@Gowaz Ar Interesting how it’s the other way around! In Japanese here she actually addresses everyone FIRST than changes to addressing just Link specifically.
She was a little annoying sometimes, but Skyward Sword was the first Zelda game I played, so Fi is my favorite. *Spoiler for those who have not played Skyward Sword* IT WAS SO SAD WHEN SHE WENT TO SLEEP!!

27:0027:18 The power in this scene makes Japanese better than English in my opinion. They both have their place, but THAT scene was what made my blood freeze. NOT the English version. That scream was what did it. Just...that scream.
It fits the scene if you ever seen people who survive a tragedy I expect it to be more like the Japanese cryings not the English crying. Here is why though 1st most of her friends and family are dead and she knows it. 2nd the castle is already under siege and being destroyed so she also lost her home. 3rd she lost the battle and perhaps the war and she has no idea how to finish the fight up. Her body language and her expression does not match what the voice is suppose to be. Other then that she did a great job as Zelda.
I got to say that I much prefer this version. So much more raw emotion (Zelda's breakdown near the end had me in tears, unlike the English version). I also think that in the English version it's so obviously Americans trying to emulate British accents and kinda failing at it, so it's a relief to listen to this version and not having to cringe at all the slip ups. Also the fact that the dialogue matches up perfectly with the lip sync is a big plus for me too. I mean I do like the English version, don't get me wrong, but next time... hire some actual English people, for the love of God.
tymki I am still at such confusion why they would even have them have british accents, they're not from Britain, just cuz they're royalty doesn't automatically mean british.
@@ZeldadragonBlade Well it's anime. Not just harem. But most anime has at least this type of voice for some girl, protag or not. Ik it's 3 years but you're spouting some dumb shit
This is why the mouthes don't match up with the English version, they fit perfectly in Japanese. But they're a little odd in English because the animation was made for the Japanese voices. I can't believe I didn't notice that before.
Theres a chance that they might not have been able to do a direct translation due to the lip flaps needing to match. Maybe there are more syllables for dont die in japanese then in english for something.
as much as i love her english voiceactor, for the part when everything goes to shit i like the japanese dub better. zelda's crying and despair sounds more legit in this dub, even if more childish. also, didn't she say "father" here and "the king" in the english dub? that's interesting.
Revali's voice is so much better in english if you ask me.. The english voice actor for him truly sounds like a highly confident character that loves to be an ass towards people he sees as lessers. My take on it, atleast
Joel Kim True ignore the whiny English dub fanbrat who thinks they are entitled to bash and try to bully anyone who likes the true version! Since Hylian is based on Japanese, that would mean they are in actuality speaking Hylian pretty much here! Anyone who actually does their proper research would know this showing that the other guy knows nothing about Zelda.
I hate the English voice of Zelda, it's so bad. It's a terrible accent and it kind of seems like she's making her voice higher on purpose. Just really bad.
This Zelda princess is easily my favorite. Her Japanese voice is beyond perfect, flawless performance.Character design, expression, emotional element are just too good for a video game.
really? damn i wish i could feel the same because shes in most of the memories and i find her beyond annoying which makes these memories a lot less enjoyable
I love Link so much he’s so cool! And when Zelda cries he tries to assure her and he tries to not cry either even though he feels the same about his friends dying
For anyone complaining about zelda's cry, the japanese version focuses more on everyone dying rather than her failiure so it makes sense that she is scream-crying
Funny thing is it's not really a "dub" since the JP voice is the original voice, after all the script was written in Japanese 1st to be voiced in Japanese 1st.
28:58 When Zelda first hears the Master Sword, for a brief second she's not sure she really heard "it" but then it speaks to her again. In the Japanese version, she seems to repeat/mirror what the sword says "he can be saved", and she answers back to the sword: "Link..?". I Love this so much because it look like an actual conversation. In the English Dub, it seems more like a deduction on Zelda's part because the sword it's glowing rather than she repeating back what the sword says.
I like both the English and Japanese voices. They all fit well with their characters. And this is coming from a person who watches mostly English subbed anime and the occasional dubbed.
Call me a weeaboo but I like Zelda's Japanese voice better than her English voice actress. I won't rain on her parade though, I'd be stoked to be a voice actor in the best Zelda game.
It's only natural to like more the true, original version instead dub that has nothing to do with source culture and original creators. Any sane person is using original voices for foreign media.
You, uh, guys do realize that the english subs are actually from the english dub? I was actually watching the english dub and the subtitles are exactly the same and it matches what they say in the english dub. XD ua-cam.com/video/PMP_M39rpkw/v-deo.html
Anyone with the most basic understanding of Japanese can hear that at 28:37, Zelda is saying "please don't die" (お願い死なないで, onegai shinanaide) which is pretty much the opposite of "you're going to be just fine."
I believe it’s pretty common for the English dubs to add words over parts that were just sounds or even just silent. I think it just has to do with different ways of expression, Japanese is very contextual and some emotions are conveyed with just a look or a grunt, which I guess is unnatural to English audiences.
Thank you so much for uploading this. I just finished finding all the memories myself and afterwards I wanted so much to know what they sounded like in the original Japanese. Far better. I really wish they gave the option to switch the language in the Western release..
I wish they gave an option to select whatever audio you want. There are more languages than just English and Japanese, and as far as I know they're all included in the game, but you're blocked off choosing, have to stick with whatever language the Switch is set to. I don't know why videogame companies keep doing this.
I always find it cool to see how much the dialogue changes when switching languages. Since this is an overlay of the English it isn’t exactly a “translation” of what’s being said (but obviously the same things being conveyed) e.g. people bringing up the Revali scene. cool video :) that’s for doing this!
Looks like Annie Leonhart decided to get a new haircut and become a princess with darkness sealing powers lol. I guess that female titan life just wasn't for her!
The scene where Link is down and the Master Sword shines, it's implied Zelda can hear Fi's voice in the Japanese dialogue. Like she's repeating what she heard said. Feels like it was translated by people who didn't understand the lore. The English dialogue makes it sound like Zelda is coming up with something, instead of Fi telling her something.
Not some people complaining about Zelda's cry. Bruh, she lost all her friends and her father and felt like a failure, like how tf did you expected her to cry?
The one that's *really* improved by being in Japanese is the Despair cutscene; both make me sob, but in JP you can hear the utter pain and sorrow in her voice, I can't understand what she's saying, but I can damn well feel it Also the subtitles help, yay!

