The best way to take care of the wounded inner child and deal with the trauma's of life. Is to take care of a child in front of you and help someone else deal with the trauma you wish you didn't have. Through moments of empathy do we save others and ourselves.

None of them were obligated morally or otherwise to care for a stray but they did. I really miss them, and I credit her for keeping the light in my heart going.

It still happens even today. I no longer do sex work, but I did for almost 5 years. I always stick up for the kids in my neighborhood, buy them food, and I'm often the only person who cares about what these kiddos are going through. I honestly feel like being a sex worker, and everything I went through when I was homeless, honestly taught me so much. Swooped me up and brought us home. Back then respect was a big deal even amongst the baddest “criminals”.

I was a divorced mom of 3 trying to start over and this crack head lady would help me with my disabled son and clean my house. She didnt want me to lose hope like she did and my moving forward helped her have hope. I finished my degree and moved out of town. She was so happy for us. She is still struggling with addiction.

I can't count how many boys I've fed. I have 4 sons and some kids that's the only meal they would have, and some were single moms just working their asses off. Yo, this story resonates hard for me. We lived in a broken down trailer behind a building Fayetteville, NC back in the 70's. There's a reason it was nicknamed "fayettnam". Drugs and prostitution were crazy. My mother didn't speak english and we think was the only Korean lady there. My Dad was a merchant marine and was gone all the time leaving us with no money. I was 5 and she would hold my hand and we would walk past all the prostitutes and drug dealers. I remember they would always step in front of us trying to pimp my Mom but, she didn't speak english so they'd get frustrated, push her out of the way and leave. (I think she spoke it well enough to pretend) Well I decided one day I was going to run away. I think I was 6. My Dad was like ok we're packing you a bag. They purposefully packed it so full of shit it was hard to carry. It was to dissuade me but, I'm stubborn like my Dad and took off any way. I got to the main street where all the pro's were at and they recognized me. At least 6 of them sat me down on the street. I always wanted to be friends with them. I had always thought they were pretty with the heavy makeup and stilettos. One chika sat me down and asked if I was hungry. She had tamales. I was crying and told her I had cereal in my bag as I didn't know what tamales were. She got out the cereal for me and we talked. She was from Chihuahua. I thought it was funny that she was from a dog place ( I was 6 and not in school yet). I had plastic butter bowls (you know) and we sat and ate cereal while she told me she had run away. The whole time there were like 6 women surrounding us and I realize in my older age they were protecting me. Chika held me, pet my head, and told me how lucky I was to have a home and a loving family who tried. She was also crying. She helped me repack my bag, get me my fav pillow to hold, and held my hand to walk me home. We walked and chatted. In a block right around the corner was my Dad. He was crying and later told me he had been there just out of my sight watching over me. Chika handed me off to my Dad and we went home. After that, no one EVER bothered my mother again and I recognized some of the pretty ladies who had been surrounding us. They always waved and were so sweet. I never saw that chika again though. In my heart, I hope she took her own advice and went back home too. She was such a sweetheart. Now, tamales are my 100% favorite food and I have helped close to 20 pretty ladies escape the life and get back home safe. I used to live on 104th and Figueroa (hoe stroll) and my neighbors were prostitutes. There's some truth to that, I grew up in the ghetto and although there would be fights the majority of neighbors got along. When I moved with my husband to the suburbs it was the summer and I swear I did not see a kid in sight! I questioned if all the neighbors were all in vacation, lol!
when i was about 7 years old, i had a neighbour of mine who would always invite me over to eat soup and watch movies. before then, i had never tried the canned soup, like cream of mushroom and stuff like that, nor seen many movies as i was still quite young and came from an immigrant household. she was an older women, possibly in her 60s-70s, and from what i remember, she lived alone. i absolutely loved going to her house, and i don’t even remember how it started. she would call the house, or i would call and ask to come over around the same time every night, like a tradition. one memory in particular, really the only memory i have left, is her asking me which soup i wanted, and putting on monster house. we talked about our days while watching the movie, and she would send me off before it got too late. i always think of her. now looking back, maybe i was the daughter she never had, or maybe all her kids had moved out by then and she missed having children around the house. either way, i didn’t have a good bond with my mom at the time, as she and my father were physically and emotionally abusive to my siblings and i, so any time i went over to her house, it was like my home, away from home. i really miss her, and i really hope she’s well. that’s one memory, i wish i could go back and relive again, just to tell her thank you. she left a huge impression on me as a child, especially considering, she gave me all i wanted as a child. love.

