- Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #606
Date of adventure: 2/6-2/7/22
Travelers on the Old Spanish Trail had to walk from watering hole to watering hole in order to cross the desert alive...and some of these springs were pretty far apart! I decided to see what it would be like to travel on foot from one spring to the next...so I camped out at Stump Spring, NV, then got up and walked 24 miles to the next water source, which was Resting Springs, CA!
What an epic adventure -- there is so much history (and so much weird stuff) on this lonely desert highway!

One of the things I love about your channel is the effort you make to not only show us these cool, weird and beautiful places but also to let us know the history of things. Thoughts and opinions on subjects all while trying your best to make a aesthetically please video to watch. You walked 23 miles just to do it and still made the efforts to get cool shots. Set up tripods even for a 4 second shot. Edit them for hours and all while keeping a positive mindset even when the going gets tough. Thank you for all your efforts!
The only person I know who can TALK continuously for 24 miles 😂
Lol..she's a delight!!.. love you WH!
I have to admire you for walking 24 miles to make one single video I know you do this for an income but even though you are very special to put all your effort in making videos you are a very special woman
As an old trucker we would use it to bypass the truck scales if our loads were to heavy. N Joy little one
This has to be one of your best videos. It has it all: A plot, drama, dialog, and a happy ending. What more could you ask for!
This should be Wonder Hussys freedom walk for history! I really appreciate you doing this Sarah
You are always Awesome ❤️😎🤠
She did really good she must be hard as a rock I was giving some advice on what could happen if no one was around and I apologize for getting off topic I care about people and if I can give a simple helpful word to think about things can go wrong no harm in taking extra caution
Alotta snattle rakes out there
You earn my respect. You are an incredibly hard worker! Great video again.
I really admire your strength and stamina to do a 24 mime hike in one day.
I am a bike rider and 24 miles is a pretty good bike run.
Good job.
Get off the bike Ted! AND walk!
Yes, those pioneers were tough but you're pretty tough yourself. Twenty-four miles on a self supported walk with only apples, jerkies and two liters of water! Great story telling video. ❤
Sarah; another great video... 20 years ago I was with a group who mapped the old Morman wagon road from Emigrant Pass to Resting Springs... In some places the trail was so plain that a blind man with a stick could follow it. You can see metal scoring from the wheels on the rocks. I found broken bottle glass with the date of 1858 in the bottom. The water at Resting Springs is excellent and the spring produces about million gallons per day ! So this place was a good place to stop.....plenty of water and grass for the stock.... even found an old survey bench marker dated 1914! we only mapped the 6 miles, but it took us all day ! Thanks for the 'memories'
My daughters and I loved this video. I don’t have to imagine what driving that route in the school bus every day is like. I will just ask the driver. She’s my aunt!
That was really inspiring. You are one conditioned trekker and trail blazer.
Great video! I love your history lessons, these are always the best!
We really enjoyed this one a lot Sarah. We’ve been watching a few other UA-camrs lately, and it has made us realize how hard you work on your videos. They’re amazing! Thank you so much!
It takes ( on average ) several hours of editing , etc.... Just to put together 20min. Of video .... Is what most content creators say anyway...
@@ultimatehomestead1466 Days for some of us 😉
You also have to factor in getting there, making films, getting back, and then I have to edit and upload, it's a love affair for sure ...
The effort she puts out to entertain us is selfless
Money money money. Lol
Sara is very well compensated by UA-cam for her work. Why do you think she doesn’t have to hold a 9 to 5 job, yet has time to travel the country?
@@dta97392
Like every good attorney says, “Follow the money!”
Yes this is how Sara supports her self but “money , money, money “ and “Follow the money” What brought to that conclusion? Her Million Dollar compound in the desert Her $85,000 SUV or her Luxury Spa Vacations ?
@@dta97392 So you work for free? Don't knock it when someone finds something they like doing and end up being able to live from the proceeds.
