless it’s a great idea I will be trying very soon.
Lol. Nice observation, making clips is stressful. Thanks for the support 🤙
Why not both? Great vid mate cheers👍
Definitely high asf
😅😅😅😅😅😅
Dude found a leak in his bong and thought to himself to sounds like my Silverado bro..

this is the first comment i ever wrote. This is an ingeneous ideal . it worked i'm so glad you posted this

Worked like a charm! Had been chasing a tiny leak in a new set of headers, this showed it quickly.
Just did this on my boat engine (5.7l cobra) and it showed the leak immediately -Fabulous trick Thanks!!!
Awesome trick.. good video straight to the point

BINGO!!!! This video is tops
Thanks mate!
Stupid easy is right! Thanks for the tip!
Genius! Thanks! Beautiful truck by the way
Totally high... KILLER!!! Thumbs up from me buddy.
Like if you thought the spray bottle had a bad ass drum sound when squirting.. But then realised it was a song lol
Nice. Saved you $20 bucks is an understatement. Could have been dealing with sheared bolts. Great fix
Awesome, I can't wait to have to find a vacuum/exhaust leak .thanks bro!
Love this.
Great video. 👍
Thanks 👍

I would start with replacing the canister vent valve, it's cheap, clear the codes, drive a tank of gas out of it, then see what code you have left.
Awesome and like Gregory Jones said no Bs straight to the point. 👍👍👍👌
Thanks, song at the end please?
Wills this turn code p0430 on?
whew talk about chilled - but GREAT ADVISE DUDE!!! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO easy - found my leak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, yeah, one if my first videos, alittle too chill. I remade it alittle more entertaining, check it out ua-cam.com/video/os4DRY5Vg1o/v-deo.html
Music was great to! What's the band?
This guy is high as hell
What if you have dual exhaust? Do you need two shop vacs or could you get away with just sealing off the end of the other tailpipe?
Seal it
Only if it’s not true dual
the vacumm has to be on as if sucking What do you use is pure water or is it mixed with soap?
Wouldn’t the valves be open in 2 of the cylinders on that bank?
So what does that mean?
@@Rabbit.760 it means that the valves are open so the air being pumped through the exhaust can come out the intake and not build pressure.
New subscriber bro!!💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿😂😂😂
Always concerned it will blow all the rust and junk in exhaust, into my cylinders via exhaust value being opened on at least one of the cylinders.
Fair point, but I would imagine the pressure being so low it shouldn't be a real concern. If a valve were open there would be high pressure in the cylinder and any debris should want to follow the air out of the leak. Just my opinion, of course.

i have no bolts on that 6.0, how do i tighten it ?
Lol the music kicking in. This shit was oddly funny and helpful. Hoping I can just tighten a bolt as well
Wow pretty cool troubleshooting method
This exhaust sound must of not been that bad because that was a little leak?
You can do this before a cold start and don’t have to do all this work...
Was 80s rock leaking out of the motor?
Great Komment 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can a leak that small even affect your fuel trims or be a problem anyways?
Probably just noisy
Couldn’t that blow dust and debris into the motor? Seems like a good ideas but just seems iffy too. 😂
That's pretty bitchin! Thanks for the help. Get yourself an "exhaust manifold spreader" before you remove a manifold!!! It's an absolute must.
Thank you sir. If you have time please check out my latest loads , they could use some support. Thanks again.

Love the music

No code

I have to ask what are symptoms of having a leak in exhaust manifold ? Can u feel an odd buzzing vibration feeling on gas pedal when accelerating?
You can smell exhaust gas inside the cabin a few seconds after engine start
Genius
Awesome vid!
Love the Dokken back ground music
George Lynch
Thought it was Iron Maiden. Stranger in a Strange land at first..
Would that cause a weird idle ?
It the leak was very big, it could
this music has me fucking psyched up for doing my down pipe leak
Lol

Did you smell gas or something inside your car while your driving?
No you could just hear it
He is like my grandson a couple of norco 10’s and laid back.
Just to clarify, turn on shop vac in blower mode while engine is OFF? Thanks for the tip
yes
great video tip 🤘

In the Shadows - Ethan Meixsell
Bro perfect
So no worries about blowing exhaust crap back into the engine?
What's exhaust crap?
Cuz did some high shit lol, good work
Holly shit what song?
Satanicus - Bertysolo (instrumental) you can find it on soundcloud by Mackereldude
Blowing air into the tailpipe is gonna damage your cat , sensors and maybe your engine, pipe is one directional , but it’s your truck so as u please
Sweet Music😎
When I turn my car on the could see the exhaust manifold smoking a bit idk

Hope it helped
Song name please
Wonder if this will work on vacum hoses?

would need to be a big leak be for the first 02 sensor. what code you got. make, model , year?
