I like the length of this video Dave, also love the bush tucker bits. Good tip about those vines containing water. It's nice being able to follow along from the comfort of our couch, knowing we'll never do anything like that! We much prefer well marked tracks!
Awesome 'mahi', that means 'work' in te reo maori 👏👏 I did the ruapane track a few weeks ago because my hubby is from pirongia, I must admit it wasn't easy but I did it. Your energy is amazing, keep up the good work. (Following)
Fun in reflection 🤔 Here’s the thing Zeb. There’s not many more years left in me to be able to physically do extreme adventures, so I’d rather spend what precious time I have left exploring for my joy (camera comes along) rather than using it up creating lazy camp overs for views, money or strangers entertainment hence why i acknowledge the pace and mahi you exerted in your last adventure, qudos 👍 Thanks for your support during 2021 and I hope you achieve in 2022 whatever it is you’re chasing.
The more of your videos I watch, the more pop up in my feed. I'm just watching them as they appear, not in the order you posted them. I've been meaning to ask you.... what is that device you wear on your wrist? It looks very useful. Great video again. That's way more KLM's than I can do in a day that's for sure.
That’s good to hear. That was a big day, especially with the elevation and mud, I do want to go back, a bit more prepared and have another look around that secret track. My watch is a Garmin Fenix 6 (did an unboxing video on it) thanks for watching my back catalogue 👋
I carry enough water to get to next water source. When I discovered the secret track, I abandoned my original route but could see potential refill spots on topo. But given remaining daylight hours on a difficult to follow track I made the decision to rehydrate via foraging and press on to get out rather than using time to search for running water. It’s these situations that I love about the bush.
We're planning to do the hihikiwi track soon, I can't wait. I've noted that we must take lots of water, I'm not looking forward to carrying it but we should manage. Trying to remember the plants you ate to hydrate yourself will be a challenge for a city slicker like me, so I'll stick with the water 😇
Hihikiwi summit is a lovely spot, will you stay a night at hut, it’s not far from there? Supplejack shoots, snap them off like asparagus and eat the ends, try it and let me know your thoughts?
Not on Pirongia or the Kaimai’s but as seen in “Pirongia's Secret Waterfall” - ua-cam.com/video/srapusg9q0k/v-deo.html there was lots of pig rutting on Bells Track.
The track you mean? Funny how the abandonment track sign says closed so DOC can spend more on other tracks and someone scratched “What about Bell Track” 🤣
Just found your channel, but loving the content. I've stayed in Pahautea hut a couple of times and it's pretty gnarly up there. Seriously good effort!
Welcome onboard Dougie, mate if you think that’s tough, check out my video, PIRONGIA’S Secret
Great Video Dave. Pretty stunning area. Thanks for taking us on your adventures.
Thanks team Baker. You have yourself a very Merry Christmas 🎄

Terrific view from the top Dave. Happy Christmas to you and Mrs Dave .:)
Thanks Chris, perhaps a kiwi behind a camera might like to hike there for a sunset photo?
Merry Christmas to you & yours too 🎄
Thanks for the content Dave!

Hey bud thanks for the video! Did you see any deer or goats up there?
None at all, I’ve only ever seen a boar and that was years ago.
mean !!! chur
There you go, a new (old) route documented. Be sure to watch My Kaimai DC3 crash site videos if you want to see more new discoveries
Hi Dave, thanks for this video. I learnt about more bush tucker. Do you carry water or did you just run out on this trip?

Hi dave,, goo vlogging
Thanks for watching and feedback, what’s the back story behind your name?
What a mess- enjoy

@@OutdoorsmanDave yes the track- about the same here in Virginia- mud and muck everywhere
Thanks for watching from Virginia, I feel privileged 😇
