Hi Mike, I enjoyed all your videos and I have been inspired by you and your videos to work for csx train company and drive the csx train in the future after college
Awesome Mike! I hope you're enjoying your retirement from CSX. Also, I saw a NS Dash 9 and a NS SD70M. Looks like a CSX intermodal with NS power. I see NS Dash 9s a lot because I railfan NS. Those are also some cool GEVOs you're driving!
Sweet video just like all the rest of them!!!! That was my dream job at one time. I'm in Mississippi & CN is our main railroad. I got so many partners that had different jobs from Amtrak engineers, CN engineers & conductors, BNSF conductor (that lives in Birmingham) you name it. BUT the first thing that come from their mouths is.49.. Aww man, you don't wanna do this, you'll be away from your friends & family. My response... Wth you mean!! You're doing it! Some folks just hate to see you on their level. But that's life.... I'm doing better than some of these jokers at a place called Walmart Distribution Center... 30 yrs & counting! Thank God for his blessings & health... ✌🏽
Nice videos bro, those were the good old days before all these inward facing cameras, its a different railroad these days brother! Hope you enjoying your retirement, there trying to go to 1 man crew
no, the conductor (who was outside the train making sure the cars coupled correctly) told him to make a reduction of pressure in the train brake pipe, to allow air to flow into the newly coupled cars. i think Mike said something like, "...applying, CSX 3092 over."
The crew were calling for "three step protection" before moving between the cars. Each railroad can have a slightly different process, but essentially it's doing three things so that the train absolutely ain't movin'. For CSX it is applying the train brake, placing the reverser in neutral, and opening the field generator switch. With 3 step applied it is deemed safe for the conductor or other crew to move into the space between the cars and ensure couplers are properly engaged, to link the brake pipes, and any other steps that might be needed before the connection is considered ready.
nice. I am willing to take the risk. I already signed an application to work at BNSF. I also got a cab tour of a GP60M-3. They did not let me record it. I have a cousin who worked at CSX named Jefferey Benton, who was a brakeman. Did you meet him before retiring?
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 yeah I see that, my dream job is to become an engineer or conductor for CN Railway on the Iron Range (Proctor, Forbes, Sprague, etc)
Hi Mike! Your videos are very realistic. That's cool! Please tell me, what is the maximum train weight per locomotive? And how many total can locomotives fasten? And that all the locomotives are controlled by one loc.ingineer? Thank's!
Great stuff! Hope you had a fun time with CSX and that retirement's still going good for you. Also, which railyard was that at 3:51? Looks like Chattanooga, TN, but I may be wrong.
Hi Mike Barnett I hope you enjoying your retirement my name is Donald King from Jacksonville FL you might have been to csx moncref yard. I'm 49 years old a railfan myself I wanted to get on the railroad if I wants to get on the railroad I would have you to get me on.
Hey Quick love the vids brother. Wanted to know if I could possibly buy your RAW ride footage for the audio only. Want to RIP some sounds out and add them into a simulator. Let me know if your interested.

@@brandonallen3400 the job of locomotive engineers has been glamorized throughout railroad history and some of the engineers of the past were legendary but today's trains can actually drive themselves no kidding they were implementing that technology just prior to my retirement 5 years ago
7:29 that phone sitting there is a violation of safety regs, isn't it? Off and away is the rule nowadays. Matter of fact i think that camera filming you is too, no? How did you keep your job? Only posted after retirement? Personally, I don't care. I appreciate this viewpoint, you can't get that unless you have this job. Maybe someday one of these railroads will hire me. Anyone know any particular credentials they might like so i can get my foot in the door?
Quick with that kind of job you have to be. You had the job i want more than.anything! I just never get hired. I guess the railroads really are cutting down on the amount of people they hire. Or my credentials just don't appeal to them.
Bryson look online for railroad job postings see if you can get an application in and keep it current perhaps a railroad will give you an interview, they are looking for a flexible person willing to travel or work any day or any hours including holidays as long as you are healthy and can articulate at a high school level you have as good a chance as anyone else...the best to you.
Quick Thanks for the response. Is a driver's license a necessity? Admittedly I never bothered getting one, since i live in a city in PA and everything i need is in walking distance. Besides, i can't afford even the crappiest of a used car. Could that be a reason they overlook me? I usually don't even get a response from.the companies i apply to saying they aren't interested.
The railroad expects you to have transportation and to operate a locomotive you have to have the FRA certification but an actual drivers license that I'm not sure..my short answer would be yes or at least make every effort to get one soon cause you never know.
Hi Mike. I have enjoyed your videos for 3 years now. Thank you for all the years of service you put in.

Are train horns loud in the cab? And do you have to start the engines up 1 by 1?

The max weight varies on series of locomotive somewhere between 1500 tons to 6000 tons as I remember. Controlled by one engineer most often
Very realistic? They are real. I dunno if that’s what you are trying to say or if it’s a language thing.
