Well, if this gentleman knows what he's doing and how to fix the problem, then so be it. People learn how to do a lot of things in life by watching others do it. Then you practice what you learn until you get really good at it. Not everything requires college or ASE certification. Being a mechanic isn't hard, but it's not easy either....either way you just have to be willing to put in the work that it takes to fix a vehicle, whether your ASE certified, or not
What trouble codes show up to get to the point where rebuilding is necessary? I got shift solenoid codes, I replaced 4 solenoid and still got trouble codes for solenoid.
INSTALLING THE PISTONS WITHOUT CLEANING THE PART IT GOES INTO ??? YOU SHOWED SOME METAL FROM THE GASKET, DID YOU CHECK THERE WAS NO PIECES LOOSE THAT COULD GRIND LATER ON AND RUIN THE CLUTCHES ? GOOD EXPLANATION VIDEO BUT PLEASE CLEAN PARTS BEFORE YOU INSTALL NEW ONES !!!
This comment is for the camera guy or girl who knows nowadays no offense. Shit you didn't even know it the clutches was new or the old ones because I heard you ask. I mean good God man he could have at bare minimum thrown a $3.00 can of brake clean in that drum to get the burnt fluid and grit out. Not cleaning parts and inspection is pure laziness and I you can't at least try to do the very best you can just don't do it and especially showing people the wrong way. Sorry for the negativity but I spoke the truth.
1. I'm a guy, lol. 2. Thanks for the view and the comment. 3. Sorry you didn't like the video, this transmission worked perfectly fine and still works to this day actually. 4. This video is for people trying to get their transmission working with the bare minimum tools in their garage or on their carport. Cleaning that stuff out would've done absolutely nothing but waste time, obviously, cause the transmission is still perfect today. Some people believe these transmissions are things you have to be super careful with, if you look at it too hard it'll break, that's not the case. It's fine.

Sir the car transmission is making whinning noise, and delays in shifting. I checked for the fuel level is Ok, I checked for the oil still fresh not burned, I checked for any leaks no any leaks, I open the pan, but there were no any metal shavings on the magnets no any particles on the fluid, I decided to change the transmission filter, I checked and open the valve body no any clogs on the passages, I removed all solenoids I tested them all, and one was not working, I changed it with new one, I put back everything I test drive the vehicle no more whinning noise at all and shifting gears smoothly, but after two days as i drive reaching speed of 100 mph, the whinning noise started again, and the car struggles to exceed speed of 100mph, the RPM goes high and the speed is not achieved, what can be the problem, and what can be done sir? Kindly help with ideas.
It's hard to diagnose things like that without seeing the vehicle in person. Maybe you got a faulty solenoid? That can happen. You fixed the solenoid problem and it worked before so it has to be something to do with that I would guess.
The actuator feed limit valve and the tcc regulator valve needs reamed out and replaced with oversize valves. You'll be pulling it back out in a couple of weeks.

Always pray forward towards pump not towards case, you will damage case at valve body vanes Incase.
Yes.
my reverse is out on my 04 suburban but have all other gears but they are feeling held back
any help would be amazing
Gear on the back of your Sun shell broke anywhere near Central Missouri I have the part and the rebuild kit
"Sudden" loss for reverse only on 4L60/E is just a broke shell at rear sun gear.
@@andoblacksmith4262 thank you for the feed back it ended up being my reverse gear the bearing that allows fluid to get to the reverse gear was completely jammed and ended up cause the gear to just give out over time had the whole trans rebuild and drive like a champ ounce again. then maybe a month later a cab driver rammed it into the rear bumper while my wife was working and it was parked but all is good and thank you for the assistance.

Remove the bellhousin before removing the pump. It will slide right out with out banging or prying on pump.
Thanks for the info!
Is the 93-94 4l60e with the single piece cast case/bell housing the same? My brother in law fried his 3rd gear and had. Shitty slipping 4th gear. We got a pick n pull replacement with similar issue. Pick an pull won't shift into 3rd or 4th his old would shift and bounce Rev limit cause there was nothing left of 3rd ( unfortunately he also cracked the case on old one)
A sledge, a screwdriver, and vice grips. I wouldn’t trust that guy to build a sandwich.

Where are y'all located at? Looks like y'all know what you are doing. I would hire you to rebuild mine . I have a 2000 silverado with a 4.3L
We're in southern Florida.
They don't know what they are doing! They are just guessing. When you know what you are doing, you know the purpose of every valve in the transmission, no matter what make or model.
Well, if this gentleman knows what he's doing and how to fix the problem, then so be it. People learn how to do a lot of things in life by watching others do it. Then you practice what you learn until you get really good at it. Not everything requires college or ASE certification. Being a mechanic isn't hard, but it's not easy either....either way you just have to be willing to put in the work that it takes to fix a vehicle, whether your ASE certified, or not
a pair of the cheap walmart extra large c-clamps work great to compress the spring cages.... FYI...
What trouble codes show up to get to the point where rebuilding is necessary? I got shift solenoid codes, I replaced 4 solenoid and still got trouble codes for solenoid.