I live vicariously through you because of health problems. I love your adventures so much. ❤️
Wow, wonderhussy Thursday. Thanks SJ
Hellava a video!....🏆kudos for the fortitude. Really amazing on a variety of facets/and levels. A big Wow out to you. Enjoyed the historic background narrative as well as the today...what it is now. Great work...and workout! Truly a long haul walking anywhere that measured distance, but in the style you were saddled down and in desert terrain, and with all your basic supplies needed,ie. water, energy-whatevers, camera, drone, etc. truly remarkable trek you videoed and shared. Amazing! Truly enjoyed the video and work you clearly put in to make it so. 👍🏆🥇.
A well planned endeavor. Determination, endurance and gusto topped off with a touch of nuts. Yippie another wonderhussy victory!
Another awesome, enjoyable video!!!! Someone not watching your videos has no idea what they are missing out on, too bad for them. Enjoy the road and stay safe.
Good stuff Sara. I was just thru here last Sunday, saw you filming on top of Emigrant Pass..stopped where you were parked to check out the sign, few min later realized it was your rig lol. Should've went up and said hi, hopefully catch you some other time ! You Rock
Well done Wonderhussy. Enjoyed this journey with you. Excellent cinematography. Thanks fur the history and scenic landscapes. Stay well.
Your a hardy soul to make that trek Sarah, very commendable.
Actually Sarah , this is one of the most interesting video's I have watched . Lots of history made into a good story line . So I wonder how many extra miles , from walking forward ,setting up camera, walking back getting camera walking forward and so on ........
Yeah I second this. I really enjoyed this video. More please.
Respect Sarah. You are quite the hiker/adventurer. Great video. Love all of your vids. 👍🏼😎
Sarah Jane you’re an amazing woman I hope that you continue to have your great attitude for life and adventure and always be able to keep doing what you’re doing and giving us enjoyable videos to watch like I’ve said before this old retired guy loves watch these videos and watching you you’re a hell of a woman you would’ve made it back in the pioneer days and if I were an old timer back in those days I would’ve been proud to have you as my wife you’re not a quitter your a pioneer 👍👨🏻🦳👍
That was awesome, Wonderhussey.
I can imagine the Mormon parents having to listen to "are we there yet" from the kids. Amazing effort on your part that highlights just how tough it was for everyone.
One of the best ones yet. I'll never complain about 8 miles again
. Robin in Pahrump. Thank you for your wonderful videos.
AM talk radios the best. The nicest people listen to talk radio.
Driving on a moon lit night out there with the lights off was a trip I'll never forget👍
I thought at first you had a cameraperson, wow - great production values for a solo long distance hike! Thx so much for all of your creativity and passion, it shows!
Holy Moley Canolly Cow!!! Love your show. 24 miles is almost like
a 22 mile walk from San Pedro to Catalina Island. "You GO, Girl" :)
Excellent Documentary, Sarah!!! Very informative! You have my respect, 24 Miles in a day is nothing to sneeze at!!! THANK YOU!!!
Thank you Sarah, wow 24 miles, I thought my 2.5 miles at the junk yard looking for car parts was a lot.
You are amazing what you do Sarah walking these distances.
Great episode! Thank you for all the interesting info.
Great, been waiting all night for this to pop up. Awesome vid WH.😎🇺🇸
Sarah,....YOU ARE MY HERO !! Your quest for adventure, technical expertise, photographic talents, and needless to say BEAUTY have kept me interested and following you for a few years !!Thanks for providing me with another adventure. 😍😍🥰🥰
Wow girl! Major props to you for hiking this trail. I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
As a Mojave explorer and someone who enjoys American history myself, I really enjoyed this video. That was a long hike, and I truly appreciate all the work you did to make this video. After you rest and your body recovers...I will be looking forward to more desert history hikes.
Great job!
I’m with you hussy about those balloons.
I spend a lot of time in the back country and the most common trash I find is those freaking balloons 😡😡😡
Yep, that'll be balloonfest'86, Clevelands' finest.
