“If you’re echoing Hitler it really doesn’t matter whether you’re ripping him off or you got there own your own - you’re still echoing Hitler.” Beautifully said.
He echoes Stalin too. He calls the press the "enemy of the people", that's from Stalin.
@@jamesgardiner6749 Why don't you do a quick search in encyclopedias before telling wrong things?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enemy_of_the_people
@@jamesgardiner6749 Well, that's very true, however, press nowadays and back then is very different. The press now is crazy; just an angry mob of journalists. Back then, Stalin hated the press, specifically to spread Propoganda. Now, Propoganda is in our own Press, and it's in our Presidents' words. We can't ever really tell what is real or fake nowadays. We might thing we have the "golden" news channel, but even those are drenched with bias. I just take the advice that was told to me. Watch multiple sources and peice together what they are saying. Sadly, it's getting harder to do that, because we will just contradict the others' words, to make it seem that it isn't true, to make someone or something look better = The core of Propoganda. Just be careful what you watch and what you here. The news can make black look white, and white look black. At this point, all we have is each other. We can't let these people take over, (and take includes Trump). We need smart and educated people. People who are good leaders, and let's just stay away from the buissiness men (Biden and Trump). They both seem to be doing shady stuff, and I feel like if we had non-buissiness offiliated candidates, we would loose a lot of our "problems".
they are judging the eligibility of a candidate to be on the ballot based on CO law and the constitution. like checking an ID to see if they meet the age requirement, they looked at evidence and came to the obvious conclusion.
Facts.
*Reading* Mein Kampf isn't the issue. *Agreeing* with Mein Kampf is the issue.
absolutely
Agreeing with Putin is a pretty big issue as well.
Precisely!
@@notme2day Ain't that the truth!
Hoping that Santa will finally bring the pair of knee-high black leather boots he has always wanted. That is an issue.
In April 2016, Trump was asked by a reporter, "What was the last book you read?" He answered, "All quiet on the Western Front." That was true, I'm guessing. It was required reading when Trump was in high school. He hadn't read a book in 50 years!
You KNOW he read the 'Cliff's Notes' version if he read it at all.
Can the man read? I think he has someone read to him
@@denisegibler8742 I hear he is dyslexic. Takes Adderal.
@@denisegibler8742 if someone did read to him, it was likely a girl, so he could stare at her boobs the entire time, and not listen to a word she read.
Hitler despised that book..
The fact he pronounces Mein Kampf properly tells us everything.
I expect Roy Cohn might have schooled him on that one.
No it doesn't actually, but way to jump on the bandwagon
I Don’t think anybody is actually accusing Trump of reading a book so much as we’re accusing him of adopting the aesthetics and rhetoric of fascism.
Only Dolt45 would think that the reading part was the problem.
It would be no surprise if Trump is functionally illiterate and that Ivana actually had to read "Mein Kampf" to him because he insisted on it.
yeah he's perfectly capable of coming up with his terrible ideas from watching TV or surfing the Internet, or even on his own while sitting on the shitter, same way that most ignorant idiots and assholes do it. Nobody thinks he got these ideas from a book.
I'm still not sure if trump can read XD
He doesn't read books and he most likely never had heard of Mein Kampf until very recently
His first wife never said Trump read Mein Kampf, which is the book Hitler wrote in prison. She said the only book Trump ever read was a book of Adolf Hitler speeches, which is not actually Mein Kampf, but still shows someone who is inspired by Hitler. If anything, it is even more on brand with Trump, because it is someone being inspired by Hitler, while being unable to keep up with a long format book.
some of hitler's speeches were long enough to be books.
I'm not sure. I remember very specifically and very famously that she said that he had that specific book in his bedside. This wasn't very long ago.
Kinda like "Mein Kampf for Dummies"
@@user-md4di6yg2pGoebles' notes.
Thanks, John Brennan.
Trump name drops Putin like someone trying to casually bring up that they went to Harvard
The most intriguing aspect of Kelly's discussion about Hitler's relationship with the Wermacht generals was the claim that they attempted to assassinate him on three occasions.
I believe trump has never read Mein Kampf. He either:
1.Listened to the audiobook
2. Had Steven Miller read it to him (Miller knows is by heart)
3. Looked at the pictures in Mein Preschool Kampf
"had other people read bits of Mein Kampf to him" the process formerly known as "Twitter"
Didn't Ivana say he kept it on his bedside table? That's probably why she was pushed -- I mean fell -- down the stairs to her death.
Or read the Cliff Notes version "Hitler For Dummies".
I honestly don't think he has the attention span even for the audiobook lol
but I had a similar thought that Stephen Miller probably ghostwrites for him and snuck in some of his favorite quotes
The irony is that Stephen Miller is Jewish and he'd be off'd by the "not sees."
It is easy to believe Trump never read a book to be fair.
Not even the Cliff notes. Somebody gave him a short oral summary. That’s it.
He has listened to the audio book.
@@janicetribbiani7535 If Trump had anything to do with an oral summary, it was probably non-consensual
@@caronstout354I doubt it. He heard it from someone else, thought it was a good quote, and never looked into it.
Yeah, probably somebody read it to him.
Happy holidays, Seth & Co. Keep up the great work!
Happy New Year to all of you actually sane and literate people! Thank you for making me laugh while also keeping up with the US troubles ;)
Of course he never read it.
He paid someone to read it and they summarized it for him using colorful flash cards.
He found the audio book on the internet.
@@DarrenEden-ub4vjhe doesn't even have the attention span to listen to an audio book!
That's how son Barron learned how to draw barbed wire.
The ghoul Steven Miller has been tutoring Trump. As well as the Nazis he has entertained at MaraLago.
He just read the cliff notes on Hitler's speeches only!
Why anyone believed a guy who couldn't make 7 Casinos profitable would've made a good President is beyond comprehension.
I'm still flabbergasted how the people whose livelihoods suffered greatly from his shitty unprofitable casinos still voted for him
He won over the pro-rape Republicans with his bus tape.
escapism is all they have, and it's easy to ignore the faults & failures in their fave mediocre bigot when they're already in denial about themselves.
He's been a lifelong failure. Multiple bankruptcies, the casinos. Without lying, cheating and stealing he'd be living on the street. If it wasn't for his father he'd be nothing.
@@ButtFace--Biden And yet Trump is the one spouting racist white supremacist lines like "Immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country", almost word-for-word quoting Hitler. Or about how so many Republicans are banning and burning books. About how you conservative cultists are calling for violence against anyone who doesn't vote like you do. About how you call Dems and Dem voters "vermin".

