The entire POINT of comedy is to offer comfort. Being able to laugh about the absurdity of uncomfortable times helps make life more bareable. As long as it's artfully done :)
That is what kept us "alive" during the war in 1999. It was actually the second and last thing to be seen on a TV. The rest was cut off, but except for homemade satirical program, this was something we, kids by that time, could also enjoy :-) Sad, that I had to learn about it like this, but then again, it kept us a bit jolly along the time...
Only seen a little of this show but love it .... Grew up watching Hogans Heroes in USA .... Loved it to .... HH got the the same treatment here and the same gripes as AA .... But .... I love em BOTH !
I wonder why Gavin Richards (Bertorelli) was not interviewed for this. The guy who played Von Smallhausen had Parkinson and later died of cancer, a few years after this was shown back in 2007.
I agree Parkinson never seemed to quite get the role down maybe its just cause we're used to Haig. I think they should have just written out the role when Haig left, anyone know why he left?
Well its been two years since you asked this question, so I guess the suspense must be killing you by now, but basically he left the show because he died. As far as excuses go, I would say this one ranks in the top half.
Jack Haig was sceduled to appear in Season 6, but he had stomach cancer. After all the Allo Allo theatre plays and the long Season 5, he became too ill to act, and died before filming of S.6 started. I agree about LeClerc, but Robin Parkinson (and Derek Royle in S.6) played Roger LeClerc's brother, Ernest LeClerc not ROGER LeClerc as Jack Haig played. They probably included Robin Parkinson in this because he was the only one still around of the LeClercs. Too bad they didn't include Herr Flick, Helga and Captain Geering in the return of Allo Allo acting segment in character. I read that it was considered, but finding a suitable profession/career that Herr Flick etc had been doing after the war was too difficult. It's funny that they stayed away from the original canon ending of Season 9, where Gruber and Helga is married, and Gruber is an art dealer, and Von Strohm who was still alive after all those years, worked as Gruber's driver, while here it's Gruber that is Mimi and LeClerc's driver.
Herr flick is soo funny because of his stoic and commanding presence. I am happy that Helga marries Gruber, in the end. Helga may of had a fling with Herr flick but I just don't think it was " true love".
It's funny how the creators are talking about how people were so offended when they were making fun of the nazis, and nowadays we wouldn't get something like this for the same reasons.
I was born 1988 and I STILL THINK THIS IS SO FUNNY. My Grandma, of whom has 9 children and all thought it was funny. I still had to buy the full series of which I’ve bought three times due to the family wanting the DVD’s. People say it’s racist but how can be racist when they’re on the races involved. If it was anything it would be more nationalist but then again it’s taking the Mickey out of all nations and not just one. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!
The best hr. Flick ever said was Flick the Gestapo on the phone. And captain. Hans Geerin doing the song about Hitler when the captain was in in the POW camp.
La mejor serie que recuerdo y es imposible olvidar gracias porque de vez en cuando se hace algo maravilloso
I laughed so hard. I couldn't go to sleep for 20 minutes and it is 3:00 in the morning.
Herr Flick HAD a catch-phrase. It was to Helga all the time: "You may kiss me"
Yes and "come along von smallhausen"

"There's always somebody who doesn't find something funny."
So true today!

We still have some stuck up people who cannot appreciate a good laugh. Allo Allo is still one of the best TV comedies ever
That's the problem today, no one can laugh at themselves, everyone is so far up their own jacksies, oooer missus.
My personal favourit was officer Crabtree :-)
Everyone's favourite is Officer Crabtree. The point is who's your favourite apart from him.
As herr Flick says. If it is a German joke, it is not a laughing matter (said with a German accent)
I wonder why Gavin Richards (Bertorelli) was not interviewed for this. The guy who played Von Smallhausen had Parkinson and later died of cancer, a few years after this was shown back in 2007.
Jack Haig was the best LeClerc!
