      I have a question. When you are just removing an old one for a new you don't need to add any extra ring right?
      Thank you!

      Abazi Ndiaye When you remove the toilet, throw the old wax ring away. Clean the flange. Then use a new wax ring or the green gasket. If the flange is more than 3/8” lower than the floor, then you can use 2 green gaskets - or a Oatly flange spacer & (the Green gasket or a wax ring.)

    I'm in the eel business and here's a pro tip from someone who removes and replaces toilets hundreds of times a year. When putting the bolts onto the flange I carry extra nuts and washers and attach the bolts to the flange in the perfect position. It makes putting the toilet on much easier because the bolts don't move and it also makes sure you perfectly align the toilet over the pipe. I've seen many toilets installed that are offset and end up blocking up because it was hard for the installer to line up the holes with the toilet bolts and it shifted. It also makes it easier to remove the nuts a few years later after everything starts to corrode and freeze up.
    If your flange happens to be below the floor level, get yourself an extra thick seal instead of piling one on top of the other.

    Wonder how the green gasket will work in the long run. I know the wax rings with rubber funnels warp over time causing splash back and leakage with every flush. Ideally the plumber installs a flange after the floor is done so it sits on top of the tile. Flanges should literally be one of the last installations after the construction of a new house or bathroom. In a case like this I would have tore out the old flange and installed a new one. Might be your next DIY video in five years. Actually I would like to see that.

    • @NassrinsDIY

    • @ReelGuyTv
      @ReelGuyTv 5 років тому

      @@NassrinsDIY I just read the reviews on this thing. I'd just get rid of it now. Water damage to the subfloor or house foundation is not worth saving one or two hours of getting a new flange in there. OR just get some spacers on top of the existing flange and use a wax ring.

    Hi Nassrin I need your opinion. I'm having new tile put in on one of our bathroom (no I'm letting an expert do it) and I have removed the old toilet and removed the old tile which was a lot of work, this way I save labor on the tile guy. The toilet I removed is a low flush 1.8 gpf round and 26 yrs old. Should I replace it with a new 1.28 gpf toilet which should do a better job of flushing or just re-install the old toilet? I will be doing this sometime next week. Thanks.

    Yo babe: Next time do not use shims. They will dislodge and cause a real problem. In short NEVER use 'em. Use : Plaster of Paris. Set the toilet where you want it. Mark the outline. Now you can remove the toilet and mask off the area outside the mark with tape & reset the toilet ( check for right orientation) & cut the tape line along the toilet lift it again and remove the tale inside the cut. Then lay a bead of plaster down along the periphery of the toilet and carefully set the toilet. I usually skip the whole tape thing and just clean with water and a rag. But you seem a little more particular so use tape. When you peel the tape up it removes the still damp plaster. Do that while it's pliable. The toilet will NEVER rock if you use plaster.
