Nordwave 2 Exploring the FM engine

- At NAMM2020 @NordKeyboards announced their new Nordwave 2, and it has a lot of things going on. One thing is a new FM synth implementation. It's fun and easy to work with. And since you have these Nord style 4 layers to work with, you have up to four layers of FM synths, that together can form one.. if you want to. Here I'm checking out the FM synth workflow on the new Nordwave 2.
Thank you so much Knarf from / @lessondiers
for helping me out in filming this video. I was struggling to find a way to mount my camera in a meaningful way, and he stepped in ❤️

The reverb on the mod wheel sounds crazy good. New to FM and exploring that on my Wave 2 so this is great content. Thanks!
Wow this is a superb synth
always a magical sound whenever you have a keyboard under your hands. love it
Thanks Dom! It was a quick peek. I hope I can get some more time with it some day. In the search for the perfect gig keyboard, this one comes really close. Like the Jack of all trades - master of none... perhaps master of keybed? ;-)
I truly admire how he walks up to these types of things like "hold my beer." Lol
Haha thanks! That was kind of the situation actually.. I tried it for a few minutes and felt like "hey, it's a Unix... i know this!"
I wish Nord would re-issue a synth with the FM engine from the Nord Rack 3 - that's one of my favourite digital synths of all time.
lovely demo. im somewhat new to programming FM and I have to say, wave 2 seems fairly intuitive. The FM blends you achieved here were just awesome. Good to know these textures are possible on w2.
What a nicely shot video 😉🤣 !
🤣 the best! I should travel with you all the time! 🙏🏼
@@truecuckoo Well, you actually DO travel with me all the time.
that part at 3:27 was so relaxing
Yes. It sounds like an instrument
i always loved the Nord sound but i'm not a keyboard player. Maybe a desktop version or a eurorack module would be the right one to buy for me.
So nice !!!
Sounds reminded a game Sega mega drive “Ecco dolphin”
A favourite game soundtrack!
You should work at Nord. I bought the keyboard and most of the presets rely on samples, which is not a bad thing in itself, but the synth is way more capable than that. An Electro can also play samples so this is what we expect to hear from a synth
Thank you 🙏🏿 !
some Hiroshi Yoshimura vibes at 4:47
Nice! Thanks for introducing me to Hiroshi Yoshimura!
But does it do "Jump" and "I'll Wait"?
@chief tp Whew! It passes the test!
The chord change from 6:25 to 6:30 is lovely.
Does anyone else think the sounds in this video were all kind of the same?
Nothing against True Cuckoo. Your reviews and tutorials are awesome!
Design never changes...A mountain of buttons to reuse since 2010 or something.
The “mountain of buttons” is the only advantage over a Yamaha MODX.
do you rather do menydiving instead of instant access?
I thought this sounds rather good. Up to now, my thoughts on Nord were they're a bit polite, and VA is all over the synth market today. Would love to get my fingers on NW2 to compare with other FM synths.
Yeah I think because the 4 layers can be totally independent from each other, you can create some pretty creative FM patches. On dedicated FM synths you often have much more creative freedom when it comes to building unique envelopes per operator, more algorithms, and taking it to the extreme. The Nordwave2 however is extremely simple to work with, so it's making FM much less challenging.
Rayy‘s Musikladen ehm....No its really not... not at all.
