- Val de la Clarée is one of the last quiet corners of the French Alps, but it could have been very different. In the 1970's a proposed highway and tunnel threatened to open the valley up to development, but the local farmers and residents protested. Mark Abma, Leo Ahrens, Tony Lamiche and Timothée Theaux visit this quiet valley to live of the grid in a restored chalet for a week of skiing under their own power.

You use high-tech skiing equipment and clothing, you have two homes, you use the same electricity as anyone else and right when this quote occurs you're shown drinking champagne. Excuse me, but how exactly does that contribute to protecting nature?
Mate, did they say they were fully fledged hippies who don't effect nature negatively in any way, shape or form? How long is a piece of string......
In my experience Champagne in France isn't that expensive so them drinking it is the same as them enjoying a nice bottle of wine. You would also be rather stupid not to take advantage of the advancements in ski equipment and clothing considering how far we have come.
Fay H is right. If there are some guests coming to a French house, they get high quality drinks and meals. You dont know, if they are using high tech equipment. The two homes are selfmade. i dont know from wich country and wich century you are, when youre saying, that electricity isnt something for poor or natural living citizens (french is located in europe, not in africa).
