Oh, reverse cheek cuts at 4:00 - slick! Great project, it really shows off that careful selection and quality craftsmanship can make the cheapest materials look amazing.
Hey Jay, if Frank Howarth is the champion of stop-motion woodworking videos, you are the Epic Master of sound effects and fast-motion!! Keep it up, we love it!!
I love how you maintain your straight man (comedic term, not orientation) persona and let the little laughs just float in from the side to make the videos so enjoyable!
I really enjoyed that video. You are a great influence to the woodworking community. Thank you for the great projects you show us. My wife comes into the shop the other day as I squeezed the last clamp and asked what I was doing "I'm waiting for the glue to dry before the next step." She got this blank look, crossed her arms, leaned back and pretended to eat an apple, blankly staring at my project.
Your dimensional lumber work is the bit I find most interesting - especially now when wood is becoming so expensive. Thanks for these Jay really appreciate your time on these.
Seriously, you are providing a great service. The Dimensional Lumber projects are excellent. I have been pointing every new woodworker I know towards them. I have been saying these are great for new woodworkers looking for inexpensive ways to get started. I now take that back. I think these are good for any level of WW who just want to build great projects.
I really like that you flipped the tapers to give the base a more prominent look. Nice touch. Grain is really amazing! I love the idea of leveraging the dimensional lumber to get 2 quarter sawn pieces. Awesome video as usual! Thanks for sharing!
Jay, your work is just getting better and better. these last two projects have turned out really beautiful, and this one is even better than the last-which I didn't think was possible. it's really inspiring to watch.
Wow! Fine furniture from construction grade lumber. I wouldn't have believed it. And very interesting to see you chiseling and card scraping, not to mention using no metal hinges or fasteners. Your woodworking is moving in an interesting direction while at the same time adding high quality power tools to the mix. Really nice!
One of your best looking pieces of furniture! Also I appreciate the way you are handling sponsorship, there's nothing wrong with making money and you are doing a good job not making your videos into 8 minute long commercials with non stop product plugs.
+Jay Bates I agree this looks amazing - idk how you got that lid to fit so exact, but it is amazing. - you'll have to do an update to let us know how it works out. Also just out of curiosity - how heavy is that chest?
You certainly have a knack for taking big box SPF and turning it into something special. Even with all the wasted cuts, the money saved must be considerable, and the end product looks great. I recently built a loft bed and used alot of your concepts from the bunk beds you made awhile back. Thanks!
Beautiful project Jay. The grain really shows nicely after it was waxed. Very envious of your woodworking talent. Great video work too. Good watching. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Dave 😊
+Left Flamingo and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding...
Jay, your build videos are always excellent. Somehow you seem to make each one better. I don't know how you do it.... Great job!!! That turned out really nice. Douglas
Jay it's great to see how your skill set has improved over time and how your furniture is also improving, even in the room where you have placed this piece there is a clear development path visible from one piece to the next. Nice work.
I like how you do the sponsor part of the video. It's a lot more interesting than just a monologue. It's relevant to what you work on and I ended up watching the entire bit.
That jointer is freaking sweet. I think it was this video series in particular that got me motivated to start on my chest of drawers and dresser. Both are made from blue stain beetle kill pine. Many hours in the garage the last few weekends. :-) Thanks for the great and down to earth videos Jay!
This video does a great job of showing how useful the modified Paulk workbench is. As the others said - great project, cool jointer, Amos awesome editing.
Your woodworking is moving in an amazing direction . A really wonderous piece, I have watched all of the builds for this room of yours thank you for sharing real good video work well done...
Very nice Jay! Great addition to that room. And you are the editing master, the two Jays with you staring down the other while sanding was funny, but the triple Jay during the ad was great!
There is so much I like about this video. First... Great project. Looks like that domino is coming in handy. I also like that you used dimensional lumber. I know some people have become "wood snobs" and think pine is not worthy of such a nice project. And the video editing... Love it! I especially like the three Jays doing the promo for Leesa. And... The Jay sanding watching the Jay finishing. That room is coming together nicely and all with dimensional lumber. All great projects. And as always... Enjoy your videos. I'm sure I've said it before... But you were my FIRST woodworking youtuber. You have come a long way but I like that you haven't really changed. Still love your projects... Videos and humor.
Great use out of the material you've got. Wonderfully machined. Methodically, thus thoughtful and accurate - (nice to see you using that dado blade two passes in the forward direction and the last cut backwards leaving the best possible shoulder. Awesome editing, I really like it! Playful, yet very clear for the viewer. Thumbs up!
That looks amazing Jay. I don't usually like pine (because of the knots), but your thorough selection and effort working around it has paid off. That is one smart looking chest. Your shop is pretty awesome now (Paulk bench + mitre station + accessible jointer + planer) - very nice.
hey Jay I'm a big fan of your videos and have been for several years. I just stumbled onto this video and I am very impressed as to how far you have come. I too enjoy building ( when I have the opportunity to do so) and I very much want to do as you did here and build my projects without metal fasteners. I despise pocket holes and visible screws!!! I know they all have there place. I look forward to your future projects. Keep up the good work.
Love the cheap lumber and the way you basically make it all quartersawn by getting rid of the defects. Great work. You are definitely making me yearn for a domino; that thing saves time and the floating tenons are practically as strong as regular tenons; nice trade off in time to money saving ratio. The angled legs are sweet BTW. Love your channel, Jay! Oh and nice new jointer; saw that you snuk that in here. Maybe it was around earlier but it's the first I noticed it.
Great build +Jay Bates! I usually dislike the look of pine furniture, but you make it look beautiful. The design looks a little Wood Whisperer-esque too. Good stuff :)
Nice grain. Kudos on how you selected and arranged that. The lid, oh man, the lid... seriously look at that huge expanse of straight grain! And also, kudos^2 on the editing. Love the "repetition" segment, love the "majestic drums" at the final photo bit, love how you reveal the writing as you feed the piece through the tablesaw.
Dude, that is awesome! Your videos are always entertaining, and it's so great to see that you are continuing to advance your skills and challenge yourself with tougher project. I can tell how much time went into the design and build, and it really shows in the final product. You need to trademark or patent the quarter-sawn pine look, perfection!
Jay, great video and cool project... For a second I thought you had the corners upside down, but then looking at it closer, I noticed that it was on purpose, and that looks cool. Thanks for all your videos, time and effort. I always look forward to your videos.
Beautiful build my friend. I do know one thing, if I were ever at your house during a tornado, Id head to the bunk bed room and pull all that furniture close to me. Id feel safe. Everything so solid and well built.
Please let me thank you for the incredible job you do editing the vídeo, the multiple Jay's, the sound effects and the text over the pieces are fantastic. And of course the project is terrific too!!!!! You're really putting a huge effort on this. Thanks again!!!! "Uno mas", hahahaha. Cheers!!!!
Jay you're surely a great woodworker! Love to see you building that! I would like to be as good as you are! The guestroom really has style! Good taste.
Oh, reverse cheek cuts at 4:00 - slick! Great project, it really shows off that careful selection and quality craftsmanship can make the cheapest materials look amazing.
+John Heisz Thanks as always dude.
I saw that too! Great way to avoid tear out.

