    • @un4039
      @un4039 7 років тому +32

      Yeah, not sure why they chose that route. It's a lot easier to edit mouth flaps in a video game than it is in, say, an animated series. Would've really improved the quality of the voice acting, too.

    • @Shwaggie33
      @Shwaggie33 6 років тому +102

      Well, since it originated in Japan, they most likely dubbed it in Japanese first, and then created the mouth movements for the game in regards to the Japanese voices. They then created the English dialogue that would fit in the time frame for the amount of time that each character speaks and what needs to be said based on the Japanese verses.

      @42Caio 7 років тому +53

      Yeah. I actually prefer Zelda's English voice tone and accent to the Japanese (she sounds pretty bland in my opinion), but the English VA seems completely unable to act any stronger emotions. Seems to be a problem with English voice acting in general to be honest, barring the very good professionals, English dubs simply can't pull off convincing crying or screaming. Don't know if it's because again, barring a few, Voice Actors in america are treated as third-rate actors and thus very few good actors stay in voice acting, or if it is a direction issue. But often that's where most English dubs fall flat.

    • @malcovich_games
      @malcovich_games 7 років тому +14

      The Japanese crying is worse, because it's whiny overacting, and it kills the mood. The western crying is more subtle, you can feel the person trying not to bawl, but it's just coming out.

      For people complainging: that can't really be avoided, some things said in Japanese really wouldn't make sense when translated into English.
      So there will be differences between what's said in Japanese and what you'll read in English, there really is no way around it.
      Things can sound amazing, or dramatic or whatever in Japanese and it'll be weak when translated into English, same can be the case for translating other way around.
      That said, while I definitely prefer the Japanese voice acting, I absolutely agree that it can be annoying read something completely different than what's being said.
      I can't say I agree with people who think the English voice acting is cringey though, imho the Japanese voice acting sounds more powerful and has more emotion to it but the English voice acting is by no means bad.

      It fits the scene if you ever seen people who survive a tragedy I expect it to be more like the Japanese cryings not the English crying. Here is why though 1st most of her friends and family are dead and she knows it. 2nd the castle is already under siege and being destroyed so she also lost her home. 3rd she lost the battle and perhaps the war and she has no idea how to finish the fight up. Her body language and her expression does not match what the voice is suppose to be. Other then that she did a great job as Zelda.

    I got to say that I much prefer this version. So much more raw emotion (Zelda's breakdown near the end had me in tears, unlike the English version). I also think that in the English version it's so obviously Americans trying to emulate British accents and kinda failing at it, so it's a relief to listen to this version and not having to cringe at all the slip ups.
    Also the fact that the dialogue matches up perfectly with the lip sync is a big plus for me too.
    I mean I do like the English version, don't get me wrong, but next time... hire some actual English people, for the love of God.

In the Japanese version, she seems to repeat/mirror what the sword says "he can be saved", and she answers back to the sword: "Link..?". I Love this so much because it look like an actual conversation. I believe it’s pretty common for the English dubs to add words over parts that were just sounds or even just silent. I think it just has to do with different ways of expression, Japanese is very contextual and some emotions are conveyed with just a look or a grunt, which I guess is unnatural to English audiences.

      I wish they gave an option to select whatever audio you want. There are more languages than just English and Japanese, and as far as I know they're all included in the game, but you're blocked off choosing, have to stick with whatever language the Switch is set to.
      I don't know why videogame companies keep doing this.

    I always find it cool to see how much the dialogue changes when switching languages. Since this is an overlay of the English it isn’t exactly a “translation” of what’s being said (but obviously the same things being conveyed) e.g. people bringing up the Revali scene. cool video :) that’s for doing this!

    The scene where Link is down and the Master Sword shines, it's implied Zelda can hear Fi's voice in the Japanese dialogue. Like she's repeating what she heard said. Feels like it was translated by people who didn't understand the lore. The English dialogue makes it sound like Zelda is coming up with something, instead of Fi telling her something.

      If you played the game and read Zelda's diary it explains why Link remains silent. He talks to Zelda, not in any of the cut scenes, though.

    • @blackenblood21
      @blackenblood21 7 років тому +12

      That's my point... If you don't understand how it isn't weird that Link stands silent like a mute for thirty minutes, while the rest of the characters treat it like its normal, than there is something wrong with you. I am not even saying that he SHOULD talk, I am just commenting on how they did a terrible job making these cut scenes actually feel natural.

      Personally, I think Zelda's English voice is just... bad. She is 17 years old (117 but she looks young and is thicc af so shut up) yet her voice actor is clearly way above that age, this is normal, however, making a fake voice and topping that off with a fake accent just does not work.

    I've always found it interesting how different the Japanese and English voice actors for Zelda are. They chose someone who sounded more regal and mature for the English, but by comparison she sounds so girlish in the Japanese. They give off completely different vibes, changing the feel of the character quite a bit.
