The project was well planned and executed, very informative. The choice of Ryobi tools was very good. I have used them for years. Great bang for the buck. The choice you made to seek shelter under the bridge was tactically sound. I would suggest using a solar powered strobe light, for safety it makes sense. If you have a problem it would make you much easier to spot. Also I would suggest carrying a good knife, that is properly sharpened. A knife is a very valuable tool. Look for one you can affix a lanyard to and attach it to your life jacket. loved the video, it's a beautiful lake. Thank you.
Kudos the Marina Owner for allowing Lisa to have a spot via the dock, and of course not billing her (Hero in my eyes ) ....and for making the dock wheel chair accessible
Staying under the bridge was the best option, but wow the trip up the creek was something else all the greenery and rain is what us desert dwellers dream of!
Another amazing video! I would have done the same thing- hunkered down under bridge till the storm passed , don’t want to be in open water with lightning around or on the dock in a metal wheelchair! 😊
Greetings from Maine. Thanks for sharing some of your days with the UA-cam community. I wish you the best in all your endeavors and look forward to your next video.
I was once stuck in the middle of the Rappahannock river, on a rock with two other people, in the middle of a nasty thunder and lightning storm. It was quite terrifying with only two equally scary options. In your situation, I would have opted for under the bridge.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I am amazed by your strength (both physically and mentally!, ingenuity, perseverance, courage and heart! You are such an inspiration! As for what I would have done in your situation? I would have one of two things, either sit it out as you did or call for assistance. Venturing out into a thunderstorm is just asking for trouble. Have a great week. See you in your next adventure! Cheers!

I still love my couch lol, but I’m trying new things and pushing myself forward in life instead of being stuck in the same ole routine! Thank you ❤
You can't trust the weather channel. I didn't even know you were not supposed to be on the water in a thunder and lightening storm. Thanks! I learned something. P.S. I pick up garbage too. Good on ya!
You did good going for cover under the bridge, but always golden rule is always prepare for any outing, I'm surprised the you don't have the water skirt for your kayack, but love the scenery and yes anytime I'm out I'm always picking up garbage, keep smiling
Staying under the bridge made a direct strike less likely and the kayak material should work as insulation against any strikes nearby that could transfer electrical current into the water.
Hi Lisa! I would have done exactly what you did. I would have pulled my paddle out of the water and spent the waiting time praying. But that's the price we pay for the adventure we seek.🤗
Exactly!! I kept drifting out from the bridge because I didn’t want to touch it and tried to keep my paddle out. A time lapse of me trying to manage that would’ve been funny to watch.
You accomplish more than most people I know. Have you ever been scuba diving, or had an interest? As a dive instructor, I have taken a few people diving with me who were in wheelchairs. We mostly dove on wreck , which are really convenient for beginners in wheelchairs because of the solid flat surfaces of the ships or bridge rubbles, and they are some of my favorite too because they tend to hold a lot of marine life. Good job on the cover. Looks professional to me!
I’m amazed again by your ingenuity. I kayak too but never knew about using rivets in plastic. I’ve wanted to make a similar cover but didn’t consider how to attach it to my kayak. Thanks for doing that demo. I know what my next project will be. That was smart thinking to take cover under the bridge during the storm. Likely that was your best option to wait out the storm. Well done!
Good call taking shelter under the bridge I would have done the same you’re right when there’s thunder usually lightning follows I will say you make me think what would I do thanks for your wonderful videos. ❤❤

Good choice I would of done the same thing I have been in a little storm in a small boat didn't have a bridge but foundvsome trees and pulled up in them for some protection. New to your channel but really liking your ambition. Respect! 🫶
This is so impressive, you sure are organized and strong. Also what a lot of work when you include having to set up cameras. My only suggestion as a paddler would be to eventually invest in an ocean kayak that tracks better, very useful when you are on more open water and encounter high winds and waves.
Ah thanks. Yes, it would be nice to invest in a better kayak but at the same time I leave it unattended in the marina all summer long so I wouldn't want to have something that is too expensive that I'd be upset if it was stolen.
I like your boating arrangement. Great way to relax (when there is no storm). What you did would have been my second choice. I don't perceive lightning as being much of a danger. (I´m not saying I'm right, it's just my perception of it. In 69 years of life I have only ever observed one lightning strike, well I heard it then saw the results, despite having witnessed many storms). So my choice would have been to paddle home as quickly as possible, and accept the fact that I will get wet.
Wow, that was scary. You handled it so well. Your brain operates well in crisis situation, impressive. I think your engineering background helps you manage so many things as far as being able to think Clearly with so many challenges at once. I so respect that. I think you did the right thing although I might have panicked and wanted someone to come help, but then even transferring you to a car would have been risky too I imagine. Thanks for sharing your strength and courage here. You are a beautiful soul inside n out. Cheers from Seattle. So healthy for the brain to see new environments and I know it really helps me with C-PTSD. Love a kayak or paddle day even though I have POTS/ CFS/ME.