+walt lovett hahahahahahhahaahahaha.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I think: "Please video, don't be over yet!" Your work is simply amazing!
+Marius Hornberger Stop watching videos! I want part 3 of your dust collector :)
Thanks Marius. The feeling is mutual..... and I agree with Simon. Patiently waiting for the next dust collector installment :)
Jay Bates Simon Bennett Then I should rather not tell you, that it won't be released this weekend... :(
+Marius Hornberger I couldn't agree more!
No metal fasteners. Very nice. And the detached lid makes it easier to move.
+Matthias Wandel Thank you Matthias.
+Matthias Wandel Case in point for your theory about there being two types of woodworkers; those who use pocket screws, and those with jointers.
Jay Bates ... single handedly supporting the biscuit industry of America! LOL Nice project.
Not only is the build impressive. The editing, effects and humor in this video is outstanding. Keep up the good work.
Love the way Mr. Jay Bates makes his videos. So really professional.A Master woodworker.
Your dimensional lumber work is the bit I find most interesting - especially now when wood is becoming so expensive. Thanks for these Jay really appreciate your time on these.
Those leg tapers really make it look bold. Excellent work man!
+Avinash Arora Thank you Avinish.
Jay! Awesome job! This one is the best! Wood grain, finish, final video edit. All top notch! Love it. Don't forget to breathe.
+Joshua Luther Breathing is very important :)
Who would ever want to go out and build anything when you can just sit back and watch videos like this? Great Video!
Excellent.
Your little trick - climb cutting the last cut on the tenons to eliminate tearout, didn't go unnoticed.
Frank
I feel like the more you work on that room the better your craftsmanship gets. awesome job

