- In the Oaxaca, Mexico pueblo of Teotitlan del Valle, the Cruz family is using all natural materials and fibers to dye and weave beautiful rugs mexicodave.com/best-places-oa.... In this video we learn how these master weavers are using indigo, pomegranate, cactus fungus, pecan shells, lichen, and other ingredients to dye wool fibers from sheep, llama, and other animals and turn them into amazing textiles. My maternal grandmother was Zapoteca from Oaxaca and I am so happy that the ancient dyes and weaving process is being preserved. The colors are unique and the rugs they weave are beautiful. It's a lot of work and a slow process which is a testament to the Zapotecs strong work ethic and patience. I am very proud of the Zapotec people!! They also make incredible pottery. I hope to visit Oaxaca one day. Their food is world renown.