That’s funny you pointed out how calm I operate in crisis. Even when I had my spinal cord injury and couldn’t walk, I was so calm the doctor that saw me didn’t believe me and sent me home! Usually that calmness is a good thing but not in the hospital 🤦♀️
@@Keepinitwheel306 So sorry to hear that, but I so can relate. I just can't believe with your incredibly Serious injury and not being able to walk that they didn't take you serious, so sorry you had to go thru that , not right. I had a situation too where because I looked so fit at that time cuz I was a personal trainer when I got ill that not my docs, therapist and even my parents believed my condition. It was nuts and still is. I'm so happy that you have access to that lake and I hope more become available. The park in my hood is just finishing up a fully wheelchair accessible path thru a botanical garden and it's gonna be so great here in Seattle. It's small but gorgeous. You are so brave and I respect how you live your life and hope you have many fun places to explore safely. xx

full marks for self-sufficiency, Lisa. People might forget you are a mechanical engineer. Maybe tell us more about that sometime. Maybe go do a double show with quickdickmcdick, in sask !
A good looking project. Just a hint, drills are not the best thing to make holes in fabric, although it seemed to work fine here. It's usually best to use some kind of hole punch available at auto parts stores or handicraft stores. The problem with drills is that many times they will catch threads in the fabric and put pulls in the fabric and/or balls up on the bit. Please don't ask how I know this. As for what to do, you did the right thing, you took shelter and waited out the storm. Keep the good stuff coming Lisa, I enjoy your channel.
I 100% agree that a drill wasn’t the best option (I’ve tried drilling through strapping before) but I was just working with the tools I had on hand and the canvas was pretty easy to manage.
Found your channel thru the van tour you did for Chrome! I subscribed yesterday. You’re amazing and your van is amazing. It’s incredibly hard to say what I would have done if I were you, but if I were me I would have done exactly what you did and I’m not wheelchair bound as my mobility challenges are not as severe. So I think you absolutely did the right thing for the reasons you stated. I’m looking forward to going back through your channel and binge watching!
I took my kayak out once and there was a tropical storm down in Florida heading my way but not there yet. On the trip up the river, the weather was great however, the last half mile of the downriver trip, where I had to paddle in the lake, the wind picked up and was blowing against me. It took me an hour and a half and people in boats kept pulling up to tell me how much it must suck to paddle in the wind. I would have and have done what you did and waited it out.
@@rvvancouverisland4602 hi! Thanks! I’ve stopped promoting it since I found out that there are still 700 people left, even though it’s called a quarterfinals. The person with friends and family with deep pockets will win, so I stopped asking for votes. Appreciate that you kept it up though 🙌
I would have legit done the same… Do you have a drone? I’m interested to know how you get the footage on the water when you are coming towards the camera or going past 😂 x
I have a very cheap Costco drone that a friend gave me but I never use it because it drifts too much 😂😂 I would place my GoPro on a dam or fallen tree and then paddle back to retrieve it. I do hope to purchase one of those “follow me” drones down the road, I think that would be cool.
Rich content video, good story line, beautiful area. Neat kayak cover project. Pro move to take under-bridge shelter. Thanks for sharing this adventure.
I think first I would have panicked haha and then I would’ve called someone, just because I know I can’t wait for too long in un uncomfortable position for my back
I don’t think I’ve come across a stealth camping, under a bridge, on a kayak, in a thunderstorm UA-cam video yet? But I’m not saying I would make one! It takes me all day just to figure out how to strap the trolley wheels to the kayak!
Yep! All solo. I have to backtrack and get my camera for some of the paddling shots but I think the effort is worth it so viewers get a good understanding of the scenery 🤗
It was nerve wracking but considering the alternatives it seemed like the best course of action. One commenter suggested I carry a book for times like this and that would’ve helped a lot.
You don’t know how many times I almost dialed my friend…but then didn’t want to seem dramatic. If the storm was more violent I would’ve followed through for sure lol
You are one helluva cinematographer. Also, I'm from L.A. & never heard Southern California pronounced like "South"ern. Looked it up, it's a Canadian thang! ;p
Wait what!? I’m pronouncing it differently? Must be the Canadian accent. I did get told I was pronouncing Oregon wrong because I was announcing every syllable instead of saying “Orgun” haha

Good morning from Godley Texas, you remain an inspiration to thousands. I would have sought shelter as you did. Still on the water, but some protection is available. Continue living life to the fullest by doing what you love 😎
Thanks 👍 and cheers from Saskatchewan
awesome vid as always👍
Appreciate that
So cool, living the dream.Go girl
You are inspiration to everyone. I think your choice to stay under the bridge was the best idea. ❤
Thanks for saying that, it's good to know others agree with my decision
ps Her name is Amanda Boxtel ( everyone should look her up ...its from 2013 (Worth the LOOK)
Thats wild, very advanced stuff going on!!!🫶💯
Adventure is your Middle name....thats for sure, As for your future kiteboarding lesson.....cant wait to see it (YOU tube it....there was a women who had a special made board via friends and she actually got up riding....( ps I know you like surf...like myself (feeling of the rush of the waves and water) Cheers...mon amin (Bruce)
Oh man kiteboarding sounds so difficult! Maybe I’d try kiting in water first, the landing might be better when I fall.