"Notably, a 1990 Vanity Fair article resurfaced and was shared widely this week, containing a detail about Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump, who reportedly told her attorney that her husband kept a book of Hitler’s speeches by his bed."
It is very easy to imagine the young Trump watching those grainy black and white clips that appeared from time to time in 60s and 70s TV and movies, the ones where Hitler was standing on a podium and yelling into a microphone and a crowd cheering and saluting, and the young Trump, a rapidly developing narcissist and sociopath, got the idea for his rallies, (which are his favorite, favorite thing, even more than McDonald's,) Trump exists to be worshiped and loved by a crowd as he stirs them up to feel hate and violent urges toward a marginalized group, Trump didn't need to know German or have the text of Hitler's speeches, he got the idea...
I bet those pages are as sticky as the Bible he’s hawking.
Happy Holidays Seth and everyone at Closer Look 😂😂😂❤❤
FINALLY. I thought there would never be any mention of this EVER. I've been making this piece of information known since 2015 on YT and FB comments. According to a past interview with his first wife, Ivanka, in Vanity Fair, he has a copy of the speeches next to his bed.
Yes, the book of Hitler speeches was titled "My New Order". Note: his first wife was Ivana (not Ivanka). Separately but related: reporter Marie Brenner wrote that she noticed a book of Hitler’s speeches on his desk. Trump hated this story, and six months later, at a dinner party, Trump emptied a wine glass down the back of Brenner’s dress.
The Conservative Christians will say he was evangelizing those playmates 😂😂
Sure he was....

