This is what the meaning of Bruce Lee said,
It's like a finger pointing to the moon
.. Don't focus on the finger (rigidity of the form) or you'll miss all the heavenly bodies (true essence and feeling of your own karate) ..
Don't think, feel. That is what Sensei Rick Hotton is teaching us in this video.
    Oss!

It's the speed and power that I find so impressive. That snap, a focus of delivery that's so difficult to master. Thank you for sharing.

Having met, trained with, experienced. These are some of the top tier karateka i've had the pleasure of acquaintence:
    Richard Amos- 8dan
    Steve uble- 8dan
Scott langley- 7dan, Former kumite champion.
    Scott middleton-7dan
    Kai Johannesen-6dan
    Thomas Nilsen-6dan
    Rick Hotton-5dan
    Ernst Brimsøe-5dan
Wayne Otto Obe-5dan, former multiple international kumite champion.
Morten Alstadsæther- 3dan, former multiple national kumite champion.
Without mentioning all the "titles" above, without mentioning the "uknown" gems i've also had the pleasure of training shotokan with, not forgetting (Different martial art practitioners), having been in Thailand and China, training with former champion such as Ramon Dekkers (with respect, Rip), etc.
Out of all these mentioned/unmentioned: Rick Hotton, per weight measure felt the most heavy after being disposed as a live dummy a couple of times here i Norway. He's a true practitioner of the old way of karate: ( The art of killing with one blow) or what i like to call it: The art of knocking out with one blow, no blood, little to no marks. Clean.
Relaxed heaviness, tried and proven. Truly, an empirical way to follow through with one's technique. Respectfully, this is the way. As an art.
My best regards to you Rick Hotton for sharing your perspective onto others, i do hope our paths will cross again someday.
    "Unknown Norwegian"....

I think that Rick Hotton Sensei is so correct when he talks about "your own" karate. The particular styles we train in, be it Shotokan, Goju, Uechi-ryu, Wado, etc, are frameworks that we train within, but they cannot limit us. Good teachers will allow each karate-ka to show "their own" karate within the general framework that is meaningful and functional for that person.

This is great to see breaking, the mould of tradition. Although I would say high level Karateka would probably more subconsciously do this .
The difference with this Sensei is that he is 100 % aware of it. 🤜🤛
At the end of the the day energy follows intention 👍
