I like vignettes for traditional style portraits, softening a hard physical frame, drawing into the subject, or same for single building photos, loads more, but if its just for enjoyment it's whatever you like. Just a shame we didn't see you getting some big air at your favourite skate park! Some wonderful photos as usual...
Haha Colin, the first (and last) time I even stood on a skateboard gave me very sore knees and elbows from the micro-seconds of air that I took before an embarrassing landing! Always good to get comments from you 👏🏻
Excellent and thought provoking video. I'd never heard of pixel vignetting, I'd also like a definitive answer regarding the "E" mount throat size. I rate Russian lenses highly, in fact, I prefer my Helios 44-2, over my Biotar. Thanks for the lovely images.
Thank you Clare, I just found the issue slightly puzzling - hence the video! Pixel vignetting is (I think) taking the issue to microscopic levels, certainly at a level where the manufacturers have to compensate in one way or another; something that in practical terms end-users shouldn't worry about.
Very interesting “technical” (with some history) video, I do add (as you mentioned) “some” vignetting to “some” of my images. I always enjoy your detail shots, you really have an eye (or two) for it. As you were talking at the end of the video I was looking at the puddle of water behind you and asking myself “is he going to take the shot?”, you did, very nice one @15:23. Is that statue of the pistol advertising for Glock, it sure looks like one. Be well, stay safe, and again, enjoy your day.

I'm always amazed at your ability to be at locations with nobody else around. Your photographyt is definitely not "shite" Alan! (That rather stinky word is pronounced quite differently over here.) I'm not too clear on the context of using "dead good" to describe photography so I'll defer to the more learned (dead good?) folks here to comment on that. I'm a huge college basketball fan (University of Kentucky Wildcats) and quite familiar with bank shots, rim shots, dunks, backboard shots, etc., but I don't quite understand your basketball analogy regarding vignetting. Such a deep discussion about vignetting is way below my pay grade, I found it a tad boring but your excellent method of discussion kept me watching. And yes, I use a small amount of vignetting in hopes of drawing the viewer in, but it's usually barely noticeable. 💜😎💜
Hello Alan, I have to say this particular video was a little too cerebral for me, I was glad you had that colourful beatles background, I did find my eyes wandering around the scene as you explained the types of vignette, personally I'm thinking its the different characteristics of the vintage lens that add the interest, vignette! to be or not to be? the question doesn't bother me. 😃 Enjoyed your photos, there were some really nice images.