Let me drop this homemade Hamburger Helper Recipe for the fellas I Never been on the stroll though 🦋🦋🦋 One box of Elbow Macaroni Not Mueller’s it gets mushy One lb of Impossible Meat or ground beef One Onion One Green Pepper 1cup of Milk or Almond Milk Salt Pepper Garlic Powder Paprika Sazon’ Complete Seasoning 2 tablespoons of mustard Shredded Gouda Cheese Shredded Sharp Cheddar Shredded Mexican Blend Cheese A tablespoon or two of butter A pinch of sugar One or tablespoons of yellow mustard. Put oil in a frying pan hear the sizzle , then add plant based ground or ground beef. Next add in your green pepper and onion Add them seasoning right along. Once cooked, drain some of the natural oil off, and set cooked ground beef aside. Hopefully while ground beef was cooking water was boiling for macaroni. Add macaroni to boiling water, always add a little salt to boiling water before Macaroni added. Once macaroni cooks, strain the water off. Save a little pasta water. Add the macaroni, to the cooked seasoned ground beef that has a lil oil in it. Toss in about a tablespoon of butter Mix in all the cheese, add some of that yellow mustard. The add the milk, all should be on a medium heat. If cooked right it will be creamy, not watery. Add a pinch of sugar. Once done it’s the best Recipe ever for Hamburger Helper. Takes about an hour with prepping time to cook.

My parents are Mexican, I grew up in SoCal, prominent Mexican-American city, in the hood. It was the older big homies and OGs that would watch out for me and protect the street vendors. I remember when the cops would come by to patrol or something, they'd tell me to go and tell my tia and grandma and the neighbors because a lot of them were immigrants without papers and they would stay inside to avoid trouble from the police. I remember there was always people coming and going from this one house down the street and they told me to stay away from there and if anyone from there talks to me or anything to tell them. Like 3 months later the bear truck and all rolled up and ripped off the screen door and window bars and raided the place. My parents saved up and did good and we moved out into the suburbs but I consider that place home.

Weird night and i just remember too being deeply saddened as i asked the question of why do you do this and not just sell dope or something and she said she just didn't care after she lossed a baby son apparently and said she just hasnt cared since. Hope she found something worth living for all these years later if still alive somewhere.

He would eat with us and play with the baby. The kid was smart. Man I loved that kid. I would buy him stuff when I could. My husband ran into him years later I wish I could have seen him. My son is 20 so Robert must be about 27.

Yo, this story resonates hard for me. We lived in a broken down trailer behind a building Fayetteville, NC back in the 70's. There's a reason it was nicknamed "fayettnam". Drugs and prostitution were crazy. My mother didn't speak english and we think was the only Korean lady there. My Dad was a merchant marine and was gone all the time leaving us with no money. I was 5 and she would hold my hand and we would walk past all the prostitutes and drug dealers. I remember they would always step in front of us trying to pimp my Mom but, she didn't speak english so they'd get frustrated, push her out of the way and leave. (I think she spoke it well enough to pretend)
Well I decided one day I was going to run away. I think I was 6. My Dad was like ok we're packing you a bag. They purposefully packed it so full of shit it was hard to carry. It was to dissuade me but, I'm stubborn like my Dad and took off any way. I got to the main street where all the pro's were at and they recognized me. At least 6 of them sat me down on the street. I always wanted to be friends with them. I had always thought they were pretty with the heavy makeup and stilettos. One chika sat me down and asked if I was hungry. She had tamales. I was crying and told her I had cereal in my bag as I didn't know what tamales were. She got out the cereal for me and we talked. She was from Chihuahua. I thought it was funny that she was from a dog place ( I was 6 and not in school yet). I had plastic butter bowls (you know) and we sat and ate cereal while she told me she had run away. The whole time there were like 6 women surrounding us and I realize in my older age they were protecting me. Chika held me, pet my head, and told me how lucky I was to have a home and a loving family who tried. She was also crying. She helped me repack my bag, get me my fav pillow to hold, and held my hand to walk me home.
We walked and chatted. In a block right around the corner was my Dad. He was crying and later told me he had been there just out of my sight watching over me. Chika handed me off to my Dad and we went home.
After that, no one EVER bothered my mother again and I recognized some of the pretty ladies who had been surrounding us. They always waved and were so sweet. I never saw that chika again though. In my heart, I hope she took her own advice and went back home too. She was such a sweetheart.
Now, tamales are my 100% favorite food and I have helped close to 20 pretty ladies escape the life and get back home safe. It's my secret penance I happily pay for the love that chika showed a little korean run away.

I used to live on 104th and Figueroa (hoe stroll) and my neighbors were prostitutes. My dad was the appartment manager, sometimes they would knock at the door looking for my dad to get something fixed or pay their rent. On several occasions, I'd tell them he wasn't home yet, and they would say OK ill come back later and then ask me if I've eaten. I'd say no and they would bring me mcdonalds or something from tams. I'll never forget it and I'll always pay it forward!!

