Hi Odile it's always interesting to see which brands are actually popular in Korea, as compared to the Korean brands popular in the West. Seeing them applied is really useful too. I'm a fitzpatrick one so white cast isn't as much of an issue for me, unless it's thick/pasty. Having rosacea and eczema I have to be very careful with chemical filters and yet mineral filters can be very drying, so a description of whether they're drying, have fragrance etc is really useful for me. Many thanks.
Dr.G green mild-up sun+ is a must-try for oily skin. My skin doesn’t get oily at all during the day. Dr. G brightening up sun+ is good for oily skin as well, the best tone-up sunscreen I’ve ever tried, and it doesn’t leave a pinkish white cast. I’ve been trying a lot of sunscreens but I ended up repurchasing Dr.G green mild-up sun+ (I finished 5 tubes of this sunscreen and now I'm on the 6th tube, I’ve been using it since the old version with no “+” sign )and the brightening up sun+ as well. People with oily skin should give this sunscreen a try.
@@lucyjames8818 Yes, but if you have dry/combo skin make sure to moisturize your skin before applying the sunscreen. this sunscreen feels very light on the skin, not oily or greasy, if you live in a hot humid weather country you will like it. Great for summer (Dr.G green mild up / brightening up sun + version).
FINALLY. Someone is giving love to Dr. G sunscreens. Love it. I'm also a huge fan of Dr. G but i realised that not many people are talking about it. The sunscreens are all elegant finish and AMAZING. Thank you for this content. ♥️♥️
Awesome! I tried the Mild Up Sun, after you recommended it in one your previous videos, and although I was very impressed with its lack of white cast and ease of wear, it’s finish is too matte for my dry skin. However it made me curious about other sunscreens from the brand. Thanks for the great content.
Your videos are always so relaxing and helpful . Dr.G should definitely be sponsoring you for making quality content like this. Thank you . Btw that hairstyle is really pretty on you :)
This is such a wonderful guide, each points you mentioned for each versions is so pertinent, thank you so much for this video! I don't understand how a brand like this isn't more popular in the west... I would be curious of your hypothesis on why that is... ^^
Most of the good stuff aren’t popular in the west. And any one of them that gets directly imported , well the formulas changes making it not as good again. And out of the literal two high end ones , westerners aren’t buying them.
@R.C. I figured, but it makes me wonder why they don't try to promote their products towards the western market as well.. do they think the western peeps wouldn't be interested in it?
Simply put, many brands don't think the current figures are worth investing in the Western market. If you look at the statistics of the top importers of K-beauty, you'll see that they round up to around 12% of the global K-Beauty sales, everything else comes from Asian counties with China being the most important foreign market for Korean beauty brands twitter.com/odilemonod/status/1506217249698619398?t=zURU7VcGLu2aefGq-QIA1Q&s=19 The brands that decide to target the foreign market simply do so because they don't have enough market share in Asia 🧐
DR G Mild Sun is my ALL TIME favorite sunscreen!! Just by chance I purchased on amazon not knowing anything about it and to date, have not find another sunscreen that can exceed this formula. Tho I did notice the price went up quit a bit ( prob because now it’s finally gaining some popularity that has been long over due) but I am still willing to pay more for this. They changed their formula a year ago, and so I find the new formula a lot more moisturizing and less dry (which is a good thing). Thank you for explaining all their other sunscreen products since it is really confusing. I really want to try the Birdie one since the Mild Sun+ is not strong enough to wear through summer/sweat. BTW, is the this sunscreen you wear daily ? Or you have even a better one that you like. Thank you for the detailed review and you never disappoint!
You provide the best Korean beauty content on UA-cam. This video was so well executed and informative. I've been trying to decide which ones to try. This just sealed it for me. Thank you so much 💗
I was actually thinking about this the other day since I was wondering what the difference between the Mild Up and Blemish Soothing Up was! I'll probably try all of the Dr G chemical sunscreens now, they seem too good!
I finally tried Dr G Green Mild Up Sun+. I finally understand the hype around it. It's great for my eczema and acne prone skin and its white cast is only subtle and mildy complimenting for my Asian skin. Too bad it's like double the original South Korean price due to import. I might ask my mom to send some from Korea.
