I lived in daytona Beach for a decade, not long ago. Partied hard every weekend. Never had an issue with police or criminals. I didn't hear of any body being jumped. And I worked somewhere that had 300 employees.

Shameful on the Daytona Police Department. Hope they sue the arrogant bastards. I have been in beaches all over the world and trust me Daytona Beach is far from being the "Most Beautiful". It does not even come close to the beaches in Brazil, France, Italy, , Mexico, Tahiti, Cuba or even the beaches on the West Coast. It is an oversold and overcrowded nasty little beach, that's all.

The vehicle is far too high with many blind spots. It could have been much worse but these patrols should have been done in a low riding sand buggy. If he retired from the patrol, it means two things. He felt a culpability and thought firing was a possibility AND he retired with his pension intact.

Negligent assault or reckless endangerment, take your pick. The driver wasn't using the designated roadway, and ran over two people. You would face charges for driving on the sidewalk and hitting two people, the same laws should apply, at minimal, in this situation. The same laws apply to the streets, or the beach, as far as D.U.I.'s, Reckless driving, etc. We always need to hold those we are supposed to look up to, to a much higher standard. Instead they threw these two "Teens" under the proverbial bus. There seems to be more than a few, in this particular department, that are not who we want to put our trust in. Do better.

wtf???? seriously? what even is society anymore?
it's not even some random illegal immigrant we can't do anything about, hes an employee there, breaking the rules of the worksite, thus injuring innocents...and we're just, gonna let him go and get away with that?.... incredible.

This was foreseeable. All the studies showing the tall hood on modern pickups and SUVs can hide small kids (and people laying on the ground) from the driver's view for a great (more than safe) distance.
