    I made a few mistakes in this video when making the graphics.
    1. A small error when creating the simplified pedigree tree for this line at 0:48. It should show female two and labeled as cross 2 instead of showing female 3 and cross 3.
    2. Filling in the Punnett square at 3:03 and 4:18. The boxes in the top right and bottom left should be swapped.

    fantastic! Looking forward to seeing the results from this cross. I am sure they will look great. Its a shame you lost that male but you have fry. Some of his fry should look like him.

      @@IvansGuppies I'm planning to breed the F1 together to see whether the phenotypic traits persist. Meanwhile I'll also outcross the F1 males to yellow tuxedo females, and the F1 females to yellow tuxedo males to see any results, though I'm expecting the red to remain

    • @IvansGuppies
      @IvansGuppies  2 місяці тому

      That'll be super interesting! If I were to guess, the F1 x F1 will produce many different phenotypes. The F1's are a result of a crossbreeding and are likely heterozygous for many different traits but all in the same way. This makes them all look very similar. An F1 x F1 will start to reveal all the different combinations you could get with the genetics they have. It'll be interesting to see how many will look like the original 24K or the original reds and everything in between. The other crosses with the tuxedo I am not sure of and I'd be interested in seeing the results!

    hey question for you :)
    these last days (2 haha) i ve wached every single video of your chanel and i was thinking to do some guppy genetics my self. I find some times the materiel hard to read (and find). so i have some question that maybe you could answer or referance me to some sources. first one is how does the color of the guppy work between the tail and the front body and back body. like in a blue moskow all the body is black, but i have seen half black looking blue moscows (i dont know if this question is clear). my second one is i would like to bread some 24k gold guppies with none available in my area at hand. i know it is a hard task and i will see if i can do it but i would like to ask if my assumption on their genetics is right. i assume that the have a blonde body (sure) and they should have metal gold gene, and for the gold aspect some combination of hell blau and stoerzbach, with an yellow tail? any thoughts on these assumption thx for your time i will maybe start my own videos with a project like this :) thx for the inspiration and keep going

      Thanks for watching! I'm looking forward to the videos if you start a breeding project! I think more information out there is good!
      As fun as guppy genetics are, it definitely gets complicated! I'm still learning too. At the moment, I'm really only familiar with the genetics that are at play in my guppies. With that being said, I'll try to answer your questions.
      1. As far as I can tell, the color between the tail and the rest of the body tends to be unlinked. I think that for the most part, there are several characteristics that are at play and maybe working together to get a monotonal color throughout the fish. Take halfblacks/Tuxedos for instance, they come with almost any tail color.
      2. I think you might be on the right track for 24K golds.
      - I'm not 100% sure if a blond body is a must base on some phots that I'm seeing. Particularly, photos of females.
      - Metal gold - Very likely
      - Hell Blau - Possibly since it seems to partially preserve the yellow color and increase iridescence as opposed to European Blau or Asian Blau.
      - Stoerzbach - Very likely
      - I think yellow tail might be a consequence from the above genes all expressing as opposed to being an independent trait. I could be wrong. In any case, it definitely wouldn't hurt if it was in there.
      - I would maybe also add halfblack/tuxedo. From the photos of 24K golds I'm looking at, a lot of them seem to have it but it is subtle. More noticeable in the females.
      As a side note, my cross 9 offspring seem to have a few males that are close to white versions of 24K golds. Or at least they have more proliferation of white colors. Check out the male starting at 2:10 in my cross 9 part 4 video. This cross comes from the original female that looked like a black moscow to me, or some variant of black moscow. This original female is my female number 4 and I have a playlist that follows her line.
      Hopefully this helps and gives you an idea of where to start! I would also look through Alan S. Bias's work if you haven't already. Phillip Shaddocks book. There is also quite a few guppy Facebook groups that talk about genetics. u/Latrell_Shemar22 on reddit has a very comprehensive list of references in one of his posts.
      Good Luck! I really do hope you start a video series too!

      my only porblem is limited tanks. just to have an idea how many do you use??

