A little correction at 5:00 onward: The cumdungeon is not something that was in the base game. Iirc, it was made using a save editor and is known as a “false depth” chalice. False depth chalices are edited to have loot and enemy difficulty but are accessible after getting the first available chalice dungeon. So it was not intended by the developers and was made specifically for farming blood echoes and loot, basically. All this to say, I would consider it a “mod” of sorts.
In Cyberpunk 2077's defense, it had the biggest glowup since No Man's Sky. It still has some amusing quirks with the NPC's and if you don't like the genre, this isn't gonna sell you on it, but it was starting to get its shit together a bit after Edgerunners came out, so that explains why people went back to it.
If play it on last gen consoles i could see why you wouldn’t give it another chance. It was absolute terrible. The lack of role playing could also be a major part of distaste cause your very much Gerald or V in those games.
Absolutely agree, it needed a lot more time developing and needed the last gen ports dropped, but the bones and writing were great and the most recent updates have turned it into a 10/10 game for me at least.
I made it from the beginning of the game to the weird wizard dude on the way to the castle before I quit. 98% of the messages I saw were "secret path" in front of a wall.
Yeah so the thing that dies is a mob that spawns in under a guilliotine. Walking forward loads in both, but opening the door to the left has a chance of making the mob walk towards you, missing the guilliotine trap
I know it's not the kind of game Mike and Zack are gonna play here, but the only game announcement I'm excited for is Dispatch. The idea of a crippled superhero having to adjust to being the guy in the chair and managing the conflicting personalities and powers of a larger group of superheroes is just super fascinating and interesting to me.
@@shaneblair-hicks4975 Yeah, the travois is the one Mike was thinking of, I figured Zach might have been thinking of toboggan since he specifically said "the Canadian word" and toboggans in specific are typically regarded as Canadian, though they're originally from the Innu and Cree. Ultimately there's a load of different sleds used to move stuff, from travois, to toboggans, to sledges, and various other things and to get into the semantics of it is just an exercise in pedantry when sled will do just fine. Main thing that makes a toboggan a toboggan however is it has no skis and instead just rides with the bottom directly on the snow.
Your long dark videos are my favourite ones. There’s just something strangely cozy about listening to you two chatting and trying not to be mauled by the hostile Canadian wildlife. Lol
I’m not sure if love these Long Dark videos or if I just love our boys being themselves together while casual gameplay is in the background. Either way, I love these.
i have actually started this challenge after seeing the first episode and i've got a sorting system set up (canned food in one drawer, food to eat in another, wood in a pile near the barrel, medical stuff in the bathroom,crafting/matches near the workbenches and weapons/ammo in a locker) it really helps
Man, after watching all these videos of Mike and Zach playing The Long Dark now I got this need for playing it! And it's only six bucks on Steam due to the winter sale. Worth a shot! Gotta love how these guys managed to introduce me to a game twice, maybe thrice 'cause after hearing Zach talk about Bloodborne so much I got this urge to play it too
my main issue with the game awards is how they have the vote skewed. it's almost entirely voted on by a group of judges from publications that have only recently added "gaming" sections and it's just not accurate. should be a fan vote with like 25% at most from the judges
Honestly these videos are hilarious to me because zach approaches it like a survivalist hiker whereas mike has the thought process of an ultralight hiker and the back and forth is great
OW was pretty good in my opinion especially compared to the slop we get these days,, I thought it was refreshing if not perfect by any means, a call back to the old days of rpgs
Yeah, it was a solid title. The main gripes I had with it were mainly in it sometimes being too much of a copy of the New Vegas formula. Sometimes something is broke and you should fix it. For example, I think revealing background lore of the world and the people in it through terminal entries you have to read was revolutionary when Bungie did it in Marathon in 1994, and I accepted it in Fallout New Vegas in 2010 because Obsidian had a shoestring budget and got their timetable chopped in half. But when games like Fallout 4 and The Outer Worlds did it in 2015 and 2019 respectively, that's just not acceptable to me any more. We have the technology; find a better way to bring the world alive in a shooter game than making my brain take a hard left from adrenaline-pumping combat and/or stealth into reading comprehension mode and back again constantly. But also they let me execute a fascist on live TV (in the game, UA-cam, not in real life) and I can overlook a myriad of sins for that.
If you find the game or grinding tedious, especially for bloodviles, i highly recommend the cummmpfk chalice dungeon. Just has restraint and either use it only for the consumables, or only level when you are stuck using the method.
The first time I played Outer Worlds, I also had a meh experience. Went back years later after I heard Tim Cain describe the game as a "pre-apocalypse", and I actually loved the game and story once I went into it with that reading of the story, about how things decay and fall apart. I think marketing it as "space new vegas" did more damage to Outer Worlds than anything else
No, they know they fell kind of short, but they couldn't really do anything about that, it was obsidians big return to 3d games, their first big game in years and It was made on a pretty slim budget, working from scratch it was just never going to get to new vegas levels because of those limitations.