I can't bear the thought of two weeks without you. The time you were off during the writer's strike was downright depressing. It's hard enough to go from Friday to Monday without you. Sad holidays for me.
Same. Seth withdrawal😮 Peace!
Merry Christmas Seth and Happy New Year! Love the show.
Thank you for making sense of all the insanity and for making us laugh. Love you, Seth.
The best part of Kelly's schooling trump about Hitler's relationship to the Wermacht generals is when he told him that they tried to kill him on three different occasions.
😂
I thought it was way more than three times.
There were 42(the answer to the unasked question about the life, the universe, and everything) recognized plots possibly more. I doubt that there were many people writing down their plots to assassinate Hitler. I was only using the number that Kelly told trump.
If he had someone read it to him, then he's technically not lying that he "didn't read it." 😂
Nice try lol
honestly he probably just heard his dad quote it around the house
@@idunnowhatimdoin that'd be about all he heard out of his dad aside from "yeah, fine, but after I loan the $1m, don't talk to me"
He heard the words but didn't see them with his own eyes. Sorry, but he did not read "Mein Kampf" because he has no reading comprehension, which means he's functionally illiterate.
When does he ever not lie ?
Thank you Seth and Crew for a sensational year. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!
I know you're off for the holidays but could you at least do A Closer Look every day so when I feel gas lit by Republicans I can listen to you and know that we are not the crazy ones. Just a few minutes on your podcast with your brother? You're like therapy for me. My daughter and I are flying to Vegas to see your show with John Oliver! Can't wait!
Great mention of 1990 dictator speech. Also, he pronounced that book title much better than he pronounced The United Shtatshes
Not that it would have made a difference, but why didn't anyone bring up that article back in 2016?
@@d.b.4671 The people who voted for Trump would’ve voted for him anyway no matter what he would’ve done. Remember when in an election speech, he said that he could walk out onto a street in New York and shoot someone and it wouldn’t make any difference? He was right. All you have to do these days and say that you’re anti-immigration, anti-abortion, and Christian and you can get elected.
They did. This has always been a thing
I picked up on that too. He really emphasized the pronunciation.
The pronunciation of Mein Kampf is similar to the pronunciation of the Trump's ancestral name before his immigrant grandfather changed his name from Drumpf to Trump.
Seth worked his way through Snl and tv to get a coveted late night spot, just so he could back up and solidify an excuse he gave in 1990 to his parents. Great Long game.
Happy holidays to you and yours Seth, thank you for saying as oit is with so much humor !!
Merry Christmas and happy holidays Seth and the entire Late Night crew!
It's irrelevant if he has read it or not, he knows what he's saying and his people know what they are trying to convey to voters.
"I've never murdered and buried _any_ one, especially not in that spot over there.
Wait, why're you looking at me like I did in fact murder someone and bury them in that spot over there?"
Enjoy your time off, looking forward to next year's episodes from you and your great team. Happy birthday from your birthday buddy!
I believe him when he says he has never read Mein Kampf. I can't believe he can go through the reading of a whole book.
The way people behind Trump are holding those signs makes it seem as if they are about to pose for a mugshot.
Don't they just look overjoyed!
Well ... according to the new
gqp speaker of the house, Mike Johnson, the DOJ hasn't identified all the J6 insurrectionist yet soooo ...
Video proof that being pissed off all the time is bad for your health
It's obvious they are being paid to stand there and are hoping it's almost over.
The longer anyone spends around Trump, the more likely mugshot practice will pay off.
He may not have read Mein Kampf, but we all know Steven Miller sure in the hell has.
He was Adolf's ghost writer
I think he was more a vampire writer than a ghost writer.
One look at Steven Miller and I see Dachau.
Even if you've never heard him speak, any image you see of him makes you think this turd exudes creepiness from every pore on his body. I bet he would even creep out Jeffrey Epstien if they ever met. Until Epstien realized he was his long ignored spawn.
❤❤ thanks Seth!
Considering all the phrases he flubs on the regular he sure can pronounce and say mein kampf pretty damn well for a native English speaker.
Obviously the writing is top notch, but can we also appreciate Seth's deliveries - the impressions, flub recoveries, callbacks, teasing, and all around joy and fun. Thanks for a great year of shows and podcasts! 🐾🐾💙

Thank you! You nailed it.
I believe he has never read Mien Kampf. He just has an identical thought process, which is maybe more terrifying.
Not too long ago and very famously his ex-wife told everyone that he not only read the book but had it at his bedside. This was before any mentionings or parallels were being driven between the two and the media.
Evil shits like Bannon & Miller are feeding him that crap.
He and Republicans are even using ols nazi propaganda tricks, declaring someone the enemy of the people, fearmongering and brainwashing their voters.