This is a "do it in your garage with minimal tools" video, lol.
Eh, it works, lol.
yes, it all should havel been cleaned thoroughly
This comment is for the camera guy or girl who knows nowadays no offense. Anyway stop now this guy has no business showing people how to build a transmission just for the simple Fact that he did not so much clean one part of that before throwing it back together.
It's fine.
YOU ARE DEFINITELY CORRECT. IT'S LIKE A DOCTOR DOING SURGERY AND REPLACING A KNEE CAP WITHOUT STERILIZING IT !
totally agree...
I'm with u on this
You got lucky if it actually did work. Nobody but a professional should be doing this it's a fuckin headache to work on something some jackass who didn't know what they were doing touched it. Transmissions you need special tools for a reason. If you can't afford to have yours built by a professional go buy one from the junkyard out of a wrecked vehicle
A paint lid remover tool works real well on that servo ring seal.
Thanks for the information!
U get what you pay for and if it works out even better.....

It's hard to diagnose something without seeing it in person.
Do I have to remove all that stuff to remove the pump and get to the shell?
Nice video... i have a question my trans cooler line came out of the radiator dumped abunch of fluid while driving .. replaced the connecter and filled the transmission back up and wont shift into 3rd just revs.. shifted manually and no third ... would you think its the clutches?
This is my problem
The Pump will come out alot easier if you got to remove the be Bell Housing, by using a T50 Torx Bit.
It does, but we've broke a few bits trying to take the bell housing off of previously built transmissions, people always put them on way too tight.
@@1018Video torx 50 PLUS is the right size
Very correct T50 plus. A regular t50 will round them out very quick and create a whole new problem

Let’s just dump all the transmission fluid directly on the floor. Good job.
It got cleaned up afterwards lol.

You all need to learn which accumulator is which. How to use the proper tools for the job. And a whole lot more. Good luck.
Still works fine to this day, no issues. This video is more for the average person who doesn't have a bunch of fancy tools.
What year 4l60 is this? My check valve balls are a little different
Mines wouldn't shift out 2nd would that be my 3/4 clutch
There are several things that could cause that issue, it is hard to diagnose something like that without seeing it in person.
Take bell housing off first. For pump removal.
Yes.
Where do you stay at man?? I have the same one I need help with that slips the same
I work on my vehicle and pretty much have success..however the 4l60e scares me..way too many parts to deal with.

How long did this take?.. I have 07 Yukon XL slt. And trans is acting the same way. No 3rd or 4th gear.... Little to no money.. I can afford rebuild kit..what kit do I need. I'm stuck in FLORIDA working disaster and got scammed. Have to make it back home asap! .. been having to run it in 1st and 2nd and now it's starting to idle real rough.. also is this just like 4l60e?
It can be done in one day.
Usually we just have people get a full rebuild kit for a 4L60 when something like that happens.
And yes it's a 4L60 if it's a 4 speed auto.

But getting up to 60, in OD is almost impossible. i also can't slow the truck down by down shifting. It just coast now. I have a 700r4 i believe. Would that be a rebuild or is it easier to fix?
It's always best to just get a rebuild kit and rebuild it.
Sir would you say 1800 to 1850 is a decent price to pay to have a transmission 2011 LT rebuilt for that amount of money
Are they pulling the transmission out themselves?
Clean up your area dude . wtf and never leave those load springs out .
How different is the 4l60E compared to this one? Or are they pretty much identical
They're basically the same, the "E" on the end of 4L60E just means that it is electronically controlled instead of vacuum controlled.
The 4l60 or 7004r is not vacuum controlled, but a throttle cable
The actuator feed limit valve and the tcc regulator valve needs reamed out and replaced with oversize valves. You'll be pulling it back out in a couple of weeks.
Still working fine years later.
Thinking I have the same problem. 07 silverado won't shift into 3rd or 4th gear. Would a rebuild kit from autozone have everything I need or do I need to try and find the pistons somewhere aswell?
What you end up doing?

There's a few things that could be, a shift-solenoid or clutch problems. It's hard to diagnose stuff like that without seeing the vehicle in person.
How about using a front pump puller?
Not everyone has one of those.
Would this be the same for a 4l70e transmission??

Do you know what to do to have stronger transmission ?
Depends on how much you want to spend. And it depends on how strong you want it.
Maybe use a socket to get snap ring on

I suspect the water got in from being either in a ditch or boat ramp.

my 08 Trail Blazer doesn't have 3rd, but on the highway 4th worked until I tried to accelerate hard, (because 3rd is gone). Would that be the clutch pack or the shift solenoid?

3rd and 4th use the exact same clutch pack. The only difference between 3rd and 4th is the band engages when it goes into 4th.