@@Keepinitwheel306 YES....its called body dragging and you learn to use your arms as a rudder...(we do it to find our boards after falling from a jump...lol P.s if anyone could do it...iTS you LIsa...(Full confidence) and of course Full SEND!! Cheers...xoxo
You are such an inspiration. Thank you!
@@Keepinitwheel306 Wow!
You are so brave and I respect how you live your life and hope you have many fun places to explore safely. xx
@@Keepinitwheel306thats krazy he sent you home and thou u were lie'in!!!🤯 wt?
Hi Lisa, thank you for the inspiration for all the people out there that has a disability you only a limited to your imagination. There’s always something out there that you can do to have an enjoyment , I’m amputee and it doesn’t stop me that much to do things only slows you down you have to think about what you are doing. I enjoy going camping, especially with my two dogs anyway keep up the good work always enjoy your videos and your wonderful big smile and your beautiful eyes Cliff from Australia 🇦🇺 😊
I’m glad you’re not letting life’s curveballs slow you down!
@@Keepinitwheel306 the biggest problem as an amputee 33% commit suicide year in Australia. They have no hope but I just keep doing when I do ride motorbikes go camping etc etc and when I see people like you, it just inspires me to continue to do more appreciate you from Australia.
@@bishopkinlyside8477i watch this guy jeffie bear on you tube, he is an amputee also, love his vanlife channel camping and enjoying life to its fullest.💪💯🫶
Did right thing by staying under cover.
full marks for self-sufficiency, Lisa. People might forget you are a mechanical engineer. Maybe tell us more about that sometime. Maybe go do a double show with quickdickmcdick, in sask !
Oooh that guy is so funny, I’d be in stitches the entire time
A good looking project.
@@Keepinitwheel306 Fair enough.
Thank you for the reassurance or my decision decision-making.
I hope you've been enjoying some binge watching :D
I took my kayak out once and there was a tropical storm down in Florida heading my way but not there yet. On the trip up the river, the weather was great however, the last half mile of the downriver trip, where I had to paddle in the lake, the wind picked up and was blowing against me. It took me an hour and a half and people in boats kept pulling up to tell me how much it must suck to paddle in the wind. I would have and have done what you did and waited it out.
Love ya girl.
I keep voting for you Lisa... but looks like the competition is stiff, out there ! Hope you win.
I have a very cheap Costco drone that a friend gave me but I never use it because it drifts too much 😂😂
I would place my GoPro on a dam or fallen tree and then paddle back to retrieve it. I do hope to purchase one of those “follow me” drones down the road, I think that would be cool.
well respect..... I think you are much braver than I would be in that same situation ❤💜💖
Aw thanks, I was pretty nervous but content with whatever could happen so maybe that counts as being brave?
@@Keepinitwheel306 yeah I think so good attitude though 🙂
Rich content video, good story line, beautiful area. Neat kayak cover project. Pro move to take under-bridge shelter. Thanks for sharing this adventure.
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🤗
Makes me want to get out in nature! I need to come visit up there next summer when it’s too hot in the south. Keep the videos going
Yeah do it!! We’ve had some hot days here too but I’m grateful to have the lake to escape to when they hit
I think first I would have panicked haha and then I would’ve called someone, just because I know I can’t wait for too long in un uncomfortable position for my back
I was certainly feeling uncomfortable after being in that kayak for 4+ hours!
I would have waited it out under the bridge like you did.
I don’t think I’ve come across a stealth camping, under a bridge, on a kayak, in a thunderstorm UA-cam video yet? But I’m not saying I would make one! It takes me all day just to figure out how to strap the trolley wheels to the kayak!
I try to be original ;)
Oof I hear you about the kayak trolley! It’s taken 3 years to be efficient at it.
you are awesome!
Came over from Van life. ❤❤❤❤
Giving you a big welcome!!
Use a beach ball in your kayak to help with water from pooling up on your cover
Oh, that's a great idea. I wish I had thought of it. I ended up using a old tent pole that bent perfectly.
Again amazing vid! 👍
Do u record vids by urself? Vids r so interesting, nature shots beautiful and ur strength is amazing!
Yep! All solo. I have to backtrack and get my camera for some of the paddling shots but I think the effort is worth it so viewers get a good understanding of the scenery 🤗
@@Keepinitwheel306 👏🏼💪🏼
I hope that I would have been smart/patient enough to wait it out under the bridge 😁 👏❤🎉
It was nerve wracking but considering the alternatives it seemed like the best course of action. One commenter suggested I carry a book for times like this and that would’ve helped a lot.
Hey i am a wheelchair user and i am really aspired after watching your video good work well done
Right on! Hopefully you get a chance to watch some of my older videos as well
@@Keepinitwheel306 I will watch definitely
I think waiting it out is a good option, perhaps have someone on standby might be beneficial…but I get the independence thing! 😊…
You don’t know how many times I almost dialed my friend…but then didn’t want to seem dramatic. If the storm was more violent I would’ve followed through for sure lol
yup..under the bridge...lucky it was there
You are one helluva cinematographer.
