- Welcome to Passion For Dogs! As the name of my channel suggests, I am highly passionate for dogs which has rooted since my childhood and comes naturally to me. This video is dedicated to my furbaby Dazzler ❤️ who passed to the other side not too long ago. It is due to him that I gained the food and nutrition knowledge related to dogs and I would like to share that and other knowledge and tips related to dogs with all you dog lovers and pet parents out there ❤️.
This video is for a healthy homemade dog food recipe that I made for my senior dog. It is a detailed step by step video but the ingredients list and other items that I use are listed below for quick reference. NOTE: I had a senior dog so recipe in the video is according to it BUT for an adult active healthy dog it is suggested that one gives 50-80% protein (including 5-10% organ meat) and rest veggies/fruits/carbs. So in this recipe one would DOUBLE (look for * indicator) all meat and eggs and cut the rice and sweet potatoes by HALF (look for ** indicator) to adjust the quantities.
48oz 90% Lean ground turkey (or other lean protein)**
4oz Chicken Livers**
4 Eggs**
8 cups Sweet potatoes***
8 cups Brown rice cooked*** (or oatmeal or quinoa)
8 cups Vegetables and Fruits combined (2 red bell peppers and 2 apples each time and rest can be switched)
6 tsp Egg shell powder
2 tsp Ginger powder
2 tsp Turmeric powder
2 tsp Himalayan Pink Salt (or Kelp powder)
Ingredients to add after switching off stove:
1 tbsp Pumpkin Puree per day X number of days of food for your dog
1 tsp Fish Oil per day X number of days of food for your dog
Supplements:

Probiotics supplement (if needed) -- amzn.to/3qdPed7

Thank you for getting straight to it... most people talk way too much before getting started
YW
Good recipe. You might want to add the egg shells too. They need to be put through a coffee grinder or magic bullet until very fine/powdered. 1/2 tsp. per pound of food.
Thank you for your comment. Yes, I do add egg shell powder. It is listed as one of the ingredients in the description. Thanks.
Thanks very much for sharing this wonderful recipe for our dogs and for all your caring information!

Hi again! Well, it took me two hours, but I got it done! Just gave some to my dog, and she licked it right up! Thanks again!!
Glad to hear your dog loved the food. YW. I assume since it was your first time it took longer but you will do just fine next time. If you are ever in time crunch, check out my slow cooker recipe. It's super easy and very quick prep time.

@@PassionForDogs It was actually fun because I kept thinking about how all of this healthy food was going into my furbabies, and I didn't have to worry about the expensive commercial food that has so many toxins in it. I wish like you I had started doing this earlier, but hopefully, this will extend their lives a bit. Namaste!
I fed my dog before with food I made and I am getting 2 more dogs and will do the same for them. Thanks for the recipe vet says a ok.
Hi... that's awesome...my pleasure and so glad your vet approved it too 💖🐾
FYI: If you have adult healthy dogs please use the ratio with asterisks in the description (those are for adult healthy dogs).
Most helpful video with links too. Thank you. ❤
Thank you 💖🐾
Thank you for this recipe ❤
My pleasure 💖🐾
Thank you for sharing this. I am currently looking at switching to homemade and found you. Very informative and useful please keep posting.
I am glad to hear that my video was helpful. Please let me know how it turned out and if your dog liked it 💓
@@PassionForDogs I am going to call the vet tomorrow and see if I can get a consult we have already talked about dieting with store food, this will be a differnt conversation.
Holistic approach to weight management and overall better diet.
Thank you again. 😊
I have 3 mini Aussies I’ll diffently going to be using this. Thank you.
Great. Let me know how they like it. 💓🐾
Thank you so much for a very helpful lesson and recipe. You did a great job. I feel encouraged to make my doggies food now. What does the ginger do? Thanks again.
You're most welcome!
Ginger has many properties that helps dogs such as anti-inflammatory, arthritis, gas. You can find more at below link:

Hi I’m new to your channel channel and I enjoy very much watching your beautiful video.
And yes I subscribe to your channel.
Thank you! I am glad you found my video helpful. And thank you for subscribing!
Thanks for the ideas. One thing I found out from my vet is that you should cook on low, as cooking on high heat can cause issues with dogs.
You're most welcome! Agreed. Just like with human food, high temp cooking can spoil nutrients. Instant pot and slow cooker are great alternatives to stove top cooking in my experience.
Thank you very much for giving us so much of your time to share this with us all. I found it extremely informative and will definitely make this. 😊😊😊🐕🐶🐩
You're most welcome! 💓
Will you be making any more videos. I think there are only 3 so far. 😊😊😊
I have been making homemade🐶food for my ShihTzu since she was about 3 months, now she two and she loves it...I may try adding a few of your suggestions and see what happens...ProTip, I use a crockpot
That's awesome! I love it when people say that they have been making homemade dog food for their furbabies. Hopefully more and more people start doing it. That's the goal of my channel.
Amen @ crockpot. I have a crockpot recipe too, link below. It is my go to if I don't have much time and want to make a quick prep recipe. Please share your recipes too and what you use to balance it. I am sure we can learn from each other.