I am not even saying that he SHOULD talk, I am just commenting on how they did a terrible job making these cut scenes actually feel natural.
Personally, I think Zelda's English voice is just... bad. She is 17 years old (117 but she looks young and is thicc af so shut up) yet her voice actor is clearly way above that age, this is normal, however, making a fake voice and topping that off with a fake accent just does not work.
The bird dude is better in English, as for zelda I think the voices are about equal between english and japanese. The goron champion is hands down better in Japanese, and the desert chick is better in japanese.
I've always found it interesting how different the Japanese and English voice actors for Zelda are. They chose someone who sounded more regal and mature for the English, but by comparison she sounds so girlish in the Japanese. They give off completely different vibes, changing the feel of the character quite a bit.

I mean, yeah she was annoying in game but she still really touched my heart and I love her so much knowing she's always been in the sword from Skyward onward, especially the fact they gave her a lot of nods in this game
Er mer gerd you read my mind!
"Master, the batteries in your remote are low." So Fi is here to stay I guess lol. But my feels tho. Hit hard bruh.
yeah except after 100 years of waiting the first thing she tries to do is kill you.
Zelda speaks 100% formal japanese.
Revali is boastful as usual
Link: HA HUH HEYAAAH
Well excuuuuuuuse me princess
27:00 27:18 The power in this scene makes Japanese better than English in my opinion. They both have their place, but THAT scene was what made my blood freeze. NOT the English version. That scream was what did it.
Just...that scream.
She sounded like a whale xD
sounding like a screaming baby in the japanese and more of a refined woman in the english version
lol yeah cause in the midst of having your world destroyed you gotta worry about being a refined woman.
Qinni yes of course if you are princess and have been raised that way your entire life!! You wouldn't just change ur personality
Everyone says zeldas cry is too dramatic but bruh she just saw her kingdom friends and family die who WOULDNT cry like that
I don't speak the language very well but I can tell you there is allot more emotion put I to the Japanese than English
My rating:
Zelda: Equal
Revali: EN
Daruk: JP
Urbosa: JP
Mipha: Equal
King: JP
I don't think the English actors were bad, just poorly directed

Oh hi again remember me from Nesis video
Hope to see you again in another Zelda vid XD
I got to say that I much prefer this version. So much more raw emotion (Zelda's breakdown near the end had me in tears, unlike the English version). I also think that in the English version it's so obviously Americans trying to emulate British accents and kinda failing at it, so it's a relief to listen to this version and not having to cringe at all the slip ups.
Also the fact that the dialogue matches up perfectly with the lip sync is a big plus for me too.
I mean I do like the English version, don't get me wrong, but next time... hire some actual English people, for the love of God.
tymki Zelda's Japanese VA makes her sound like she is from a generic harem anime.
tymki I am still at such confusion why they would even have them have british accents, they're not from Britain, just cuz they're royalty doesn't automatically mean british.
@@ZeldadragonBlade your dumb af every anime girl sounds like that not just harem

13:27 link's 'eeh' is too cute

Wow really? That's crazy!