@WesterlyToast I initially thought the writing was ham-fisted on my first playthrough as well, but I found hidden layers and interesting depth the second play-through. It was talking to the bartender in Edgewater, which I don't think I did the first time, really made it click for me that people are A. Lying to you constantly and B. Lying to themselves. The writing isn't genius or anything, but different and I really enjoyed it
The 'sleigh' you are thinking about is called a Travois, which is Native American in origins which is a useful thing and I wish it was in more games, like far more games, you can pull it or strap it to an animal.
Zach's opinion of cd project red games are valid, but in defense of cyberpunk 2077, it got released way early because of public push, and when the show came out, the game had received a good number of patches and game updates(and maybe the dlc) so it got a face lift and that'd why so many people changed their opinions
I do enjoy the videos where Zach isn't the "straight man" and Mike annoys the hell out of him. Letting Zach shine or be the scurge or Mike's existence are quite enjoyable.
Outer worlds was great. Yes it wasn't as wide as fallout new Vegas in story but they made something great as a first game in the line. Probably will be more sustainable as a series than fallout. I loved it personally
So, while Zach's made his stance on survival games clear, any chance y'all would be willing to check out Abiotic Factor? It's a survival game that is, essentially, "What if you were one of the poor bastards at Black Mesa who wasn't Gordon Freeman" IMO I think the game is just a bit too "make the right kind of table"-heavy but the core concept is strong enough that I've held on
I can´t be the only one that wants a way to befriend a wolf/animal. I am unaware if there is a way, vanilla or otherwise, but I need it! I would love something like an event where you cross paths with a lonewolf, a baby deer or something; and no, I don´t care that much if it isn´t that realistic, I am just tired of being alone in a frozen hell killing wild life that I find rather adorable.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO now how did you learn that trick about werewolf wives
Mike, they are still big/long games and fairly daunting regardless, but the 2 most recent entries (Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth) are perfect to start without any other knowledge of the franchise. side note: The Yakuza games have always been called "Like A Dragon" in Japan, and they decided to stop using different titles in different regions so Like A Dragon 7 got released as Yakuza: Like A Dragon internationally to help people adjust. Zach is absolutely correct that BTO is boomer music and that song being used in the trailer killed the tiny grain of hope I had that in a sequel Obsidian would be able to learn from and correct the mistakes of the middling first Outer Worlds.
I agree with your assessment of Outer Worlds in that it does shove "corporation bad" into your face constantly... not sure why that's a problem, if everything was going great in Halcyon why would they even need a popsicle savior?
15:01 The Outer Worlds was carried by Obsidian's success with KOTOR and New Vegas, and then Obsidian became a joke after that boring, uninnovative, and poorly written game was released.
If you wana get more into Fromsoftware games you could try dark souls 1, its the easiest imo and much smaller in content and mechanics so it won't take as long to clear as some of the other ones. It would also be fun to watch your lets play :)
I won't defend Outer Worlds, but i didn't mind it, I'll probably play the sequel. At least it's not Mad Max (I honestly didn't hate that either but it was very much repetitive). Really excited about Doom The Dark Ages and Blackfrost though. Hopefully they go over well.
Having recently played Witcher 3, i can agree with Zach the combat feels "floaty". But then again, Witchers are supposed to be almost superhuman in strength and speed, so effortless sword swings make sense. And with boomer music... it has to FIT. The Destroy All Humans remakes used Rammstein and somehow, those songs fit the trailers. Fallout's use of 1950s and 60s music is thematic for its setting, but it WORKS for a reason. You cant just shove Crazy Train or For Whom the Bell Tolls or Back in Black into any random trailer and think it will remotely look good. Too many AAA titles especially rely on big name songs to make an impact because their games suck, especially the FPS genre. And yea, as a LOOOONG time BL2 fan who beat BL3 exactly one time, i could not care less about BL4. Its going to suck, i dont care how much money Randy Bitchfork slides under the table to youtubers, im not going to "be nice" or "forget bl3" when i look to bl4 at release.
I thoroughly enjoyed the outer worlds. The main story is a bit bland but the world's were fun and kind of interesting, the combat was enjoyable, and the murder mystery dlc was great. I personally am excited for the sequel. If they go a little more on the story, be a little more interesting, maybe have romance options and more freedom in the game. I hope for good things.
Had to go and actually listen to the Outer Worlds 2 trailer (cause I played it without audio the first time) and... yeah. Yeah, I agree with Zach on the poor song choice.
Im excited for the outer worlds 2, I laughed at the game alot, and I laughed with it, I never even tried to take it serious. Was a fun comedy game for me 😂
I don't really get the complaint on Outer Worlds 2 using "boomer music" in the trailer is stupid because no one that will be interested in the game is a boomer; I feel as though they chose that music because it fits the style of the game. They chose similar music for the first game's trailer and I don't think it was because they were trying to pander to a specific audience, that just feels kinda dumb. That being said, I could be biased because I am not a boomer and I love that kind of music...