Your videos are a lot more fun than watching the back and forth "we gotcha now news" and then there's the "oh, on the contrary, we got you news, partner"
Wonderhussy, you deserve many x times the subs and views you currently get. Keep up the great work, kid!
I enjoyed this Hussy thank you , your pictures on my wall
I think hiking on asphalt is much tougher on the feet than on dirt.
Not really! It's psychologically boring looking at roadway vs desert crevices. Still it is easier to not have rock and stone foot resistance during a hike waste in energy (I feel when I walk in desert areas with pavements also nearby to parallel hike with).
Thank you from Australia....I've learnt so much about America from your vids....
One of your best young lady!!!.... Damn 24 mile hike is not some simple undertaking!!!...congrats
Sarah you are one tough cookie! Really nice video!❤✌
I love your choice in ball caps. When I was a kid those stations were everywhere. My mom would sing the advertisement song every time we passed one. Awsome. Your videos really make me miss southern Nevada. I moved back to SE Wyoming last September.
You're awesome Sarah. This was amazing. And your health is great, keep up the good work of taking care of yourself
Great stuff! Imagine the bus driver? Imagine the kid doing it twice a day AND living there!
Aaaah the wonder of it all. Wonder…. She walks the talk! What a gal!
You said it!!..those people were tough!!
It was iron men in wooden ships,..now its wooden men in iron ships....
Excellent adventure! Your hiking stamina is proven again (I was impressed when you hiked Mt Whitney in one day... It took me one and a half days). Well done!
I just checked out Mt Whitney. Looks like something I would do. Limiting the number of hikers per day sounds nice, but the government red tape dissuades me.
This was on of the coolest videos I've watched. Love the history you presented. Good job Glad you had a safe journey.
Looks nice out there.
But Sara, releasing balloons is so romantic....cheeses me off too. You are quite the hiker!
i'm already hallucinating. the dirt looks like tasty fruity pebbles cereal.
I LIKE THE OLS SPANISH TRAIL
Wow girl. Good luck to you and stay safe !
Nice job. You're a modern-day pioneer.
Great job loved your hike, thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for another great video. I love history and you always do home work researching the information. I am glad I discovered your channel. PS your Donner video is one of my favorites.
Very, VERY cool! 24 miles! In the desert! By yourself! 8 miles and I’m almost crippled! (You are in great shape, just like the old Spanish and Native American travelers.)
Nice job pilgrim
Thanks Wonderhussy. I was in Death Valley 2days ago, spent two nights in beautiful Pahrump and drove to Vegas on highway 160 this morning. I must have driven very near the Old Spanish Trail, but did not see this video until I arrived in Vegas. I did go to Ash Meadows based upon watching one of your videos and was amazed by the amount and clarity of the water coming from the ground. I saw some of the famous pupfish and visited Jack Longstreet's cabin as well. All based upon your videos. Thanks so much. I would never have known about any of this stuff without you. Also stayed in the Mizpah hotel in Tonopah on the way down from Sparks. My wife and I are going to the Old Mormon fort in Vegas, Hoover Dam and other historic and natural sights around Vegas. I will only go to the strip one time to sightsee. Five nights in Vegas is too much for me. Living in Sparks near Reno, I can gamble and lose my money anytime.
Iam squeezing myself just ‘watching ‘ !!!🤣⚡️🎭🌾✨🎈
Brings back memories of my "hikes" in the Army - good and not so good...
You deserve one of those Japanese titles of respect, a Living National Treasure. 😊
Hi WH. Love this one! And a big shout out to your sis who looks after our beloved WH! Hope you had a good warm meal after your shower and hit the sack! AWESOME J
You make some of the best naritives on UA-cam. Good information and easy to understand.
Thank you for showing a lot of people the problem with those silver balloons that people like but don't know the downside of them.🎈🗑👍👏
Thank you so much for all the joy you bring to us !!!
i fell in love with the nevada high desert about ten years ago... your videos are well-shot and make me yearn to go back
As usual, another great adventure!
