- TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama fans hungry for a return to national-title contention filled Bryant-Denny Stadium for Nick Saban’s first spring game.
Kalen DeBoer steps into a much different situation 17 years later. DeBoer wrapped up his first spring with the Crimson Tide on Saturday just a few months into the task of trying to maintain the juggernaut Saban built while navigating a very different world of NIL and the transfer portal.
His unofficial debut at Bryant-Denny Stadium drew an announced crowd of 72,358 for the A-Day game, nearly 2,000 more than Husky Stadium’s capacity at Washington. If the scrimmage was not a true gauge of how Alabama will look in DeBoer’s first season, the turnout illustrates the level of interest - and perhaps curiosity and anxiety.

@@jasonx4590 All the QBs got bad snaps at some point throughout the game. Don't know who the center was at the time, but it was more than just one of them
@@1RIRVIN the defense was a base defense, basically cones or tackling dummies, as to not show too much of our defensive strategy, plays or formations to the rest of the league, which would give them 5 months to prepare for it. There are 10k more offensive plays and iterations of plays and formations, whereas there's not too many different things you can hide out of a 4-2-5 set. That is why the defense left a lot more to be desired, it was essentially I giant smoke screen as to not show our cards too early, defensively.

I’m at the Stadium for A-Day with a pair of High Powered Binoculars looking right at Milroe’s Face and he’s still not going through his reads and progressions. I’m not sure what DeBoer has to do to make Milroe look at the field of play.
Can we stop pretending Milroe is QB1? Very happy the defense tightened up at the end.
Yeah, Jalen still looks like Jalen. The 2 first passes....great! The rest of the time it was more of the same! If Jalen doesn't improve by the Wisconsin game, take a seat. I'm all for Jalen! But there is no fluidity w/ receivers! Something is missing. Ty Simpson needs to be ready to take the reins! Dylan Lonergan looks to be the man in the next couple of seasons!
Defense looked par. But I get new the new schemes to learn. Red Morgan....OH MY WORD!! This guy is going to be a MONSTER!!

It was hard to gauge the defense today as it was purposely not showcased.
Defense came on a little late but wound up doing well. Offense could be scary this year

What were the completion percentages. Tell the whole story.
Milroe was 3-9
Simpson was 7-12
Longergan was 8-12
Mack was 6-9

@marcusedwards2656 So do I.......most people do. I see a limited passer who struggles diagnosing simple coverages, and struggles with intermediate accuracy. I saw a 33% completion rate in a spring game where you can't hit the QB. Thats what I saw.....what did you see? I'm guessing you weren't part of the comments on "coach" Smooks video from the other day where he basically labeled anyone who criticizes Milroe for his lack of QB skills as "racists".
Wayyyy too much sleeping on Cole Adams. That kid is going to be a great. Similar to Slade Bolden, but more explosive and less slop in his route running. Watch out for

I went to A Game the RBs look like there going be a Problem for some teams. Like what i saw.
Hope haynes isnt nicked up too bad. Saw where it happened. About the 15 min mark full video. Up 14. Inside the 5. Gets body slammed and something obviously happened to his right collarbone/clavicle......Something....
Looked like Simpson was the best qb. Milroes finally found his short arm just need to make quicker decision/quicker release and better throws 5-15 yards still. 2 throws he connected I believe were his deep shots he usually hit good.

Milroe has a very slow processor, combine that with a terrible muscle bound arm and you have yourself a bad qb against a team like Michigan that comes after him.

Do you guys realize how much better Ty or DL would have been this spring if JM wasn’t given the job last year. Ty and/or DL would have been far better today the decision to waste a year on a RB instead of playing Ty or DL will go down as one of the greatest missteps of NS era. The year wasted has screwed KD’s transition.
Can we stop gassing lol offense and defense was ok today,give this team time to learn the new system,team is real young which is a good thing,dey will definitely grow together and be great in do time ,be patient !

I want to know what all these guys were seeing that ever thought JM was a QB! JM is the EXACT same RB he was last year, JM has no idea how to play QB first reception to 5 should have been INT MM literally stood there and watched, JM was his usual inaccurate self, Henderson wide open across middle, nope behind him! If JM is your starter this year is not going the way you think we will be lucky to win 8 games.

The whole room sucks. They need to look hard at the portal for a qb. I think Milroe will either hit the portal or change positions by fall.
They are in major league trouble. A west coast touchy feely coach and inexperienced staff have already lost control of one of the most disciplined teams in college football. The result, no energy or passion, no qb and just plain boring and sloppy. Georgia and Ohio St. both looked amazing and actually did have 70K fans there. Alabama is known for mulitplying by 2 or 3 when releasing numbers per Saban. It's over folks.

You all keep the mess going with the quarterbacks jalen Milroe is the best quarterback Ty is good but he doesn’t have the same traits as milroe I wish Milroe would leave and go to a fan base that appreciates him. We would not won several games last year without him
This is spring ball. At least Deboer had live competition and didn’t do like some of th other teams cop out. He said the defense was very vanilla. The offensive playbook is no where near fully installed. You had walkons playing how you completely judge this team from this. A bunch of Bama haters and some fair weather fans

I don't know what you were looking at, but the offense looked super smooth in the first half, especially on the first few drives. The defense bounced back and was very stout in the second half.
Just admit when Deboer proves you wrong it was Sabans time to go enjoy himself he left the program in a very good position

I have never witnessed a spectacular, mind blowing a-day ever. Literally a brand new team on practice number 15..to sit up here and pretend you can acquire meaningful observation from that makes you sound like a godamm idiot.
The fans can't see it. They are in serious trouble.