Odile, valuable video as always. Thank you for going beyond your profound research and taking on the painstaking task of translating for us the ingredients of each sunscreen. Looking forward to trying a few of them!
Thank You for the info. Since this sunscreen brand is 1 of the most popular ones in Korea why none of it is water resistant? Is there a reason for that? Thanks again for sharing/educating Korean beauty products to us, greatly appreciated … 🙏😍
Thank you ❤️ Dr.G is a brand originally started by a renowned dermatology clinic in Korea, their products are especially popular among people with sensitive skin because the brand's philosophy is to combine targeted treatments with a special focus on general skin health rather than simply "attacking" it with high percentages of actives. I think (but it’s just an assumption on my end) they didn't feel the need to launch a water resistant sunscreen because these are usually marketed only for outdoor use in Korea and they also have the disadvantage of being hard to remove compared to a daily sunscreen, so as a brand that mostly caters to sensitive skin I think they might have felt waterproof sunscreens were not really "on brand" for them. If you're interested in knowing the most popular waterproof sunscreen in Korea, I talked about it last summer on my video on my top sunscreens, it's Hera's Sun Mate Leports. It's been a bestseller for over 15 years (as you can see from this "proof" I recently found in a second-hand shop twitter.com/odilemonod/status/1517824593880182784?t=p57LC6HXFd0W1OV_bwkrhQ&s=19) and before Dr.G made waves with their sunscreens, Hera was dubbed as "Korea's National sunscreen brand" (국민선크림). Personally I find that Dr.G's rise to fame is an interesting reflection of the increasing focus on sensitive skin in Korean beauty. In the early 2010 it was all about products with great sensoriality, hence Hera used to be the flagship brand for sunscreens 😁
I was interested in the Red Blemish Soothing Up Sun until I realized it has niacinamide. My skin can't handle niacinamide and so many Korean sunscreens have it nowadays 😭 Green Mild Up Sun+ is already on my to-try list. Hopefully Dr.G will come up with a sunscreen that is water-resistant too.
I love your red blemish recommendations - the essence and the cream. I also got the emulsion because I just love trying products. I’m sad that you removed the original dr. G mild sun up video. :(
Thank you so much for this fabulous guide! So informative 😍😍😍 As you already know, I'm also a big fan of Dr.G sunscreens and thanks to you, my wishlist this year got even bigger 😂😂😂 I'm so tempted to get the Nice Birdy one. I see Koreans using such a small amount of sunscreen on their face without reapplying when in western countries people use 1/4 tsp amount and reapply it throughout the day. And I don't even see people take sunscreen that seriously but use it as just prevention of UVB aka tan, anti-pigmentation, and tone up. I don't remember someone mentioning skin cancer when talking about sunscreen. Why do you think this is the case?
According to the Korea Central Cancer Registry (KCCR), the incidence rate of skin cancer in Korea is really low - in 2019 there were only 1,344 cases of skin cancer in Korea, making up for a 2.6% incidence rate (Korean source cancer.snuh.org/info/classification/list21.do?searchType=&tab=1&seq_no=43).
10 years ago the incidence rate was even lower (around 1.5%) so the health authorities are trying to spread awareness on skin cancer in response to the increasing number of cases, but it’s still very much a rare condition in Korea. So you are right indeed, people in Korea use sunscreen mostly for beauty-related reasons.
This is purely anecdotal, but from speaking to some Korean women in my office, it seems many of them think the UV protection in their makeup is enough for touch ups during the day and, considering they hardly ever get direct sun exposure, I can see why it works for them.
HI Odile, have you used The Face Shop Power Lasting Sun Cream SPF 50+ PA+++ (Beige)? If you did, how would you compare the tint and finish to Dr G Brightening Up Sun?
Dr. G Brightening up the sun is more lightweight and leaves a matte finish. The texture is very similar to Green Mild up+ (good for ladies or high schoolers who don't like to do make up every day, this sunscreen gives a slight coverage, and your skin won’t get oily during the day )
Agree with Molika! The Power Lasting Sun Cream is a proper BB Cream in a sunscreen form, it has a little bit more coverage and it's more hydrating. As much as I like the formula in general, I've always found it tricky to apply the appropriate amount so I ended using it as a bb cream on top of another sunscreen 🤔
