  • A 35 Mph (56 Km/h) 70% overlap rear impact using FMVSS 301 standards.
This is Test #1 performed on a 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L/4AT 4WD with no Tow Hitch on 10/31/13.
Results: Large leak where filler neck enters fuel tank; too much to accurately catch and measure. No Simulated rollover performed.

    #1 - No Hitch/Fuel Leak (This Test)
    #2 - No Hitch/Fuel Leak

Even though I’m more partial to jeep, it looked pretty clapped out. That caddy looked freaking mint tho, what a shame.

Looks like the Cadillac did exactly what it was designed to do. Airbags deployed, front crumple zones absorbed much of the force of the impact, passenger compartment did not deform. I'd say the passengers in the Caddy would have survived with minimal injuries. The jeeps occupants would likely have a bad case of whiplash at the very least, but that's to be expected when being hit from behind by a 3500 pound automobile.

The issue was the Jeep has the fuel tank mounted too low and unprotected. This is a test to show that. NHTSA found something like an 18x higher fire rate in rear-end crashes compared to similar vehicles and there were 51 fire deaths. There ended up being a recall in 2013 of 20 year old vehicles, in which trailer hitches were installed for free. Some vehicles were simply too rusted at which point people got a $1k trade in credit.

Bro. They are literally doing this to see if the vehicle is safe to drive and if it needs evaluation. Also, This is literally their job.

@@fa1rybabyx238 they knew they weren't safe in 93. They're fix for fires was add a trailer hitch. Im not lying look it up. I had to bring my 98 to a jeep dealer in 2018 for them to do the recall. We aren't learning shit from a 25 year old vehicle. As far as safety we're lightyears ahead of this. It's a pointless waste because I don't know if you've noticed this but they don't make these anymore so what we've got left is it.