There's some truth to that, I grew up in the ghetto and although there would be fights the majority of neighbors got along. When I moved with my husband to the suburbs it was the summer and I swear I did not see a kid in sight! I questioned if all the neighbors were all in vacation, lol!

when i was about 7 years old, i had a neighbour of mine who would always invite me over to eat soup and watch movies. before then, i had never tried the canned soup, like cream of mushroom and stuff like that, nor seen many movies as i was still quite young and came from an immigrant household. she was an older women, possibly in her 60s-70s, and from what i remember, she lived alone. i absolutely loved going to her house, and i don’t even remember how it started. she would call the house, or i would call and ask to come over around the same time every night, like a tradition. one memory in particular, really the only memory i have left, is her asking me which soup i wanted, and putting on monster house. we talked about our days while watching the movie, and she would send me off before it got too late. i always think of her. now looking back, maybe i was the daughter she never had, or maybe all her kids had moved out by then and she missed having children around the house. either way, i didn’t have a good bond with my mom at the time, as she and my father were physically and emotionally abusive to my siblings and i, so any time i went over to her house, it was like my home, away from home. i really miss her, and i really hope she’s well. that’s one memory, i wish i could go back and relive again, just to tell her thank you. she left a huge impression on me as a child, especially considering, she gave me all i wanted as a child. love.

I use to get money from a prostitute we called God momma when I was a kid. She always said give God momma a hug and I will give you some money. I would always grab the money and run. Back in the day, it was the corner men who were the unofficial neighborhood watch. I know they saved me quite a few times as a young girl and teenager with a creepy predator following me. My mom always cautioned me away from the corner men, but they were the ones she didn't have to worry about. They always looked out for kids and elderly back then .

I Never been on the stroll though 🦋🦋🦋
One box of Elbow Macaroni
Not Mueller’s it gets mushy
One lb of Impossible Meat or ground beef
One Onion
One Green Pepper
1cup of Milk or Almond Milk
Salt
Pepper
Garlic Powder
Paprika
Sazon’
Complete Seasoning
2 tablespoons of mustard
Shredded Gouda Cheese
Shredded Sharp Cheddar
Shredded Mexican Blend Cheese
A tablespoon or two of butter
A pinch of sugar
One or tablespoons of yellow mustard.
Put oil in a frying pan hear the sizzle , then add plant based ground or ground beef.
Next add in your green pepper and onion
Add them seasoning right along.
Once cooked, drain some of the natural oil off, and set cooked ground beef aside.
Hopefully while ground beef was cooking water was boiling for macaroni.
Add macaroni to boiling water, always add a little salt to boiling water before Macaroni added.
Once macaroni cooks, strain the water off. Save a little pasta water.
Add the macaroni, to the cooked seasoned ground beef that has a lil oil in it.
Toss in about a tablespoon of butter
Mix in all the cheese, add some of that yellow mustard.
The add the milk, all should be on a medium heat.
If cooked right it will be creamy, not watery.
Add a pinch of sugar.
Once done it’s the best Recipe ever for Hamburger Helper.
Takes about an hour with prepping time to cook.

My parents are Mexican, I grew up in SoCal, prominent Mexican-American city, in the hood. It was the older big homies and OGs that would watch out for me and protect the street vendors. I remember when the cops would come by to patrol or something, they'd tell me to go and tell my tia and grandma and the neighbors because a lot of them were immigrants without papers and they would stay inside to avoid trouble from the police. I remember there was always people coming and going from this one house down the street and they told me to stay away from there and if anyone from there talks to me or anything to tell them. Like 3 months later the bear truck and all rolled up and ripped off the screen door and window bars and raided the place.
My parents saved up and did good and we moved out into the suburbs but I consider that place home.

To which she wanted us to run by and help collect money from a john and was told thered be no threat whatsoever. We dumbly said yes but luckly wasnt a threat or any settup just a old white guy scared shitless that his wife who was home when we popped up would figure his game, so guy was more then happy to give us the money and with a lil interest and we got tossed some cash and xanax and dropped her off. Weird night and i just remember too being deeply saddened as i asked the question of why do you do this and not just sell dope or something and she said she just didn't care after she lossed a baby son apparently and said she just hasnt cared since. Hope she found something worth living for all these years later if still alive somewhere.

When I was 21 I had my 1 year old baby and boyfriend we were in our 1st apartment. There was a young Mexican kid named Robert his mom was kinda out there on meth. She was cool just going through her demons. He would run around the complex dirty with no shoes on. I always invited him to come over and hang with my son/boyfriend and myself. He would eat with us and play with the baby. The kid was smart. Man I loved that kid. I would buy him stuff when I could. My husband ran into him years later I wish I could have seen him. My son is 20 so Robert must be about 27.
God bless this woman in this life and in the next. We all live lives that sometimes we wish we could change, but its all part of our souls evolution, and surviving the ghettos back in the day was NO JOKE. If you weren't getting hit up on every corner then it was pedos/recruiters trying to trap you. But if you feel me then bless up because we didnt make it just to make it and God keeps track of everything so bless up and stay up 👆🏼
