I remember having a dream after I found out that Turner Gill would be out for this game, and Nebraska won this game by 37-7! Of course when I woke up I thought there was no way Nebraska would beat Oklahoma by that margin. I figured Nebraska would win by just a few points, but they ended up winning 37-14.
Oklahoma had a great offense that year a great offensive line Darrel Shepard was a hell of a quarterback, Stanley Wilson was a great fullback , Kelly Phelps was a terrible quarterback but the defense was young and they could not overcome all the offensive fumbles that year.
I'm a Ny'er, hence no college football here (Syracuse is Canada) however, growing up in 60's 70's My Saturdays were in front of the TV watching Alabama or OU play and that was all I needed to satisfy me. Barry Switzer for some odd reason/since coaching the Cowboys to a SB Title has been not thought of very highly in some parts/THE PRESS, mostly, BUT, that man can coach!!! Year after Year running the wishbone to almost perfection/still the most exciting offense ever, especially in short yardage situations/goal line/and winning 10/11 games and the Orange Bowl almost every other year/when they weren't winning the Gator or Cotton bowl- about time Coach Switzer got his due. Coach was 100 games over .500 at one point-think about that, only Steve Spurrier has been similar during that span. Saban came later, but that's a different story for a different era. PEACE!
Devaney was so ancient and old school with his vision of football. A simple screen pass and he acts like that was a huge gamble and hard play to execute lol
Devanney, when asked why his team didn't pass more, once replied, "Because, when you throw the ball, three things can happen, and two of them are bad "
Beginning of 3 years of bad luck for Nebraska. If Gill doesn't get hurt they probably beat Clemson in the Orange Bowl later this season and win at least 1/2 the National Championship, the next year they have the controversial loss to Penn State and of course 1983 the loss in the Epic Orange Bowl game to Miami
rankinnwc Interesting 3 years for sure. Gill figured to make a difference vs. Clemson, Penn State TD was controversial (though you only need one toe in the field of play), and failed 2 conversion for 2 points vs. MiA.
rankinnwc 3 years of bad luck?!!!! What?!!!! 1981, 1982 and 1983 were GLORY YEARS for Osborne & Nebraska. They beat OU all 3 years. Before that, Osborne was 1-8 against Oklahoma. As a result of finally beating OU, Osborne FINALLY started winning Big 8 titles. Nebraska won all 3 years outright conference titles. Before that, Osborne’s best was a share of conference titles. In addition, Nebraska played for 2 of 3 National Titles in the bowl game (‘81 and ‘83), and in ‘82 should have. Before Osborne’s National Titles in the ‘90’s, ‘81-‘83 was the peak for Osborne.
Controversial loss to Penn state. Nah, Nebraska got robbed. It was discovered a few years later one of the officials on that crew had a nephew that played for Penn st. Greg Garrity was the Penn st player. That was a hell of a game though. One of the better college football games I have seen.
Rozier-Craig were 2 imposing runners...1-2 punch..wore the OU defense down.....PHELPS FUMBLE..WHEN OK WAS DRIVING and had 10-7 lead AND OU KICKER KEELING MISSED 27YD FG ALL STARTED FALLING APART FOR OU THEN ON strange after a very strong start for OU AT HOME
Probably the worst color team in football. This Wayne dude made so many mistakes throughout calling the game and Devaney acted like he needed to be in a nursing home. Dull and cheesy broadcast
I remember listening to this game on the radio. Thought NU had no chance without Turner Gill. Was happy that Mark Mauer got his moment in the sun.
Switzer was one fine coach. So was Osborne.

Huge win for Neb but clearly not one of switzers stronger teams at OU. The 78 win for NU in lincoln was against a much stronger OU team.
Oklahoma had a slump from 81 to 83

So glad NU went with the red face masks the next season. The gray was dull
This game wasn't televised by ABC or CBS back then?
OU was probably on probation again.

John Madden said don't throw a pass for no yards
Anyone know what type of potato this was filmed with?
yea, i believe it was a russet using a scalloped lens.....

People like me are still bitter about lising to Penn State on obviously bad calls...
@@joannleichliter4308 Yep.

This Nebraska team underachieved. Losing 📉 at Iowa was a bad sign
37-14 Nebraska victory

😂😂😂
Long pregame 😴
@Scott Howrey: Your lame comments are laughable. You wish you could even complete a sentence correctly. Too funny.
Switzer was a good guy!! GBR!