Hi, I'm planning to get shih tzu and I never have dog before. Can you tell me what your dog eat daily? And do you add any vitamin? Thanks
Cheers for this, I been tryin to find out about "vet approved homemade dog food recipes" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Donulian Astounded Dominion - (search on google ) ? It is a smashing one off guide for discovering how to discovering the secret the dog food industry is hiding minus the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my buddy got great results with it.
Love the recipe but wthine suggestion. Try using bone broth (dog specific) instead of water.
Agreed....bone broth would be much better.
My thought as well. I make my bone broth to avoid the sodium.
Hi New here!!! I make my own dog food too!! So wanted to see what you make and maybe add to mine ❤
Great. Recipe in video and description. Good luck.
New Subie, thank you for your content, and for sharing.
You're most welcome!
Hey I am not very good with stuff like this but is there a way to print your ingredients on here ? Or ingredients and how to make it?
Hi, I have never print it myself but I saw there are some UA-cam videos for it. Just search print youtube video or description. In the meantime, you can either take a screenshot of the description which lists all ingredients or keep the video paused and just refer to description while cooking. Hope this helps.
Thank you! I’m starting my journey on homemade food for my fur baby; I’m just really confused on how much of a serving to give my 3 month old- 4 lb. pup for three meal servings a day.
I would not start such a young dog on homemade meal just yet because dogs younger than 1 year have much specific diet needs. IMO, it is better to consult your vet and start/keep him on premium food up to one year and then gradually switch to homemade food. Thanks.
Btw, serving size (for adult dogs) is mentioned in description box.
@@PassionForDogs you are correct that puppies require more stuff,, but can put your puppy on cooked meal just have to make sure it is balanced. My vet created several meal plans for my puppy food. It does cost for this plan but It was worth it for me.
@@ladyo7254 That is so awesome!
I have a question. I make my dogs food but I was wondering if I make this recipe could I blend it and put it in my kibble molds and dehydrate it into kibble
I believe you can dehydrate it since it is fully cooked. However, you can also add it directly to kibble to avoid the dehydration step. Thank you for the question!
hi can you store it in the freezer and for how long?
Hi...yes, it can be stored in the freezer for 3-4 months.
In the fridge for up to 4 days.
If I make a big batch, I separate it in daily portions (in containers). I keep couple of days of food in fridge and freeze rest. Then daily I put one container from freezer to fridge to defrost for the next day.
What multivitamin do you use?
I have been using this multivitamin

How much homemade food would you feed a 80lb dog?
Hi... I am copy pasting the link I provided in description box. If you click on this link and then amount to feed you will find the necessary info:
www.dogaware.com/articles/wdjhomemade3.html#amounts
I can’t find your recipes or the amount of food to feed my dog.
Hi, if you check the description box (click down arrow of description box) you will find both recipe and link to recommended feeding quantity.
Latter is copy pasted here for quick reference, scroll down to find feeding quantity:
www.dogaware.com/articles/wdjhomemade3.html
what is the complete recipe, what shows at the end is not complete
Hi Emily, I noticed that technical glitch (ingredients list on last page is cutting off) so to resolve that I have provided the recipe/ingredients list in the description as well.
About how much would this cost per month? Thanks
Thank you for your question. For me it costs me as much as a high end dog food brand would have costed me. It also depends on how big your dog is or how many dogs you have. Buying wholesale would be cheaper if you make big batches and freeze them.
@@PassionForDogs thank you so much!!
Thank you for this dog recipe ❤️ I have a 9-month goldendoodle and give me 3 cups of kibble a day. Can he eat this? He doesn't like his purina kibble anymore 😔
Hi...thank you for your comment and question.... I'd think so but I am not a vet so it is recommended to check with your vet before switching food. I'd look into the ratios with ** in the description which is for healthy adult dog. Pups and active dogs will need higher ratio of protein (usually 80-90%) per my understanding.
Where is the recipe, please?
Hi... it's in the description box. Thank you!
I know I’m late but how long does the food usually last? and how much of it do you feed to your dog?
Feeding recommendation link can be found in description box, it depends on dog weight.
Sweet potato and reg potato skins should actually be peeled due to them having items in them that are toxic to dogs
Thank you for your comment. There is conflicting information on it out there but it is my understanding that if cooked it is good for dogs. Here is an article for quick reference. This article or my videos are for informational purposes only and does not replace vet advice.
pawleaks.com/is-sweet-potatoe-skin-harmful-to-dogs/
Himalayan Pink Salt does not have iodine in it.
That is correct. I believe I mentioned somewhere in the video that I do give them regular salt time to time for iodine intake or one can give kelp powder. Thanks for watching.
Please research sweet potato skin IS NOT good for your dog to eat needs to be peeled
It seems there are mix opinions/articles on this topic. I personally haven't seen any issues with it. Thanks for reaching out.
As with about 99% of all "vet approved" or "vet formulated" recipes, including those used to commercial dog food, the carbs are WAY too high for a canid. Just makes me so sad to view all these DIY videos on youtube that use so much rice and many high glycemic veggies and fruits. The reason that kibble has so much high glycemic carb is for two reasons: 1) It is necessary to make a dough in order to form a shape to cook. All doughs require grain or other starch base; 2) Cheapness. The cheapest fodder is grain and pet food companies seek to make as big a profit as possible. The main reason to cook at home for your pet is to give them a superior diet to kibble for two main reasons: 1) Quality control; 2) More nutritious and species specific for a dog. For some tragic reasons, veterinarians have been so brainwashed in vet school that they actually believe that dogs have evolved to eat the macronutrient ratios that is found in kibble. In other words, kibble is the gold standard in their mind for carb:fat:protein ratios for the lifetime diet of a dog. Don't get me wrong, any dog eating these ratios from a DIY menu using these bad ratios will be much more healthy and happy than a dog forced to eat these same ratios in a dry kibble made with non-human grade, dangerous ingredients. Nuf Said
I understand your concern. If you see the description of my post I have explained the increase/decrease of proteins/carbs ratios because what is shown in the video is a recipe for my dog (who could not have a high protein diet due to his medical needs) and for a healthy adult dog the ratios are different. In any case, one should not replace vet's or pet nutritionist's advice with such DIY videos or online information. Such videos are for informational purposes only. Thank you.
BTW, if you are a pet nutritionist please contact me personally. Link in About Us page.
Butterball is NOT reccomend by veterinarians.
