Even on a month-to-month she has to give 30 days. Thirdly, she can't raise the rent like that. In a month-to-month, she still has to give 30 days notice of a rent increase and, depending on the laws there, she can't triple it. Op should have threatened mom with the law to get her 30 days and then take whatever she bought herself, or let mom know that she can keep it (in writing) after paying op the purchase price or in lieu of rent for the 30 days.

A verbal contract is still legal if it's clearly a meeting of the minds, which is proven by op paying rent and mom accepting it. With nothing in writing to show that it was a higher rent and the daughter needing to pay it, mom has nothing.
She should literally take everything she purchased for that apartment with her when she moves since her mom didn't pay for the renovations. I think that would be great payback for her mom's behavior.
Not your property, it always belonged to your mother. this is why you need a written lease agreement, don't ever make renovations without an agreement in place or at least a long term lease. and you have to fix any holes or damage you make removing your stuff. But most cities you need to give at least 30 days notice, not one week.
I would have suggested bro and sis move back with parents since you’d upgraded the apt and they could get so much for it. Especially since they got all the labour and paint for free, so you really did help family!
