You don’t need to add the + just put in the number .0002 the control recognizes it

If this is an HRT230 then you should set Z zero on top of a set of 6" of jo blocks or 5" for an HRT160.

How are you centring the stock within the jaws of the vice?

I used a 5th axis self centering vise.

@@markkonschak6288 yes, I have the same vice. I meant centring the stock in the Y axis. Perhaps just setting with a ruler is adequate?

Why would you use the sheet metal enclosure to square your fourth. Sheet metal is far from accurate to the 'tenths indicator' you're using. You should do it to the face of the fourth or the face of the vice adapter plate.

I’m not running it across the sheet metal. I’m running the indicator across the precision ground body. The face of the fixture isn’t a bad place to check but can induce error if you’re fixture isn’t perfectly parallel.

@@markkonschak6288 That's a big error in the middle for precision ground 😞
Defo use the face plate, that's the bit that matters so that's the bit to measure 🙂
As an aside you'll get better measurements with that indicator if you turn it so the needle drags behind it rather than it being perpendicular to what you're measuring too