Damn history lesson with you teacher! Lol
Thank you 🙏 such a delight listening to you beautiful sister
In 1990 I had been hired to build 3 mega houses on the Island of Hawaii. I had five guys going with me. One day before we left, (my friend & I drove my truck out into the desert trails) at was then the end of Tropicana Blvd at Rainbow Blvd. While slowly going through some rough areas, we came across one of those markers for the "Old Spanish Trail". We finally came out on 160 by Blue Diamond.
Thanks for the memories. I had just brought a new F150 2WD and was so worried about screwing it up, but we couldn't resist once we started.
My favorite history teacher!
Good Show, you go girl 👍
You make the world a better place
24 miles is a long hike in a day, I am wondering how you felt the next day. Those people put us to shame, but their life span probably wasn't very long. Good video, I really enjoy your videos.
Yes and no. People still lived to their 80s and 90s even past 100 years back then if they had generally good genetics and could avoid deadly hazards, but infectious disease, genetic issues, child birth, infant mortality, plus conditions like diabetes or even high blood pressure which can be treated nowadays to extend life spans all brought the average mortality rate down for many. One thing about the 19th century that wasn't a thing was obesity. Life was too rigorous and carbs, processed sugar not being as cheap and available like today.
I walked 6 miles one day and I had some foot pains and leg muscle pains.
Ya bet you didnt find a lot of 54 year olds foot trailing back in the day..
@@b-radumuck7903 it might surprise you. James Reed of the Donner party was in his middle 40s and George Donner himself was 60 years old. Just to name a couple. Caleb Greenwood an old mountaineer was still exploring the California frontier in his 80s.
@@tballstaedt7807 well they are all dead ..lol just kidding.. when i watch Ritchie from Boston.. his you tube channel (jailbreak overland)
I say to my self if i saw this in my younger days id be off like a shot to see it myself.. lol then i rebember that man is my age.. and im inspired to change my life.. i allways wanted to die in natureand never be found.. be left where i lay.. not scraped up stuck in a hole
Great video. You have my respect. Yes, the people that came before us were incredibly tough.
Miss wonderhussy you have "True Grit" . 💘
Sarah you don’t need makeup 💄 you are gorgeous ❤️❤️😍😍
Wonderhussy.,im an old wore out lobsterfisherman from maine. And i deeply love you forever and ever!
Great accomplishment. Long ways for one day. You are the best. So entertaining. Love it.
Could not imagine without water WOW thanks
Your sister must really ❤️ you. Thank you for the history lesson
If UA-cam asks me to rate this video I'm giving it a 5 out of 5. Exceptional. Videos like this are what makes UA-cam so good.
When hiking wear nylon socks they keep your feet from rubbing causing blisters . A drill SGT taught us that to stop getting blisters . We use too carry 65 pound packs and full battle rattle in Army days ha ha ha . Be safe in your many travels .
As a Boy Scout I hiked 50 miles - in three days - on the Old Spanish Trail. Day 2 was a 25 stretch. While Jeff was off in the bushes - Jon peed in his canteen. We all had a good laugh when Jeff had his next drink - and wanted to fight. That night Jon threw an unopened can of chili into the fire - and it exploded spraying chili everywhere. Just realized - it was 50 years ago on spring break March, 1971.
I feel my skin drying out just watching this video
Run Wonderhussy, RUN !!!
The setting up & breaking down would drive me fuc*en crazy !!! 🤪😜
Why some tv network executive hasn’t discovered you and hired you for hundreds of thousands a year to do a show. Is a mystery to me!, What an amazing talent!, Wow. 👍👍🙂
Great video good job thank you
So maybe it should be called, "Old Indian Trail"? I love maps, exploring, and history! This was a fun episode! Thanks Wonder Hussy!
Speaking of finding your soul, I guess someone really liked the Slayer Tour! 19:00
You are one fit little lady - not many folks would do this walk just to do it.
Sarah -- you are AWESOME!!!