English: "Link! Get up!"
Come on, really?

The English sub are the same than the English dialogue, that’s for that
well to be honest nintendo of america can't really use the word death since they are scene as children's company in the west.
@@josemoreno-ux8ri the scene before that Zelda LITERALLY Said: I’ve left them all to die
Theres a chance that they might not have been able to do a direct translation due to the lip flaps needing to match. Maybe there are more syllables for dont die in japanese then in english for something.
as much as i love her english voiceactor, for the part when everything goes to shit i like the japanese dub better. zelda's crying and despair sounds more legit in this dub, even if more childish. also, didn't she say "father" here and "the king" in the english dub? that's interesting.
space prince she sounds like a generic anime girl from a harem anime in the Japanese version.
Sorry I like English better there are some started things that I like in Japanese and certain things I prefer English
@@ZeldadragonBlade your mom is a generic anime harem girl so I don’t doubt you know what that means.
Revali's voice is so much better in english if you ask me.. The english voice actor for him truly sounds like a highly confident character that loves to be an ass towards people he sees as lessers. My take on it, atleast
Alexander Nikolai that's true
So truee😂😂
Agree for the past 3 years no one disagree because you sir are correct
Yea
I agree but Revali has more depth to his character in the Japanese version instead of just being a rude bird.
28:32
original japanese: don't die! please don't die!
english translation: you're going to be just fine..
When Zelda cries... Oh my god, that's raw emotion
Lol. SO MUCH BETTER in Japanese than English. The Zelda actress is amazing.
If by amazing you mean whiny, then great!
Cat and Monkey Gaming dumb ass. 👀
the zora arc alone is 10x better then the dub. christ that was heart wrenching.
Her voice is the same as Annie of Attack on Titan
I love Link so much he’s so cool! And when Zelda cries he tries to assure her and he tries to not cry either even though he feels the same about his friends dying
For anyone complaining about zelda's cry, the japanese version focuses more on everyone dying rather than her failiure so it makes sense that she is scream-crying
Did anyone like, really, DESPERATELY want Link to say "WELL EXCUUUUUUUUSE ME, PRINCESS!" at some point? 07:30 would've been pretty perfect.
Ryan Barrett yes! I was ultra done with her.
Such a video exist
I've watched these memories so many times I don't even need the subs anymore. Makes you feel like you're actually smart and know Japanese
Princess Zelda's Japanese dub voice sounds way better than that attempt at a British accent they gave us in the English dub
Funny thing is it's not really a "dub" since the JP voice is the original voice, after all the script was written in Japanese 1st to be voiced in Japanese 1st.
Meh, it sounds like every anime girl ever. No uniqueness.

Mipha's and Zelda's voices are sooo much better in the japanese dub. But for the others I kind of prefer the english one.
Mipha’s Japanese voice is so cute
Link in Japanese is Better than Link in English.

I prefer Zelda, Mipha and Sidon in Japanese but others in English😂
Especially Link's. His voice in the English dub was amazing

Nozomi-Chan Xx I believe he was made less arrogant in the english version. Those who are wind themed are most likely to be stuck up.
I like how Fi is still just chilling in there. lol
Where?
“Master, Get up damnit.”
I heard that the VA of Zelda is also Annie in Attack on Titan. That's pretty awesome!
o shit you right
instant 10/10 for me
That's precisely why I'm back here. (And, not because the Link from the first Hyrule Warriors is the Attack Titan.)
The moment Zelda cried I was like: HOLY SHIT MY HEART! That went through my whole body.
Zelda is a lot better in Japanese
More power to you if you like standard whiny Asian soap opera crying over the standard more subtle Western crying.
+Cat and Monkey Gaming In my opinion, the western crying is unrealistic
And I'm Chinese. I can speak both English and Japanese.
Zelda sounds like she came from a harem anime in Japanese.
Just because of the voice and 100% despair
28:58 When Zelda first hears the Master Sword, for a brief second she's not sure she really heard "it" but then it speaks to her again. In the Japanese version, she seems to repeat/mirror what the sword says "he can be saved", and she answers back to the sword: "Link..?". I Love this so much because it look like an actual conversation. In the English Dub, it seems more like a deduction on Zelda's part because the sword it's glowing rather than she repeating back what the sword says.
Best voice acting= The Hot-Footed frog Zelda caught.
Interesting fact the actress who voices Zelda in the Japanese dub also voices Zelda in Skyward Sword.
I like both the English and Japanese voices. They all fit well with their characters. And this is coming from a person who watches mostly English subbed anime and the occasional dubbed.

