Hello, please answer me. I had a small hamster, it was about 13 to 15 months old. Three days ago, I noticed that he could not open his eyes and there was a secretion around his eyelids. I washed it with tea and he was able to open it. But when I put him in the cage, he would sleep and his eyes would be the same as before, and I had to wash him again. I think he could not open his mouth because he was not able to eat or pick up anything like walnuts or pistachios. A smelly secretion was also collected from the genital area and I cleaned it as well I checked with the vet and sent his picture, he gave me two drops, one antibiotic and the other sedative to reduce itching and redness. I used one day And unfortunately my little hamster died last night and I am very sad I just want to know what was the cause of his death? Please tell me your opinion When he died, I checked his teeth, I think the two lower teeth were raised, but they were not sunken or injured anywhere in the mouth. I had good nutrition and I followed hygiene very much Pistachios, walnuts, almonds, fruit, lettuce and bread were his main food. It also had calcium stones to chew on. What was the cause of death of my little hamster?
Aww, sorry! 😢 I researched about it a bit, and it seems like it could have been an infection from a dirty cage with bedding that held bacteria in it. It could've got into his eyes, mouth, and other areas and infected it. I'm not for sure, though. Maybe you should check with a vet again and ask them? Also, if you get another hamster, maybe freeze the bedding overnight before you replace cage/clean his cage. It helps kill bacteria in the bedding.
@TuxTheHammy Thank you for your answer, actually i really dont know what happend ! My hamster was 13/15month years old He was old? I heard sometims in this age , they expire with no reason! Just because they are old Is it true? And just another qustion Please say your opinion about it. My hamster weight was 100 g. Do you think that if the dr gave him oral antibiotics or serum , he woul be fine ? Or woul i miss him anyway? In fact my question is that the infection in hamsters can be treated?

Hey there. Sorry about your hamster, but I heard that almonds are bad for hamsters. So maybe that caused his death?
