I really enjoyed the first 10 minutes. Penn Station is my second home Those tunnels are my office I have actually walked from Long Island City to Penn Station on that benchwall. And the first stop Woodside with the 7 subway train above is my stop I live around the block from there. Very cool to see it from this view. I've taken the train to Babylon, Ronkonkoma, and the Greenport branch to Riverhead. Love the LIRR.
For anyone wondering what is past Babylon: Obviously the electrified yard that is made up of nearly two dozen tracks for electrified cars. Diesel trains continue Eastward, usually terminating at Patchogue, Speonk, or Montauk. Sixteen stations occupy diesel territory, going from West to East from Babylon: -Bay Shore. -Islip. -Oakdale. -Great River. -Sayville. -Patchogue. -Bellport. -Mastic Shirley. -Speonk. -Westhampton. -Hampton Bays. -Southampton. -Bridgehampton. -East Hampton. -Amagansett. -Montauk.
Always liked the single unit rotary style camshaft master controller on the m1/m3 , wish they'd bring them back. NYCTA rolling stock now has the T-handle twist and pivot units. Imho, not visually cool. The pre-goh twist and SLIDE stainless steel, anvil shaped master controllers on the NYCTA r44 and r46 looked really nice.. Straight out of "Logans Run " or "THX-1138." Just my $.02 .. Whaddaya think?
Well it depends. There are 4 tubes that connect LIC to Penn Station. 2 the LIRR primarily use. The other 2 go to Sunnyside yards that's Amtrak and have far less train traffic. They are in far worse shape than the Jersey tunnels which are only 2. The Jersey tunnels are longer so some spots are in good shape others are not really depends on which section of the tunnel you are.
When was this filmed? Edit: nevermind, must’ve been on the upload date because at 6:36 you can see they’ve made major progress on the Harold bypass northbound tunnel approach

I enjoyed that thank you for making this video.
Is "Hall Tower" still a manned tower?
I noticed that the East River tube appeared to be in good condition compared to the Hudson tube . Did hurricane Sandy only affect the Hudson tubes ?

The Montauk branch continues (non-electrified) to Montauk aka diesel territory

Nah, they litteraly used to fly through the tunnels. They actually drag these days. Back in the 70's they would fly !
