- I have been using this 5500C3 reel for almost three years now. This is a quick review. Also time to upgrade with the factory power handle and do a little bit services to the reel. Here is how I do it.
This is the ABU reel amzn.to/2MwT3GR

Glad it helped! 👍
Very helpful, tu
Glad it helped!. Thanks for watching my video!
Outside of the little cwasher, it was an easy install
Thank you for watching my video.
Do you know if the power handle abu sells will fit and work with the cheaper abu garcia Ambassador s 5500? I got one I use and love for catfishing. I also have a c3 that I put one on but I didn't have the 120 bucks to buy another c3 5500, so I bought an ambassador S 5500. It's still an abu it's just made in China instead of Sweden.
Thanks for watching my video. Unfortunately I don't have any info for S5500. It does looks just like the C3.
@@HypergaugeDIY yeah it's built and looks the exact same except a few small differences. I'll find out soon enough. It looks like it is on and fitted the same as other abu gracias handles.
meu sonho é ter uma dessas top de linha.
C3 is very low level badic reel
that little "washer" you didn't put on was actually to keep the nut from coming lose.
I just got one of these and the cover does the same function. It is molded to hug the nut so it cannot spin in the same manner that "washer" is machined. I dont know why these clowns at Abu didnt include any instructions
@@bobbarker2515 You are correct. They only supply it in case you'd rather use it instead of the plastic cover/retainer. Some other Abus only use the metal retainers...like the C4s for example.
Can I ask your opinion on using this for fluke fishing with up to 8 oz of lead as long as I have a rod to support the weight ?
This reel is kind of small for it. It will work if you must, but I will not recommend it.
I was wondering if there would be any benefit to remove the little plastic thumb rest. On top the spool
Thanks for watching my video. I would say no unless it is somehow damaged. It is very tight fit and not a moving part.
@@HypergaugeDIY It does actually move. It flips upward to give you more room to when thumbing the spool if needed. After you flip it up it just snaps off due to 2 little hooks where it clips to the frame bar. Real simple.
I don't know how many of those C clips i've lost while trying to put it back on, i'm here cuz I just lost another one and I only have one left, mine does not go on as easy as yours did in fact it takes a fair amount of pressure and the thing goes flying across the room never to be found. Thought maybe there was a trick to it.
I took a small piece of scotch tape and put it over top of the retainer ring it helped a little bit lol or tie some 4lb test to it good luck
Take it off while holding the reel inside of a pillow case? Dunno, could work.
What length rod do you use with it ?
+ PolarZombie: For surf fishing, I use it with a 10’ heavy salmon rod for perch or striped bass fishing. For crab snaring, I use it with a cheap 10’ heavy surf rod.
HI, can the double side reel for this model be used in Abu c3 6500
Yup mine flew across the room , its no.where to be found , im going to start doing this inside a tent lol.
Thanks for watching my video. Sorry to hear that. If you have the ACE hardware store nearby they maybe able to help get a replacement for you. It is a lot cheaper than getting it from ABU. Good luck.
It is best to use a pair of snap ring pliers to remove it
No, it's a C clip, not a snap ring. You don't use snap ring pliers for c-clps. You use a miniature screwdriver.
Can you change the knob on the power handle?
My knob does not seems to be easily changeable. There is no screw exposed. I guess you can still cut it out and remount it with screw. Just not simple.