    • @IvansGuppies
      @IvansGuppies  2 місяці тому

      I currently have twelve 10-gallon tanks specifically for this project. As the broods mature, it fluctuates. But I also started with 4 individual females and I kept each of their broods separate. I think starting with one or two females will work just as well. Using dividers also helps. I used dividers and large plastic jars/bins for crosses 1-3 when they were fry and juveniles.

      A new subscriber here

      @IvansGuppies  17 днів тому

      Hey! Thanks for subscribing! Guppy genetics can be pretty complex, but I’ve been using basic Mendelian genetics for my work so far. I didn’t go into detail about how to use Punnett squares in my videos since there are already plenty of great educational resources on that topic. If you’re unfamiliar with Mendelian genetics, I recommend starting with those videos-they’re helpful for understanding all kinds of genetics, not just guppies.
      For guppy-specific genes, Alan Bias has been a fantastic resource for me, and I’ve included a link to some of his materials in the video description. To get a better understanding of the genes I’m working with, my earlier videos focus on one characteristic at a time, which makes them easier to follow before things get more complex. I hope this helps!

    Hi, I am trying to create a new strain with 2 genes i love in guppies. For this i used The See- thru guppy : a transparent fish model by Philip Shaddock. Now before we go further i'd like to explain that i do this as a hobby and not for profit. I also i have autism and have never learned genetics and english is not my mother tongue. So it can be i am misunderstanding some stuff. 2 Years ago i bought a group of Albino Sky Blue guppy's. From then to today i thought i would let the line die out untill i had 1 female and 1 male left. The female is from another group so there would be less inbreeding. However the male was to old and could not keep up with the female so they never bred. It was then i wanted to find some see trough guppy to start a new strain. However it was so hard/impossible to find in europe i had to order them from Tailand. At the time i did not realy care for colour as long they were albino and see trough. I got 4 baby fish as they were cheaper but sadly they all turned to be male. I then had an idea that popped into my head and thought, wouldn't it be beautifull if i combine the Sky blue gene with the glass belly gene? So come to september and my male grew up and i putted him with my lone female. A month later i had the first fry. At first i was so happy but then i noticed all the fry looked the same as the mother. I thought it would be as simple as putting a male and female together, but after some research i realised that was not the case. Using the model by Philip Shaddock, i was on a good start tough. I knew the female was albino Asian Blau and i think heterozygous since she does not display redness anywere but cant say for sure for yellow( wich would be descibed homozygous and would reduce red and yellow pigments ). According to Philip this gene is dominant and the reason i say i think the female is heterozygous is because some fry display some yellow colours but none of them have red pigments. So what i think is that all the fry are heterozygous at least for Asian Blau. It can be some have the homozygous gene but they are still to small to tell. Both parents are albino so all their fry will get those genes as well. And then we need the last component : Glass Belly. Their father is a glass belly " yellow dragon glass belly guppy" But i am not sure wich gene pool he has other than that. I know he does not carry mutations affecting the color cells since he has some yellow and red, alltough the red is reduced. He also misses Iridophores in his eyes and half of his body. That is as far as ive gotten with his gene pool. But since all the fry from the first generation look alike i am not sure how to proceed to the second generation. I tried to make a punnett square but i simply dont get it enough yet. All the model said by Philip was he used 4 randomly picked females and bred them. But he did not indicate how. Did he crossbreed with their father, or did he inbreed with brother and sister? He also said that analysis of the cross predicted that a guppy with the genotype aa Ab/-gbgb would be 1/16 ( aa i am not sure if it means albino or something else ) Ab ( heterozygous Asian Blau ) gbgb ( glass belly ). But i dont get anything from that punnett square, so i am asking experienced guppy breeders wich father is best to use for my second generation to get the same outcome as 1/16. Father to daughter or brother and sister?
    I hope i gave enough info and you guys understand it more than i do.
    ps : Thanks to Ivan's video's i learned a lot so thank you!
