In lost children arc Guts was going to slay Jill. Her father saved her by shooting Guts with a crossbow.
During 100 years war Guts was a mercenary. He killed people not because he had to like normal soldier, but because he wanted to do it.
I like Guts but there is no deny that he likes to kill. He's not the typical good guy.
