This story is truly heartbreaking yet inspiring. Margaret's strength to break free from a toxic family dynamic is admirable. Sometimes, walking away is the only way to find peace. @@mnghuebner6800 yeah, but you also said it makes it so phony, which is why I mentioned it happening irl and gave an example instead of debating it's legality/criminality
Houses get sold with forged documents all the time silly. In fact it is one of the largest growing crimes in the US. The ONLY thing unrealistic about this story is the buyer being a friend of the owner. No in real life the buyer would have been a stranger and all the people involved would have needed to go to court to determine the TRUE owner of the property. I wish I was as naive as you though.
If it was easy it would be, however it isn't easy, and there's still cases of it happening, like fr, there's plenty of scams (which are also illegal) that are extremely stupid, but people still fall for them, there's also people who rent out spaces they don't own to scam people, here's a lil example though "In The News - Homeowner Discover Their Home Was Sold Without Their..." It's a youtube video from 2023, and there's news articles about it, and it's literally about a couple from Toronto who had their house sold fraudulently by someone impersonating them while they were on a trip
What happens when/if they die and aren't here to enable & baby Dianna?.. how were they expecting her to survive without their enabling?..they weren't helping her.. they crippled her. She's an adult that can't fend for herself... they failed her... parents are supposed to teach their kids how to stand on their own two feet, take accountability for their actions and realize the world doesn't owe them anything.. once they're gone she will be up crap creek without a paddle.. the sad thing is dianna didn't realize what her parents has done to her. She enjoyed taking advantage of them, she didn't have to work hard or put in any effort.. she will never be a productive adult member of society.. she's been conditioned to believe others are here to clean up after her and it's perfectly ok to take full advantage of people..I think mom ran cause she was embarrassed.. not gonna lie, I probably would've bought her some groceries and left them at their door.. it made me feel bad mom was buying expired food.
That wasn't the issue. The issue was dina kept getting more and more debt. So the parents took money out of their saving, out of their retirement, and finally sold their house to pay the sister's debt. filing for bankruptcy wouldn't do much for debt that wasn't theirs. Also, you can only file bankruptcy once every 7 or so years. Plus some of that debt was probably from their lawyers and court costs from the trial which you can't get out of through bankruptcy.

You can NOT sell a house that belongs to someone else...period
Sadly there are a number of people who have managed to sell houses that don't belong to them.
Also parents who use their kids social security number and ruin them@nathandc
Legally no, you can't, however people break the law

Fiction written by someone who's never bought or sold real estate, which is why she doesn't know about title search and disclosure.
You say fiction, but there's plenty of times it's been done irl, hell there's even places that give rights to squatters who steal someone else's home
Also, look up what happened in Toronto in 2023, a couple had their house sold without their consent and knowledge
It's a good story but I think it's fake.
No s//t!
Most of these stories are based on embelished or fake reddit posts. It's best to think of them as cautionary tales.
This is definitely written like short fiction more than a person recounting facts.
Does it matter if it's fake? What's wrong with that?
Well I would think so; in what universe can you sell a house that doesn't even belong to you?
If the parents wanted to help their daughter, they should have sold their own home, not stolen someone else's property!
