Definitely impressive, although he was a very good cyclist before he took up running. I'd say Rebecca Romero is more impressive as a Olympic medalist rower becoming an Olympic gold medalist in cycling. She started when she was around 25 which is obviously still pretty young but she was national champion in a year and an Olympic gold medalist 2 years after that.

At that age, I can imagine it's more important to keep the head clear, as it easily destroys one's performance. But how can anyone block that out of their mind while competing. Honestly, I know this is out there but, I think Kipchoge would have a solid shot at the 50k Road record set by CJ Albertson. I know the marathon and a 50k are two different animals but with Kipchoge’s insane endurance, speed, mental resolve and ability to just push when nobody else is could lead to a new record if he attempted the distance. My hope is that we'll see one more surge in the marathon career of Eliud. Maybe one, maybe two, but I think he still has some 2:01 type times in him (if not bumping up against Kiptum's time).
What I am most excited about in Kipchoge's running future though is that he has said when his marathon career is over, he wants to move to the ultra marathon distance. I believe I've seen or read him saying that on two occasions but the specific niche of ultra was not mentioned.

I would like to see him compete with Killian Jornette, for example; or Jim Walmsley. How about in UTMB courses? • @cronikvialo5463

Trail running is a different animal. It requires specific adaptations, you need a long time to let your body adapt.
First you have to adapt to the irregularity of the terrain, you must have strong ankles and good lateral stability, but also the massive hills and downhills that uses different muscles and running technique
And i haven't even started on the ultra running aspect, it's not comparable to a marathon, it's 10x longer, muscle endurance and nutrition becomes a critical factor, your body also need to learn to get used to that. It's also a different kind of mental strenght
Specificity is key, and at 39 i dont think Kipchoge have enough time to learn these new skills, especially for him who is fragile to hills and weather

@@cronikvialo5463 With respect, I don't totally agree with you. I have watched many training videos of Kipchoge in Kaplagat, Kenya. They run in groups so many long runs in forest paths, over hills etc. similar to trail running. And these runners all have background in cross country. Although I agree with you that road racing is different than ultra marathons and trail races, I think they will adapt the needs not in a long time.