+Kelly Burns Thank you very much Kelly. Very much appreciated.
Really nice project Jay, design and wood selection look great
I really like that you flipped the tapers to give the base a more prominent look. Nice touch. Grain is really amazing! I love the idea of leveraging the dimensional lumber to get 2 quarter sawn pieces. Awesome video as usual! Thanks for sharing!
Holy Crap...Jay with a chisel, handsaw and a card scraper? Your ever expanding abilities are be-dazzling! Nicely done, brother.
Forgot to add....that bedroom with the bunk and trunk looks marvelous. Good job!
Jay, your work is just getting better and better. these last two projects have turned out really beautiful, and this one is even better than the last-which I didn't think was possible. it's really inspiring to watch.
+ThoperSought Thank you very much for the feedback. Much appreciated.

You make big box store lumber look good, Jay. It's a real game changer having a jointer too. The quality of work improves dramatically.
Great series Jay. That suite should last several lifetimes!
One of your best looking pieces of furniture! Also I appreciate the way you are handling sponsorship, there's nothing wrong with making money and you are doing a good job not making your videos into 8 minute long commercials with non stop product plugs.
+kenneth schapira Thank you very much for the feedback Kenneth. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know.
Wow, that turned out wonderful Jay. Great editing as always.
Love it! It looks great...Can't even tell anymore it was dimensional lumber, and the rub on finish, perfect choice!
+Tomy Hovington Thanks Tomy.
Nice grain! That came out great! Looks like that lid has a perfect fit!
+Make Something Thanks dude. I was shocked at how well the lid system worked out.
+Jay Bates I agree this looks amazing - idk how you got that lid to fit so exact, but it is amazing. - you'll have to do an update to let us know how it works out. Also just out of curiosity - how heavy is that chest?
+Robert Tucker Not as heavy as it seems. Its pine so it can be moved by one person easily.
That's cool
Absolutely AMAZING--I couldn't build something nice in 10 years
You certainly have a knack for taking big box SPF and turning it into something special. Even with all the wasted cuts, the money saved must be considerable, and the end product looks great. I recently built a loft bed and used alot of your concepts from the bunk beds you made awhile back. Thanks!

Jay, Your skill set has been growing with every video. This is a great example of your skills. Great job!
Cool! It's amazing how much of a difference the time spent on choosing, cutting, jointing and sanding makes on the finished item.
+Left Flamingo and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding... and sanding...
Not a single nail or screw! Perfect work, very clever, as always. Love it!
As always workmanship shines through every time. Really nice job.
I have to say, that is a spectacular piece of furniture from dimensional lumber. Excellent job with a great design.

HAMMER TIME!!! Somebody give this man an award already! The vids are good on so many levels! Keep it up Jay!
Excellent work. I like how you got the grain to match on the panels it looks like one peace of wood.
Jay, your build videos are always excellent. Somehow you seem to make each one better. I don't know how you do it.... Great job!!! That turned out really nice. Douglas
Looks great. It's got a craftsman feel with the tapered legs. Very nice!

This is probably my favourite bit of furniture you have made!!! Love the lack of metal work. Looks lovely man!!
+Tom Meaney Thanks Tom. It's my favorite piece so far. My largest all wood piece as well. (I think)
You really put an other dimension to it all with your film making skills! Super enjoyable! Good one!

As with all of your videos, they are informative and entertaining. LOVE THEM!
Jay, I have to say that the chest ended up looking super nice and I really like the indexed top as well. As per usual, good job.