English version is not very expressive, she sounds a little boring to losten to in my opinion and too mature
It's only natural to like more the true, original version instead dub that has nothing to do with source culture and original creators. Any sane person is using original voices for foreign media.
It bothers me that the words that are being said doesn't match the subtitles lol
Same here
HTakara82 it's average
You, uh, guys do realize that the english subs are actually from the english dub? I was actually watching the english dub and the subtitles are exactly the same and it matches what they say in the english dub. XD
ua-cam.com/video/PMP_M39rpkw/v-deo.html
Anyone with the most basic understanding of Japanese can hear that at 28:37, Zelda is saying "please don't die" (お願い死なないで, onegai shinanaide) which is pretty much the opposite of "you're going to be just fine."
If you type hahahahahahaha into google translate, it comes back with JP->EN: "Good luck sealing the darkness!" - spot on!
3:22 wait, how did that become "good luck sealing the darkness!"????
Snipester Pendragon A few months late, but yeah… I was wondering the same thing. Maybe it was an ad lib. by the English voice actor? I don’t know.
Idk why but i think it's better in English
Probably to show that Revali (Reval in Japanese) was meant to be sarcastic during that remark. But yeah, that's still kind loose.
I believe it’s pretty common for the English dubs to add words over parts that were just sounds or even just silent. I think it just has to do with different ways of expression, Japanese is very contextual and some emotions are conveyed with just a look or a grunt, which I guess is unnatural to English audiences.
Because shitty translators.
Thank you so much for uploading this. I just finished finding all the memories myself and afterwards I wanted so much to know what they sounded like in the original Japanese. Far better. I really wish they gave the option to switch the language in the Western release..
Fuck off weeb
You can change your language settings on the Switch menu.
I wish they gave an option to select whatever audio you want. There are more languages than just English and Japanese, and as far as I know they're all included in the game, but you're blocked off choosing, have to stick with whatever language the Switch is set to.
I don't know why videogame companies keep doing this.
It's being patched in now!
297fihsy wait really?
I always find it cool to see how much the dialogue changes when switching languages. Since this is an overlay of the English it isn’t exactly a “translation” of what’s being said (but obviously the same things being conveyed) e.g. people bringing up the Revali scene. cool video :) that’s for doing this!
Japanese: Please don’t die!
English: You aight
I love Urbosa's japanese voice. It fits well.
Looks awesome in japanese, only Urbosa's english voice sounds better to me! Thanks for that FateAwaits :)
Looks like Annie Leonhart decided to get a new haircut and become a princess with darkness sealing powers lol. I guess that female titan life just wasn't for her!
27:04 The reason why I got the voice DLC. The voice acting is absolutely amazing. Almost made ME cry.
So sad make me cry
The scene where Link is down and the Master Sword shines, it's implied Zelda can hear Fi's voice in the Japanese dialogue. Like she's repeating what she heard said. Feels like it was translated by people who didn't understand the lore. The English dialogue makes it sound like Zelda is coming up with something, instead of Fi telling her something.
Fun fact: The voice of Zelda in Japanese is also Haruka/Flora, the leader of Go Princess Precure
I can always recognize the “big tough guy,” “skinny tough guy” and “tough lady” anime voices.

Her cuteness scale just went off the roof with the Japanese dub with her energetic voice!
Kind of awkward when Link still doesn't talk...
not really. I hope that Nintendo will keep it that way for future games.
I'm just saying having him stand there silent while everyone else talks normally is extremely strange.
If you played the game and read Zelda's diary it explains why Link remains silent. He talks to Zelda, not in any of the cut scenes, though.
That's my point... If you don't understand how it isn't weird that Link stands silent like a mute for thirty minutes, while the rest of the characters treat it like its normal, than there is something wrong with you. I am not even saying that he SHOULD talk, I am just commenting on how they did a terrible job making these cut scenes actually feel natural.
At least the Japanese dub is still 10 times better than the English.
bro when he said “ *ゴ YaRe YaRe ゴ* ” I felt that
So much better in Japanese than English.....especially Zelda
kronic66 Well what did you expect her to sound like?
Especially Zelda is better in English IMHO... and I am a weeabo lol.
RParente_VA zelda just sounds like waifu material in the Japanese dub..
28:33-28:38 she actually said don’t die instead of get up
Japanese is such a beautiful language. This version of the cutscenes is far superior to the English version.
I've always found it interesting how different the Japanese and English voice actors for Zelda are. They chose someone who sounded more regal and mature for the English, but by comparison she sounds so girlish in the Japanese. They give off completely different vibes, changing the feel of the character quite a bit.
Just discovered Zelda's japanese voice actor is the same as Haruno Haruka/Cure Flora from precure!!! They're two of my favourite characters ever, I'm so happy to having discover this!!
Mipha’s voice sounds exactly like typical a little sister or childhood friend in Japanese anime
10:59 That's the moment, my fellas.... Tresaure it.