Told my wife today (of 35 years) if he is able to be nominated again, because of a Supreme court ruling, and he becomes a president again, I am leaving America, with or without her and my family. I will not watch another dictator rule and go through what my ancestors did with Hitler. I will not go through that and watch history repeat itself again.
If you've found somewhere you're able to hide and not see any of it, let me know
do you have a place picked out ahead of time cause i remember looking up places when trump first won and all of those sites lagged because everyone had simillar thoughts.

I ask it as a intro/easy question on the unit test. Very few children get the answer wrong.
At 4:13 the guy in the background is having his personal "Kampf" against sleep. 🤣😂👍
2:00 I thought for sure Seth would jump at the opportunity to play that clip of Trump poorly singing the Green Acres theme song at the Emmy’s while wearing overalls and a straw hat with a pitchfork, such a shame lol

There are two reasons to read Mein Kampf. One is to see what his frame of mind was to keep it from happening again, and one is to get ideas on how to make it happen again.
Merry Christmas, Meyers family!
You're my favorite of all the night shows. There! I said it!
I find it interesting he specified Mein Kampf specifically, because his wife in the 80s said it wasn't that book, but the HOW-TO book hitler wrote while in prison donald loves.
That *was* _Mein Kampf._ He wrote most of the first volume while he was in Landsberg Prison following his arrest and conviction for treason after the Beer Hall Putsch.
@@johnopalko5223 mein kampf was his manifesto.....he ALSO wrote a how-i-did-it book.
@@SoManyRandomRamblings He wrote _Zweites Buch_ in 1928 which was before he came to power. He wrote his last will and testament while in the bunker before his death. His will included what is known as his Political Testament. Those were his only publications. _Zweites Buch_ was never published because _Mein Kampf_ was selling so poorly his publisher told him a sequel would only make it worse. While his Testament did discuss his motivations and his hopes for Germany following his death, I wouldn't call it a how-I-did-it narrative.

We can be smart. We can laugh . We can mock. How can we deal with the ignorance of his base? They respond to superstition and innuendo.
Met two of them this past summer when they were touring Victoria BC. Tossing their MAGA hats into Victoria Harbour upset them.
@@grahammcfadyenhill9555were they still in the hats?
That’s a good question. I think the saddest thing to come out of Trump being elected president was the knowledge that so many people in this country are so ignorant. It’s really scary. I remember when Ronald Reagan was elected, and I said to myself, this is the lowest point in US history, and then George W. Bush got elected, and I said to myself, anything could happen. And it did.
@@whitebirchtarot You described my disillusionment so well. I was too young to understand politics when Reagan took office, but each election cycle has been compounding evidence that people need to be educated on the very basics of politics, current issues, and the structure and functioning of our government. We don't need a bias in any direction, just a delivery of neutral facts to give our citizens a better foundation for decision making.
Start up a podcast where you deliver conspiracy theories but make them subversive enough that they will want to support/enact good policies.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Seth!
I actually believe him when he says, that he has never read a book 🤣
LOL, hard to be very erotic when it's only yourself in attendance. 😂 Still, witty and pointed video, as always. Thanks, and I hope your holidays were full of joy. ❤❤
“If you say it enough and keep saying it, they’ll start to believe you.” - Donald Trump
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” - Joseph Goebbels
Hauntingly similar, unfortunately! We need to make sure that Man never gets near the White House again!
"it's not a lie if YOU believe it." - George Costanza
Yes and he found an easily influenced following…..ready to believe the worst things possible.
The 2nd quote is attributed to Goebbels, but he likely didn't state that. Ironically, a description of the big.lie is in Mein Kampf. The Jewish Virtual Library org website explains the history behind the Mein Kampf excerpt. Worth a read to gain insight about the big lie as well as our current misinformation/disinformation world.
And Goebbels knew it, too. He was by training a philologist and later became chief propagandist for the Nazi Party, so he definitely knew a thing or two about language and how to manipulate it.🤔

When Donald Trump says he hasn't read Mien Kampf, it's the only thing he's ever said that I believe. I also believe that he can't read anything more complicated than a McDonald's menu.

I don't gamble, but I think it's a winning bet that trump was given the book to read by his father while he was pretty young, and it might be one of the very, very few books trump has ever read. Also, the phrase is pretty nearly gibberish in English, so the only way he could come upon it is by reading a German translation, or by having speech writers that lifted it from hitler, it's just not a phrase we use.
