Noone ever talks about how interactive the music in SSX games really was - You'd only get Rhythm Section for your music tracks if you play subpar, top layers unlocking when you play better, Filter FX when you're catching big air... Waiting for someone to really make a video demonstrating that, This was a gamechanger.
I never realized this at all. I was 11 playing ssx tricky so I was totally unaware of what was happening in terms of audio. I’m surprised I’ve never seen anyone talk about this either. Not a whole lot of games we’re doing that at the time
Yes it was definitely ahead of it's time. With the software we had called Pathfinder, we were doing interactive music years ahead of what anyone else was doing. Syncing RAM samples with a music stream was not done in mass until Guitar Hero years later.
Damn this brings back good memories. They don’t make em like this anymore. I probably watched this a hundred times back in the day. Big ups to John and Mike.
You have no idea how much the soundtracks from the SSX Tricky and SSX3 games influenced me over the years. I know you must get asked this a lot (and I'm sure there may be rights issues too) but it would be amazing to share some of your original scores from those games!
Hey Pete - That's cool - it was a lot of fun working on those games and so many people loved the music. I'll try to get some of these songs up on this channel. I think most of them are posted here and there by others, but it'd be great to have them all in one place.
The way those early LCDs are integrated into the desk still looks great. With how much more is done on computers today it makes sense why the screens have become more of a focus. But this is walking the fine line between showing them off while not drawing too much attention to them.
Hey John, been really enjoying the videos on your channel. Can't say enough thanks to you and your team for this game. Grew up playing this a ton & it's a huge reason why I make music today. I produce experimental bass music under the name Slaycub, and I made a bootleg remix of the main menu track with a bunch of sounds from the game - wondering what would be the best way to send it to you, if you're interested in giving it a listen. Thanks in advance!
Super cool video and channel! I used to love these games and their soundtracks! If you are looking for weird patch ideas for your 2600m I have a ton of videos on the behringer version that might give you some ideas.
Hey ! Do you remember what kind of synth was used for the soundtracks of the game ! Ive really liked the sounddesign of the whole soundtracks. And would like to experiment with it !
Hey GIZ - yes. I had the following. Novation Supernova, Roland TB-303, TR-808, Korg MonoPoly, Akai S-3000, Korg MS2000, Roland Jupiter-8. It was all sequenced using Cubase for mac and then tracked at the EA studios onto 6 DA-88's for mixing. No audio DAW as we know them now was used.
You created part of my childhood. Thanks John !

Remember watching this video over and over as a teenager and being mesmerized by all the gear

@@johnnymorgansynthdreams that’s awesome to hear!
Incredible
Yeah dude I loved how the music responded to the game.
Had no clue mix master had anything anything to do with the soundtrack.
Thanks - SSX was first game to use RAM based overlays for music that synced the streaming music from gameplay.

Did you guys have any sample clearance issues?
yeah lots - but we did them all. took a while- legal dept wasn't too happy with us.
@@johnnymorgansynthdreams wow. That’s awesome. They were totally trusting of you guys to spend the money.
lol 556
SSX3 was easily the best of the series - Tricky was a disappointment by comparison..
